The target was taken out from the evaporator and inspected. 

Some "burnt" marks on the ionization legs can be observed and also the centre support leg is bent.  (see photos#1)

Not sure if the centre leg came in bent after machining or it happened during the carbonization process??  Do not have photos of the container before the process to compare.  

A few things to note…  During the process, the power supply did tripped off twice due to the cooling water valve shut off. (see photo#2).  An assumption is that sudden cool down of the hot target might have caused the quenching effect. 

No other visible damage.  

End caps are inserted and ready for assembly.

Note that a refurbished backing pump was installed before starting this process.  It could be a leak somewhere; will let vacuum group to inspect this.

Vacuum group took a look at the pump.  It was the bleeding valve that was not properly close while the pump was installed.  So after some period of running, the valve got loosen from the pump's vibration and caused the leak. 

The pump is now back to operational. 

Chamber is being pumped again.  Once the vacuum is good, TGHT will be stepped up to 50A and autoramping will be initiated once it's ready.

Target container previously sintered with TaC in Evap#2 - Target current at 440A, temp measured at 1900C.  A few tests on the temp measured were done (see Evap#2 elog #251 & 252). 
Note:  This is the new design container with a small back block.

Container is loaded with 245 discs of UC2; measured disc length 7.5 cm

A regular TaC coated endcap is inserted left, wrt the ionizer tube pointing down, so the right is open - discs are held on with Ta wire spring.

3 layers of Ta-heat shield is used. 

Target heater will be ramped up to 440A (according to the achieved temperature from Evap#2). 

Ramping rate at 0.1A/min.

Monitor closely on the vacuum around 400A to see if the carbonization process is complete.

A bunch of end caps (12?) and a long Ta-wire in spring sharp  were coated with TaC coating and wrapped in a small sheet of graphite foil. 

Container is then wrapped with a sheet of Ta heat shield.

These caps and wires will be sintered in Evap 1, so they may be prompted to contamination from the uranium processes. 

I have no choice but to use Evap1 to do this work since we are falling behind with the schedule.  

In the future, please have all the materials (targets, end caps, binder, etc) well prepared. 

I do not know what is the required current to sinter the caps since there is no temp measurement.  So, the best is to go with how the container was sintered, 580A.

A loaded graphite cartridge was set in a tantalum boated and wrapped with 3 tantalum sheets (Friday May 29, 2020)

The set up was installed in the EVAP1 then IEVAP:IGP1 was replaced (elogs 260 and 261).  

Vacuum was turned on after Ion Gauge swap.

IGP1 = 3.6 e-5 Torr

Good vacuum = 5e-2 Torr

Bad vacuum = 5e-1 Torr

Current ramp is 1A per 10s from 0A to 120A

After about 20 minutes at 120 A, TGHT tripped again exactly as before.

Will restart ramp at 1A per 10s from 0A to 120A .  Will set good vacuum to 1e-2 Torr

IGP1= 4.3e-05 Torr

ramp up was good.  TGHT at 550 A since 12:30 pm.  TGHT did not trip. *note adjusted good vacuum.  Ramping takes a little longer but doesn't trigger TGHT shutdown.

Target #34 was installed in the EVAP1 and pumped down (Tuesday June 29, 2021).

Target #34 is going to be conditioned on a Ta boat wrapped with 3 Ta foils.

IGP1 = 1.85e-6 Torr

Good vacuum = 1e-1 Torr

Bad vacuum = 5e-1 Torr

Power desired 1.6kW. This is the second target conditioned this way. 

Subsequent targets should be conditioned following thermal reduction.

Cannot transfer into glovebox yet because moisture is a bit high after regeneration.  Moisture is dropping. Will wait until moisture is sufficiently low.

Removed 10 discs for analysis but might place them back inside depending on final decision.  We had previously removed 10 discs after thermal reduction.
