The emergency close mechanism for the Storage Vault door was tested by Adam Newsome and Travis Cave. The door was opened to its fully open limit, then closed with the emergency system.

The test was successful.

Entry  Thursday, August 06, 2020, 14:33, Adam Newsome, Spent Target Vault, Development, , , Safety Group Relay Interface Installation IMG_20200806_091438.jpg

A relay contact-based interface module was installed in between Safety Group's storage vault door enable junction box and Remote Handling's control module for the vault door.

The purpose of this module, which contains a diode bridge and relay, is to isolate the safety system from the control module to prevent back-voltage on the safety system which can damage the PLC's power supply.

In the new configuration, rather than receiving a 24 VDC signal from the safety PLC, this signal activates the relay, whose normally closed contacts supply 24 VDC (from internal) to the safety relay inside the control module. Wiring was modified inside the control module to account for this change.

In investing how to achieve the same functionality as before this change, it was determined that the control module's electrical schematic was not correct and did not reflect the actual wiring. A new schematic was created for this based on the actual wiring, including new changes.

The system was tested by locking out the target hall, and verifying that:
- No failure occurred on the power supply for the safety PLC
- This new relay actuated when the target hall was locked out (i.e. received signal from PLC)
- This new relay correctly supplied 24 VDC to the safety relay within the control module, allowing for the Opto-22 control unit to output control signals to the motors

Note: currently the soft limit switches for the vault door close/open have been bypassed. This is not a safety issue; the door can still be fully opened and closed remotely (but the open override and close override buttons are rendered useless). The bypass will be rectified in the coming weeks and this e-log will be updated accordingly.

Edit (Aug. 13, 2020): the issue regarding the limit switches has been resolved. The entire system is functioning as it was prior to the safety interface installation.

Entry  Wednesday, August 11, 2021, 11:15, Adam Newsome, Spent Target Vault, Development, , , Mini-Storage: Cable track for e-chain installed PXL_20210811_165201449.jpg

A cable track was installed between the mini-storage vault and the silos, for the purpose of implementing a retractable cable chain (e-chain). This will allow for cables to be managed during door opening/closing, so that remote control operation of the door will be possible in the future. See Work Permit I2021-08-11-2 (Aug 11)

Holes were drilled into the motor mounting plate (IRH2089) to allow for mounting a limit switch on the plate. See Work Permit I2021-08-17-7 (Aug 17)

Preliminary testing was completed in which the e-chain was fixed to the door with a C-clamp. Local and remote functionality were checked, and limit switch functionality was verified. Everything is working as expected. A final test will be conducted once the e-chain is fixed to the door and cabling routed through it. See Work Permit I2021-08-19-1 (Aug 19)

The e-chain has not yet been fixed to the vault door - holes will be drilled in-situ after preliminary testing is complete to confirm positioning.

Edit [2021-09-23]: the installation is complete and has been tested.

Entry  Thursday, September 23, 2021, 19:04, Adam Newsome, Spent Target Vault, Development, , , Mini-Storage: Remote Capability

Remote capability was added for the mini-storage door control. The control signals originate from the Opto 22 Module box that is used for the SMP remote control (this is located just above the storage vault).
The controls signal assignment document has been updated and can be found in C:\PDM Vault\PDM_Vault\_models\isac\isac1\wpn-3919 - safe module parking\Electrical

In order to operate remotely:
- Plug the mini-storage control box power cable into a wall outlet (adjacent main storage vault, under stairs)
- Plug the motor output cable into the mini-storage door motor
- Unplug the local pendant from the box
- Plug the cable that comes from the remote module box into the connector that the pendant was plugged into (M12, 5 pole Murr connector)
- Using the remote control program from the ISAC RH control room, click on the Mini-Storage option and then click buttons for open and close to operate the door (note: it is important to verify both opening and closing functions work before attempting any remote operation).

Remote and local functionality have been tested and verified working.

It is recommended to mount the mini-storage control box in a convenient area near the mini-storage (possibly on the wall adjacent the main storage vault).

Please contact me if you have any further questions.
