  473   Thursday, September 26, 2013, 15:00 Bevan MossConditioning StationStandard OperationTM3NiO#2RGA not connecting

Following the helium pressure test Don attempted to connect to the RGA via the network. He was unable to do so. This scan was desired so a pre and post water scan could be compared to indicate if there was any leaking. It has been decided to carry on as the HV and HP tests are of greater importance. Don will continue to investigate the RGA. Travis inspected from the conditioning station roof and determined that the RGA is getting power.

Tested RF from RF driver into new IGLIS wires at ITE. Used 5V, 1MHz (2MHz setting because of internal halving issue).

As expected there was a very slight mismatch visible (original cable ~ 68 Ohms, new cable ~ 53 Ohms).

The matching resistor will be changed and it will be retested.

Pump down in the conditioning station started at ~2:40 for rough down. The turbo pumps were turned on at ~3:30 and at 3:52 the pressures were reading as follows:

IMG in the containment box 9.2 x 10^-5 T

IMG in the secondary 2.0 x 10^-3 T

ION in the service cap 4.6 x 10^-5 T

Note that the cross has been installed on the vacuum vessel which now includes a turbo pump and the IMG 100.

Leak check will occur tomorrow.

1307   Friday, August 05, 2016, 14:13 Isaac EarleNorth Hot-CellDevelopment  Preparations for NHC Ventilation Test

A hole was drilled in the NHC exhaust duct in the east end of the target hall above the hatch to the Ante Room.  This will be used for measuring NHC exhaust flow rate with a thermal anemometer.  The hole was tapped and plugged with an NPT tap.

Flow was measured in the existing hole in the SHC exhaust duct in approximately the same location.  Flow velocity was measured to be 1415 ft/min with the lid on the SHC.  Using duct ID 7.75", and assuming the average flow velocity is 90% of the flow at duct center, the flow rate was found to be 417cfm.  We will attempt to match this figure for the NHC when the ventilation tests are performed.  The tests have been scheduled for the maintenance day on Tuesday August 9th.

The anemometer probe and SHC test port plug were checked for contamination: none found.

Helium cylinder and  Argon cylinder are installed in both ITE/ITW faraday cages , regulator for outlet pressure are not set yet.

TO ITE :  Argon bottle size 14"L x 4"D with SV2 connected at pressure 900 Psi ( 70 bar )

               Helium bottle size 18"L x 7"D with SV1 connected at pressure 2000 Psi ( 130 bar )

TO ITW: Argon bottle size 15"L x 2"D with SV2 connected at pressure 1000 Psi ( 80 bar )

              Helium bottle size 18"L x 7"D with SV1 connected at pressure 2000 Psi ( 130 bar )

An Neon cylinder size 20"L x 6"D  at less than 100 psi ( <10 bar ) pressure stored in the cabinet of ITW cage without connection

two gas line connection pictures are attached here for reference.

Testing on TM3 without a source tray was completed on 13/05.2013. All items were tied to common and the water blocks were left open at the bottom of the module. They were left with the quick connections at the top. The vacuum was in the low 10^-6T range so this was deemed acceptable. The cooling lines withing the cage in the target hall were shorted so flow could continue. As you will see from the results a maximum of 44kV was achieved before a major spark turned the power supply off. I will be compiling all the the data so it can be compared. Also attached is the archiver data, strip tool data, and RGA data.

  507   Thursday, October 17, 2013, 17:16 Grant MinorITERepair  Pre-Separator-area (ITE Harp 9) Blocks Replaced

The pre-separator-area blocks were replaced today by Bevan and Travis, with Grant present for photos and observation.

Photos are attached of each block replacement.

Some difficulty was encountered in replacing the "Layer #3" blocks (photo 9 attached).  An interference occurred between the outside of the west "Layer #3" block and an aluminum channel directly beside the rubber pad that supports the block.  The block was initially resting on this channel but slipped off, breaking off some concrete at the edge.   See photo 12 attached and notice crumbled concrete inside this channel around the area where the interference occurred. Photo 14 shows the damaged block edge.

It should be noted that when these two blocks are resting flat, there should be a gap between them (i.e. they should NOT be touching as shown in photo 9).

Did the PIE on UCx#39-IGLIS on Thursday Nov. 2 2022, couple pictures uploaded to docushare. Did not remove the target, just the heat shield cover.

Final electrical check on the module showed a dead short from TGHT/TBHT to HV common, which we did not see online. Seems like it must have occurred after ramp down? It persisted on the target after we removed it from the module. We couldn't find any obvious contact points, because it seems it did not happen while current was running in the target. Possible locations are the bottom support leg for the TBHT and the top of the right side target leg, though it was difficult to confirm with the camera.

Otherwise the only thing to note was a blacker-than-usual spot on the inside of the Cu heat shield, downstream in the proton direction.
