Measurements are in agreement

Cooling TGHT at 2A/min, TBHT at 1A/min. Current pressure 3.7e-7 Torr.

TGHT at 500A, 8.4V, temp at 1600 C (4.2 kW)

TGHT at 475/7.84V, temp at 1550 C (3.72 kW - Max operating target heating power)

TGHT at 450/7.31V, temp at 1500 C (3.28 kW)

With TBHT set for 230A, usual operation setting, the temperature on the transfer tube is to exceed 2000 C.  Keeping TBHT at that setting may affect the overall temperature.

Note:  To condition the nanoSiC, it is better to keep TBHT at 0A and ramp up TGHT to 475A while monitoring the vacuum.  Then step up TBHT; any increase in vacuum would indicate a local evaporation of nanoSiC close to the ionizer. 

Temp measurement is complete, cooling down TGHT/TBHT to zero.

Temp was measured at 1400C - light coating on window likely affected the measurements.

Measured with one-color pyrometer on Ta body inside the target container = 1550 C (with the correction of 250C for Ta). 

Adjusted OMEGA slope to 1.18, temp currently at 1580 C.

20 mins ago... initiate auto ramping at 0.2A to reach TGHT 250A.  Instead of ramping incrementally, TGHT jumped straight to 250A; vacuum shot up to milli torr.

Turn off TGHT immediately to let vacuum stable down to 10-6 Torr. 

System problem??  Archive striptool for more details. 

Re-activate auto-ramping - OK!

Once TGHT reached 250A (18 hours later from now), will continue ramping up to reach 1600C

Temperature measurements of the ionizer will be done by Fernando for ARIEL development.

Ta foil covering side holes on heat shield so no temp measurements can be done using OMEGA on side ports of evaporator as per request of Fernando

HS water valves opened, no leaks detected.

IGP1 = 2.3e-6 Torr

IGP2 = 1.7e-6 Torr

Tapped up to TGHT = 50A, 0.30V; TBHT = 50A, 0.59V

Each endcap is wrapped in a separate piece of graphite foil and placed in a target boat.

There are also 4 coated springs, 2 on each side of the stack of endcaps.

The boat is wrapped with 3-layers of Ta heatshields.

Chamber pumped down overnight.

OMEGA slope = 0.98

Turns out the vacuum limits have not been fully updated when they should have been and the old ones still apply.

IGP1 reached 8e-5 Torr which tripped off the system.

TGHT = 80A, 1.05V when the system tripped.

Once max setpoints achieved, will tap up manually to final desired temperature of 2000C

Uranium targets go to a max temperature of 1950C online, so graphite insert should be tested to 2000C
