Adam Newsome | South Hot-Cell | Development | | | Addition of lift table to E-stop circuit |
A modification was made to integrate the hot cell's lift table into the E-stop circuit. See work permit I2022-10-07-1
The E-stop mounted on the right side of the small enclosure adjacent to the operator station will now serve to stop the lift table's up and down motion, as well as the turntables up/down and CW/CCW motions. Functionality was checked by B. Webster (electrical services) and A. Newsome.
Note: it is recommended next time there is a hot cell entry to inspect whether or not the limit switch specified in the schematic is actually installed. The schematic should be updated to match the drawing.
Redlined electrical drawing photo attached to this e-log, and the paper drawing is left inside the lift table's control box. The schematic will be revised based on the redline updates, likes as part of work request #6342 (to integrate this drawing into the turntable controls drawing package). |

3 light bulbs replaced in the ISAC South Hot Cell - North West light, South west light, and South East light bulbs. Northeast light currently still working.
The South East light is not working after bulb replacement. This bulb was tested using the wires from the Northeast light station and the bulb is working properly. Electrical services is being contacted to troubleshoot the cable issues. |

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Maintenance | | | Manipulator tong cable and wrist replacement |
Broken tong cable on SW manipulator (serial #8106) of SHC was replaced today.
Following ISAC Hot Cell entry procedure, Document 157554, SHC was entered and wrist and tong cable were replaced with a pre-run/assembled wrist, cable and tong. It is standard to try and pre-make/load a new cable into a spare tong assembly to reduce time spent in the HC. This marks the first time a wrist has been replaced. Rationale for replacing the wrist at this time is that internal spacer A-14118 which the ting cable rides over has had grooves worn into it. This is a result of regular wear and tear but could be causing premature wear on the tong cable. Replacement is a preventative measure. This is the original wrist and spacer from the original install in 1998. The wrist that was removed will be rebuilt and swapped out with the original one on the SE manipulator (serial #7986) at a later date.
Parts replaced today are: New - Bottom half of wrist joint (CRL-13950), New - Tong cable (CRL-14230) and used tong assembly (CRL-18062)
Procedure took about 40 minutes. Dose received was ~0.046 uSv |

Carla Babcock | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | | Ta#66 | Ta#66 post irradiation inspection |
On Jan. 9 we did the PIE on Ta#66. Opened the heat shield and removed the EE. The inside of the heat shield was very black with lots of flakes falling off. The target itself looked overheated, and the container looked pretty bad for a Ta target. The outside of the EE looked perfect but after removing it there was a lot of black stuff on the side and we saw that the Re foil was curled up. Jens said during the runtime that he saw something that looked like a wire in the beam path, so maybe this was it. |

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Repair | TM4 | UCx#43 | Plating and coating from UCx#43 failure |
TM4 has seen significant coating of the main standoff insulators and various other components stemming from failure in UCx#43 target. See attached pictures showing coating on containment box, support frame, main standoff insulators, standoff insulators high voltage shield etc. Note tracking marks on main standoff insulators.
Wednesday, January 24, 2024, 12:54 Carla's edit:
Meggered all HV components relative to HV common and HV common relative to ground. Nothing out of the ordinary, HV common to gnd was 700MOhms at 1kV. Seems whatever got onto the insulators is non-conductive, or is not as bad as it seems. |

Carla Babcock | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | TM4 | UC43 | UCx#43 PIE |
UCx#43 PIE was done in the SHC. As expected based on electrical measurements, the target container was broken on the right side and came off easily. Despite all the black stuff seen on the containment box and source tray, the inside of the heat shield was very clean. Checked if the Re foil was curled in and didn't see anything. Looked fine other than the broken container. |
