Hi all, The old ITE TP3 pump is moved out and the new pump is in postion .Since this time I used a new holding ring(1 piece) insead of old 2 pieces holding ring which are thicker than new ring, the old holding bolts are a little bit too long for the thread holes on the ITE exit 1. I have to find the right length bolts for this new holding ring. The pump is in position, and all connection are done except the holding bolts. I will put the new bolts on and tight them when I connect the TM4 in ITE next time. So, If I am not here at that time and you need to connect TM4 and start the pumps in ITE, please check all the bolts are tighted before you do anything.

Tuesday, December 03, 2013, 10:35, Travis Cave, ITW, Standard Operation, , , fields above and in the target station with blocks off
|
The blocks have been removed from the west target station. The fields at the top of the target pit at the railing at waist level is about 80uSv/hr, Turbo pumps are about 805uSv/hr, backing lines for the turbos about a 1mSv/hr and the average field in the area of work down in the pit is about 600 to 750uSv/hr. The proton beam went off at 10:45 on December 2nd, these measurements were done at 09:00 on December 3rd.
Another set of field measurement was done at the west target station. At the top of the west target station at the railing the field ranged from 50 to 70 uSv/hr. The turbo pumps had field of about 650uSv/hr, the area over the dump was about 750uSv/hr, the area over the HV cover and the south side was about 450uSv/hr. These measurements were done at 13:15 on December 3rd. |

|
The repair/cable replacement on the east manipulator is now complete.
Yesterday's initail cable replacement went very well however, due to a minor glich, we were unable to test the tong movement until I was out of the hot cell. Tong did not fully close and felt like there was a "hard stop" at a repeatable spot in the closing of the tong. Upon further investagation, I determined that the problem was definelty on the slave side.
I conducted a troublshooting exercise this morning to narrow down the problem. I quickly found that the new tong came from the manufacture with two incorrect fasteners (socket head cap screws) instead of set screws. As a result the tong was being kept from closing as the head of the socket head cap screws was interfering.
I replaced the SHCS was the set screws from the old tong. The tong now functions with full range of motion.
Jan. 15, 37 minutes in cell .26 mSv
Jan. 16, 16 minutes in cell (as I did some clean up of compressable waste) .05 mSv
Also, the inital repair utilized a prototype tool I designed (and with assistance from Maico, built). This tool made the repair much easier. I will be making small improvements to the design and issuing drawings to the vault and shop.

The Target Assembly was inspected with Chad, Jens Henning and Anders today.
- The Target Container was broken.
- Material was deposited on the Heat Shield around the Target Center Block
- Material was deposited on the IG-LIS source.
- Electrical checks to ground (HS)
- The Extraction Electrode passed the electrical check at 1000V
- The Exit Electrode (c) held only 40V at 22 kOhm
- The IG Electrode 1 (f) held 250V at 390 MOhm
- The IG Electrode 2 (g) held only 40V at 22 kOhm
- IG 1 and IG 2 both held 250V at 450 MOhm to Exit Electorde (c)
- No spark marks were observed on the 9-pin connector

prep'ed area for work:
- removed shield plug from window clamp area
- inspected clamp from tunnel side and from top of target station: video recorder was not working, will try again tomorrow.
- corrosion seen on beam pipe cradles, see photos. corrosion also seen on beampipe, clamp and vacuum tank. will try to vaccuum loose rust tomorrow.

|
Cleaned top of the ITE vacuum flange and top of window clamp. Attempted to clean the bellows/beam pipe through the wall, mostly dust and small particles. When cleaning bottom of the wall penetration we picked up a stone/fragment and the vacuum stopped. Appears to be a rock of some kind. 800cpm.

|
Continued with vacuuming inside wall penetration to remove debris. Changed filter bag in nilfisk vacuum, left old filter in place however vacuum continues to stall after >5min use. Vacuum gets quite warm before self shutting off. Debris seems to be falling back down on to joint if vacuum is turned off.
Took some screenshots of video showing removed debris and rust(?) on beam pipe. Video located on remote handling group folder.
Will attempt to remove clamp tomorrow.

Wednesday, March 19, 2014, 16:48, Keith C Ng, ITE, Repair, , , 2a3 window - beam tube removal 11x
|
Today:
1) Vaccumed top and around clamp. Disconnected clamp from flanges and removed from beam line. Currently bagged and stored in metal pail next to target pit area. Clamp is 500 µSv @ 1/2 m.
2) Removed 2A3 window from beam line. Pried apart joint from top of target station using pole tool. Window is 95 mSv o.c. 5000 µSv @ 1/2 m. Currently stored in a metal shield & covered with lead blanket infront of spent target vault.
3) Did preliminary clean of tank side flange with cotton glove. See videos in RH group folder. A mark still remains on flange.
4) Installed dust cover over tank flange.
5) Removed old leaking beam tube + support from wall penetration. Currently stored in 2A tunnel, both pieces are bagged. 500 µSv @1/2m, 12000 µSv o.c. Took 2 vials/samples of the deposits inside the plastic piping surrounding the beam tube supports. Material appears to be crystalline and moist.

Friday, March 21, 2014, 16:49, Keith C Ng, ITE, Repair, , , 2a3 window - tank flange inspection
|
Today:
1) Cleaned flange with methanol and cotton glove, appears to be clean.
2) Installed new beam tube and cradle into wall penetration, cradle was setup same as previous cradle (which is now removed). On advancing into position, the flange on the flexible bellows appears to get stuck on the spigot of the fixed tank flange. Removed and measured slot, is undersize (.373-.374), will re-machine slot for spigot.
3) On visual inspection, ITE tank flange appears to be warped in a location consistent with the clamping area of the window clamp. Further investigation is required.
