chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | TM1 | TaC#1 | TaC#1 Removal and inspection |
November 15, 2011 removed TaC#1 from TM1 and inspected TM1 for any obivous signs of trouble (Problems with EE at end of run).
Upon starting removal of the high current conductor fastener on A+ (Left oven leg) it became clear right away that the oven of the target was broken as the leg moved as soon as the fasten was loosened.
Inspection of TM1 with the target removed yeilded no obvious signs of trouble, save a piece of capton tape found on the sliding tray directly below the service tray.

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | TM1 | UC#3 | UC#3 Removal |
UC#3 was removed from TM1 this morning. Upon removing the oven heater bolts BOTH legs fell demonstrating that both sides of the oven tube have broken off from the central block.
Target was put into a can under argon for disposal after the module is removed from the cell.
The source tray looked to be in very good, clean condition.

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | TM1 | UCx#3 | UCx#3 Autopsy |
An autopsy was performed on UCx#3 yesterday afternoon. This autopsy followed the plan written by Anders. Indeed, both sides of the target oven had seperated from the central block.Pictures were taken by Anders and Pierre.
After the disection the target was placed back in a can under argon. Any small piece were placed in a zip lock bag and also put in the can under argon. |

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | TM1 | Nb#6 | Target inserted into south hot cell |
Nb#6 has been inserted into the south hot cell in preparation for ionstallation onto TM1. During the pre-insertion inspection I noticed that I could see the foil installed into the ionizer tube and that in did not seem to be seated or concentric to the tube itself. I had Anders and Friedhelm check this and they deemed that it was ok. |

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | TM4 | SiC#26 | SiC#26 removal TM4 degredation |
SiC#26 was removed from target module #4 this morning. Target shows the now standard arc marks on the 9 pin connector housing...pictures to follow.
Of greater concern is the amount of "plating out" or "arc" marks on both the insulators and connductor of the TM4 source tray. I will again warn that the source trays historically have a life expectancy, and that TM4 continues to show visual signs that the current source tray is rapidly approaching the end of its useful life!
I understand that one of this years goals is to retrofit TM3; however I fear TM4(and possibly TM1) may fail before this can be released. With the current absence of backup source trays and modules I fear we leave the ISAC program in a very vulnerable position.

Nb#6 was removed from TM1...it looked very clean.
Ta#38 was installed onto TM1...fit well.
Isaac Earle did this change with supervision in an effort to cross train.
TM1 containment box was checked for damage from the "bump" it got during yesterday's move. There was new scratches on the shutter side panel. Picture to follow.
The front containment box panel was "difficult" to remove...it required a good pull to get off.

Started refurb of TM3.
Planned activities:
Inspection
Water line blank off
Started 1:00pm
- Video inspection before containment box removed - noticed discoloration on top right (if looking from h/c window) 4" insulator
- Containment box cover removed
- Containment box removed
As I am much older, wiser and handsomer then last time I removed this style of box, I realised there was a better, safer procedure for the removal...I will be updating the doc. accordingly.
End 2:25 pm

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Repair | TM3 | N/A | TM3 Refurb. Work |
On Friday, June 22 the following work was carried out.
- Further inspection of the source tray.
- Testing of existing tray removal and installation tool...it works fine, there was just a specific method for proper coupling to the target module. There was no documentation for this tool, so it took a little bit of insight with the drawings and a little trial and error. A document should be written for this tool so its proper use is documented...I will do this.
- Blank-offs installed on heat shield water lines.
- New gaskets installed on window water lines.
- Containment box re-installed.

Entered south hot cell Wednesday and replaced the pre-filter air filter as well as the front two light bulbs. Also removed two bags of compressible garbage, one bag of metal, and of course the bagged air filter (as Joe M. expressed as interest in havung it).
Inital checks found approximately 4000 cpm on the cell side of the temporary Al. panel used during the cell entry, 2000 cpm on the tacky mats layed out beside the work area but nothing on the floor under the plastic that had been layed down for the job.
