Adam Newsome | Spent Target Vault | Standard Operation | | Ta#68 | Spent target move - Ta#68 in Pail 300 |
Ta#68 spent target was moved in Pail 300 to storage vault location 5A. The dose rate measured at the South Hot Cell was 429 mSv/h at 1m. The target index spreadsheet has been updated and the current vault configuration is attached to this e-log. At this time, the storage vault is getting quite full - it is planned to remove five pails in January 2025. |

A safety walkaround was completed for the ISAC Hot Cells and Target Hall Areas.
The resulting spreadsheet can be found on DocuShare as Document-242733.
Main deficiencies identified:
- Hot Cells:
- NHC right manipulator gripper stuck (known, repair planned)

Adam Newsome | Waste Package/Ship | Standard Operation | | | F-308 flask loading - six flasks loaded |
Today (2025-01-20), six flasks were loaded in preparation for shipment with the following targets: C#4, TiC#5, Ta#64,Ta#62, Nb#10, SiC#44
Some of the pails (256, 273, 279, 277) required replacement of the wire rope cable with new style, 30 ft length, as requested by CNL. A lifting label was also applied to these pails. Some of the pails (295, 298) already had the appropriate cable and lifter label.
At the time of writing this log:
- The second crimped lifting loop has not yet been applied to each pail.
- The locks have not yet been applied to the flasks.
The mini-storage vault is now EMPTY. The mini-storage vault has been swiped and checked for contamination.
The target index spreadsheet has been updated (attached). |

Adam Newsome | Pail Handling Tool | Standard Operation | | | Pail Handling Tool - Inspection |
The pail handling tool which is used to move 5 gallon pails around the target hall was inspected by A. Newsome. The main tool was checked, but not the spare as it is currently in a disassembled and unusable state. The tool appears to be in good, working condition. The following items were checked.
- Inspect structural integrity of long tube - check for bending, warpage, dents, cracks, rust/corrosion
- Inspect structural integrity of hook assembly - check for bending, warpage, dents, cracks, rust/corrosion
- Inspect fasteners - check all fasteners installed as per drawings, fasteners are tight
- Inspect crane interface assembly - check for damage and wear where the tool connects to the crane
- Check alignment - verify the tool connects to the crane and hangs vertically with no major misalignment (this step was not done - alignment is regularly checked during operations, and there was no concern as the tube was straight)
Note: these tools are being inspected monthly by D. Wang and F. Song.
Photos can be found in G:\remote handling\Facilities and Projects\ISAC\Pail Handling Tool\Inspections\June 2025
Note: the previous inspection mentioned that the load capacity and lifter tag for the tool were not present. These were installed on both the main and spare tool today. |

Adam Newsome | Pail Handling Tool | Standard Operation | | | Empty Pail Lifter - Inspection |
The empty pail lifter which is used to move empty 5 gallon pails around the target hall was inspected by A. Newsome. The tool appears to be in good, working condition. The following items were checked.
- Inspect structural integrity of assembly - check for bending, warpage, dents, cracks, rust/corrosion
- Inspect fasteners - check all fasteners installed as per drawings, fasteners are tight
- Inspect pail handling tool interface assembly - check for damage and wear where this lifter connects to the pail handling tool
This is the first time that this lifter was formally annually inspected as per below-the-hook lifting device requirements. Going forward, an inspection checklist will be placed in the target hall, and the inspection will take place each year. A lifter tag was mounted on the lifter. |

Aaron Tam | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | | Ta#68(Spare) | Ta#68(Spare) removed from TM4 and into Anteroom |
September 5, 2024 -AT
- Plastic and clean target tray added to SHC
- TM4 moved to SHC
- TM4 containment box cover removed
September 6, 2024 - AT
- Ta#68(Spare) removed from TM4 onto clean tray
- top left mounting bolt fell under source tray in containment box - unretrievable
- Ta#68(Spare) moved out of SHC via toolport door
- SHC lift table was lower than tool port tunnel by 2". Target-on-Tray slipped back onto lift table when trying to drag it up to the tool port. Target bounced out of one locating pin, but stayed within boundaries of the tray
- Water also leaked out from the VCR fitting and on to the SHC lift table, and toolport.
- Target-on-tray slid into a clean plastic bag, and then into a plastic box.
September 9, 2024 - AT
- Ta#68(Spare) taken out of plastic bag and water drained from waterlines
- Target was rotated in every direction several times until no more water poured out from the VCR joints
- Ta#68(Spare) put back in box without the bag (to promote evaporation)
