Tuesday, February 23, 2021, 22:17: All afternoon and evening running my code to get systematic measurements. They are still going but in summary:

For TGHT=580 A and TBHT=290 A, the temperature estimation is 1740 C, which is extremely cold for a FEBIAD. This explains why with this assembly I need to go around 310 to get something reasonable.

Tuesday, February 23, 2021, 22:52: Between 100 and 200 V the current always increases with coil current  > 50 A. The maximum increase factor is around 4. As the voltage increases the current stops increases at coil >50A.

Wednesday, February 24, 2021, 12:10: Auto-ramping TBHT to 310 A @ 2 A/min. This current should be around 1800-1850 C.

Wednesday, February 24, 2021, 15:0: Temperature estimation says 1700 C, I wonder if the temperature is colde because of the high power target.

Wednesday, February 24, 2021, 15:02 : Argon signal is quite noticeable as roughing the gas lines drop the current down to 0 .

Wednesday, February 24, 2021, 18:55: Emittance scans have failed for both argon and m/q=28. It might be related to the very low intensity of the beam. FC0 reads ~10 nA at TBHT=310.

Thursday, February 25, 2021, 09:46:  BIAS/EZL/EE @ 30/13/1.5 kV, anode bias @ 175 V.

Thursday, February 25, 2021, 14:04: Efficiency is decreasing as TBHT current increases. This seems to be correlated to the apparent reduction in estimated temperature coming from the anode current readback.

This could indicate that the increase in TBHT current heats up the TGHT-TBHT system but given this is a HP target, maybe the heat is dissipated through the target.

On previous tests both at the isac test stand and the evaporator 2, I have seen the effect of tght current in cathode temperature.

I will lower the TGHT current and I will keep increasing the TBHT current to see what happens.

Friday, February 26, 2021, 17:20: All day running efficiency measurements as a function cathode input current.

With the colder target I estimated a maximum cathode temperature of 1820 coming from TBHT current=330 A.

Despite this being an estimated temperature from the anode drain current, the fact that the maximum total source beam current is only some tens of  nA, indicate very few electrons.

I finally managed tom take emittance measurements, so far the  parameters on the emittance rig page were not compatible with the tune I am using.

Friday, August 02, 2024, 15:37   sparking occurring at 4-5min intervals. set anode to 120V, coil to 40A. finding Ar peak via scan.   Argon operated at 0.5 bar.

Friday, August 02, 2024, 15:57   Ar peak located at 95.5332A. on magnet. tested gas on / off to confirm - current at FC6 = 1.37 nA

Friday, August 02, 2024, 16:02  ran febiad coil/anode scan.

Friday, August 02, 2024, 16:33  data at test number = 7462 can be further visualized using the shared jupyter notebook code.  data taken at anode voltage 260V was disrupted due to a spark derailing a number of optics elements in the beamline. they were soon corrected, but this data was missed.

Friday, August 02, 2024, 16:34   -   mass scan with  180V 70A      (Argon ON) ---- doesn't seem to be recording background noise well. ie the common background recording artifact is present. records constant numbers instead of numbers in range (1e-13,5e-12). often appears in mass scan image at slants

Friday, August 02, 2024, 17:07    -   mass scan rerun after switching off argon and pumping down the lines. however, only run from mass 49 down, as the signal above was completely blank

Friday, August 02, 2024, 17:25  ramping down bias ee and ezl

Friday, September 23, 2011, 16:3: The connection on the 9-pin connector for FEBIAD targets showed burn marks from the previous FEBIAD tests. Corresponding mark was found on the connector on the target side. Because of this the upper and lower 9-pin connectors were swapped to have a clean connector for the next FEBIAD target.

  • While testing SiC#26 a leak was discovered on the water line to the heat shield. The leak was in the right joint (see attachment). The heat shield water lines were removed from the test stand and repaired in the Machine Shop.
  • Kapton was added to the FEBIAD coil line to prevent it from shorting to the target heater line (see attachment).
