Travis Cave | Spent Target Vault | Standard Operation | | UC#40 | Spent Target Move |
UC#40 was moved from the north hot cell to the spent target vault. It was placed in pail #278 put in spot 1B and was 15.6 mSv/hr when removed from the north hot cell.
Also Ta#62 in pail #256 was moved from spot 7B back to 7A where it was originally located. This pail in the future will have to be repacked due to the fact it lacks a reinforcing disc in the bottom of the pail.
attached is vault details. |

David Wang | ITW | Standard Operation | TM2 | | ITW/TM2 vacuum vessels leak check and TM2 internal cooling lines helium pressure test. |
ITW and TM2 primary and secondary vacuum vessel leak check is done. Leak detector is connected to ITW TP1. Base leak rate on leak detector is 0.0 x E-9 atm.cc/sec. See attachment for the result. No big issue. Two old leaks we found last year at location D and E disappeared in this check. We did Vacseal resin spray on them last year. It looks like the Vacseal spray works . From the result , I can see the o-ring between exit 1 module and T - flange is closing to the end of the life. There are two small leaks on this o-ring now at A and B location. We plan to change this o-ring next winter shut down. We do vacseal spray on them this year. The big O-ring between tank vessel and T -flange looks still ok. Two small leaks are found on location F and G on this O-ring. Not much we can do on them. The leak on location C and B were sprayed with resin yesterday after leak check. They are leak free after spray on check. I will double check them. Leak on location A will be resin sprayed after TM2 is removed and ITW is under vacuum. All TM2 internal water-cooling lines are helium pressurized (70 psi) for 5 minutes each. HS shows 2.5 X E-9atm.cc/sec leak rate. The rest lines are 0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec. |

Adam Newsome | Crane | Standard Operation | | | Crane powered off for holidays |
[edit 2023-01-03] The crane was powered back on this morning - there do not appear to be any faults and it seems that the crane was unaffected by the power outage.
The ISAC target hall overhead crane was powered off for the holidays. Note that this may result in the commonly observed PLC battery failure issue when the crane is powered back on in the new year. |

Adam Newsome | Spent Target Vault | Standard Operation | | | Pails measured, moved to mini-storage vault |
The following five pails were moved to the mini-storage vault today under work permit I2022-12-16-1:
- #239 (formerly vault location 7A): 1.38 mSv/h @ 1m
- #245 (formerly vault location 6B): 1.56 mSv/h @ 1m
- #264 (formerly vault location 6A): 748 uSv/h @ 1 m
- #267 (formerly vault location 1C): 708 uSv/h @ 1 m
- #268 (vault location 7C): 809 uSv/h @ 1 m
The mini-storage vault is now full and ready for transfer to F-308 flasks.
The following measurements were made on other pails:
- #211 (vault location 3C): 4.21 mSv @ 1 m
- #217 (vault location 3A): 1.05 mSv/h @ 1 m
- #246 (vault location 6C): 1.98 mSv/h @ 1m
- #274 (vault location 1A): 4.78 mSv/h @ 1 m
- #228 (vault location 1B): 3.86 mSv/h @ 1 m
- #256 (vault location formerly 7A, now 7B): 3.60 mSv/h @ 1 m
- #260 (vault location 5B): 1.46 mSv/h @ 1 m
The target index spreadsheet has been updated to reflect these changes. See attached PDF print. |

Carla Babcock | North Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | TM4 | C#4 | Post irradiation inspection C#4 |
Post irradiation inspection of C#4 which was running in TM4/ITE was conducted at the NHC on Nov. 22 2022.
The yields from this target had been dropping and its behaviour was erratic, with the voltages on the tube and target jumping all over the place sometimes. The ion current on the FCs followed the voltages. We took this to mean the target container was breaking down.
Upon inspection we found the container looked pretty damaged - highly crystallized and distorted. The container had gone banana-shaped, but not in the usual direction. It had curved in the direction of the ion source (see photos). The heat shield and other surrounding components were super clean, no deposits or marks at all. |

Carla Babcock | North Hot-Cell | Maintenance | TM4 | | Multipin connector alignment pin on TM4 module loose |
The pin on TM4 has become loose again, making it very difficult to remove the multipin connector with the last target, C#4. For the installation of the next target, UCx#41, we will drill out the hole on the target side bracket so that it doesn't contact the multipin pin. Will try to remove this pin by force in January, or if needed change out the whole multipin bracket. |
