October 7, 2024 - Aaron Tam

Ta#68 HP-SIS checks performed at B1 lab, moved to anteroom, and inserted into SHC via tool port w/ Aaron Schmidt.

Ta#68 fixed to source tray with 4 mounting bolts in order of: Right manip. holding, Top left, Right manip. removed, Bottom right, Top right, bottom left. w/ Aaron Schmidt and Brady Borrmann

  • Motion was smooth, no resistance when positioning onto pins

VCR fittings done up with ample force, leak check passed

Conductor bolts installed in order of: 2 Target electrode conductors (Checked washers), 3 target Inner and outer conductors.

All bolts checked for full contact with mirror and binos.

Electrical check failed: Dead short (look for David's ELOG for more detail when available)

Troubleshooting while David is checking resistance: w/ Ferran

  • Intermittent success with heavy manipulation of water lines
    • Loosening off Waterline bracket-to-source-tray
    • Loosening off Bracket to water line bolts 5/32 hex's
    • Rotating bracket towards operator (effectively raising waterlines in the back upwards) seems to yield more intermittent success, but never passing megger @ 250V
    • Tube was inadvertently dented when handling the tube in a wrenching motion with manip tong. counterclockwise
  • Target removed while David is still on the multimeter (calling for any sign of success)
    • Starting to remove Target in order of: Tightening back waterline-to-bracket 5/32 hex screws, loosening off waterline bracket, loosening off VCR nuts, 2 Target electrode conductor bolts, 3 Target inner and outer conductor bolts, Fixing bolts Top left (dropped below source tray), Bottom right...
      • (At this time David called with some success with electrical check)
    • Reversing course to verify fault has passed, target was reassembled, only finger loose on the VCR nuts.
    • Faults no longer present
    • Target removed
      •  As target was being pulled off source tray locating pins, a piece of ceramic fell onto the source tray just behind window waterlines.

Target taken out of Hotcell by Ferran. New VCR gaskets installed. Target reinserted

Target installed no issues. Used fixing bolt used to replace dropped one.

Leak check passed, Electrical check passed

  • Notably don't have a photo of reinstalled target or source tray before 2nd install attempt.

Containment cover reinstalled

Ceramic piece moved into Pail #285 (suspect this is a very hot piece)

ABCD was dead shorted to 60kv bias during the first time measurement after target installation. Target was removed and reinstalled again with new VCR seals by Ferran.  during target removal process, short disappeared when Aaron remove bolts on CD tube heaters terminal.  leak check and electrical check result are good after second time target installation.

 Post Irradiation Examination

October 9, 2024 - Aaron Tam w/ Chad Fisher, Aurelia Laxdal, and Lucas Backes

PIE conducted by Chad with direction from Aurelia. Aaron and Lucas observing/documenting

Goal: Thin foil target material is somewhat novel, and we should characterize the differences if there are any.

Photos of the pre-examined target can be seen on ELOG 2697  on Tuesday October 1, 2024, when the target was removed from TM2

Notes:

  • Right most inner/outer target conductor bolts was sitting proud and had threads showing, photo attached
  • Some Black deposit was found on the inside of the heatshield directly below the extraction tube, and loose in powder form inside the heatshield.
  • Target tube seems to have more of a crystalline texture than previous examinations.
  • When Target tube was being removed, one of the target electrode conductors broke off
  • some dimple texture was found on the target tube windows and this was further explored by prying a channel through the length of one side of the tube to get a better look

Target pieces were placed loosely back within the heatshield, and the lid loosely placed back on.

October 9, 2024 - Aaron Tam

Goal: Training (First PIE by Aaron), Characterize any anomalies

Notes:

  • Overall the target looks exceedingly clean with only some discolouration on the copper behind the target tube, and multipin cable insulation.
Target loosely reassembled

UCx#46 Target handover from TPO

Target insertion: successful

Parasitic Install: All Parasitic targets left off target

  • Left side In-beam array type parasitic install attempt #1
    • Parasitic assembly is too thin/studs too tall for the socket nut to fasten onto target. Stud protrudes through the length of socket section, not allowing tool to insert
    • previously a 3/4 spacer was used to give space for thermal couple to enter
    • Install of 3/4 spacer was difficult because it does not hold its shape when handled (pivots around 1/2 ad 1/4 portions)
    • With spacer installed, parasitic assembly is too thick for socket nuts to fasten onto studs.
      • It may have been possible to back out studs to use, but left off in the interest of time UCx is exposed.
  • Right side In-beam window type parasitic install
    • Similarly to Left side, studs were too short for install, studs could be backed out, but was left off in the interest of time UCx exposed
  • PEEK seal parasitic targets were left off as per schedule, and will be leak checked at another date (after tong cable has been repaired)
    • Order of PEEK seal locations preserved and follows order as seen with target installed (Photo attached)

Target install: successful

Leak Check: Successful

Electrical Check: Successful

  • Initially failed due to wiring diagram being different between production wiring diagram and electrical test sheet

Containment box panel closed

Following ID: 2716
"Nov. 8, 2024 - Aaron Tam
Tong cable snapped when attempting to remove multipin connector bracket"

Repair went as follows:

  • weighted clip attached to tong return side to tension/keep tapes on pulleys
  • Manipulator was pinned from both sides (Pinning from master side first makes it easier to position slave side)
  • clamps were used to suspend all tapes and cables near the relay bracket
  • extension tube limit clamps were moved to the top to stop it from dropping when Z motion tapes disconnected
  • Z motion tapes/tension adjusting screws taken off master carriage and suspended with equalizing weight ~10+ lbs)
  • Extension tube limit clamps and extension tube lowered give space to expose multiplier later
  • Wrist joint and handle removed as a unit
  • extension tube to multiplier screws taken out
  • Extension tube raised to expose multiplier - using extension tube to wrist joint positioning clamp to keep it in place
  • Old cable removed
  • new cable installed

installation in reverse with spare master handle

Notes:

Spare master wrist joint was missing gears that connect wrist drums

  • this had to be disassembled and installed with gears from old wrist joint

Handle ratcheting pawl spring was not oriented properly, so this had to be disassembled and reinstalled properly (in the process one spring was lost Part#: A-5800)
