A new power supply was installed today by John Chow. Due to differences in pin configuration of the controls, a change to the cabling is required. Contacted controls (Julie) for support.

Ray from controls has updated EPICS and changed the cabling today. The power supply is operational.

NOTE: Current limit will need to be set in EPICS. Default value should be 0.1 mA for now.

Between feedthroughs F (magnet coil) and B (tube heater negative), I found a jumper with two resistors that has been burned up. I am not sure when this happened, but it would be good to review the overall setup of the service cap wiring in the new year.

The cable connected to feedthrough Q where the multipin sits also looks burned.

  844   Thursday, February 04, 2021, 18:48 Fernando Maldonado LP-SIS  44139-10 44378-2 Problems/SolutionsEnergy spread calibration with SIS

The system was vented to  make clearance on the waterlines as a very small continuous discharge was observed.

The inspection revealed some marks on the HS water line (sideview photo). From the the bottom and from real close (zoom and backview photo) the marks are quite noticeable with shinny copper in the middle and dark circles around.

The GND line is routed in such a way that sits on top of the ion gauge chamber (gnd-ig1) this could explain why the vacuum had small oscillation during the current limited events.

Moreover, the GND line has the steerer cables tied to it, this could explain why one of the steerers got affected after the sparks.

Also, the GND line is in contact with a dark grime that goes all the way into the first skimmer (gnd-quad). I think the grime observed inside the test stand might have become conductive, or if this is trace from a previous flashover, this  is good path to flash again.

The EE and the plasma electrode were removed and they show signs of buildup. Cleaned and reinstalled

Tuesday, February 09, 2021, 13:52: DI water flow returned.

Control room contacted. DI water loss due to a "seamless" pump change over for the DI water supply & mechanical services. The supply was transferred over to a new pump which overloaded and failed. They had to switch back over to the (old) pump. Mechanical services will still try to do the switch over again. Either tomorrow or the day after. Running the TS up to 580A until then is not recommended.  Control room to update tomorrow morning.

Fault# 13773: Cu-LCW south SA3-03 tripped on motor overload.

  851   Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 14:52 Fernando Maldonado      Problems/SolutionsLeak checking gas lines.

Vacuum side

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 13:42: The gas lines inside have been check. The inlet of the calibrated leak was not tighten properly and hence the large leak observed.  FIXED.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 13:42: The only leak remaining INSIDE the vacuum is the one on the FT side which for 200kPa is around 7e-6 atm cc /s. At this pressure, the undesired leak  is leak rate is around 1 %  of the one getting into the source.

Atmosphere side

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 14:49: Some minor leaks in connection points around  1e-6 atm cc/s. Not much I can do without changing all connection to glands with metal gaskets.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 14:50: SV5 was leak check on its own, the gas goes through quite noticeable, no need to sniff with leak detector. SV1 leak checked and it works.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 14:52: Valves swapped, labels changed.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 15:17: Roughing.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 15:53: Turbos on.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 15:59: IG1 on

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 16:29: IG1 @ 5.3e-5 and dropping. Already better than Friday/Saturday.

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 16:53: IG1 @ 2.9e-5 T.

Wednesday, February 17, 2021, 16:53: IG1 @ 1.5e-6 T.

Wednesday, February 17, 2021, 16:53:  The Neon bottle seems to be empty. The leak on the lines were not as bad to have this happened. I suspect when squeezing the bottle I rotated the gauge enough to cause a leak there.

Wednesday, February 17, 2021, 17:00: Using a full nitrogen bottle, I confirmed that rotating the two-stage regulator causes a leak.

Wednesday, February 17, 2021, 18:00: Things look OK now. Water open. No response on vacuum. Will put power.

Wednesday, February 17, 2021, 20:00: Some items were timed out. Tried to recycle the PLC now all the items are red. Check tomorrow

  853   Thursday, February 18, 2021, 11:03 Aaron Schmidt      Problems/SolutionsDI water pump configuration

https://elog.triumf.ca/TIS/Test-Stand/847

There was a previous DI CU-LCW  pump trip as per the above elog. The CU-LCW pump was configured this morning. The water pressure is set to 80 PSI as per the MCR. Any further can overload & trip the pump.

Thursday, February 18, 2021, 10:55: Current flow rates & pressure read at the TS

 Device Temp
[C]
 Flow
[lpm]
 HS + MSP 22.30 3.8
 TBHT 22.14

6.27

 COIL + EE 22.08 1.74
 TGHT 22.16 5.04

DI water pressure as per the gauge on the supply side of the FS#2-5 manifold @ 85 PSI.

Noticeable flow rate reduction based on previous target conditioning logs. Previous pressure was around 100 PSI.

  871   Monday, April 19, 2021, 14:58 Anders Mjos P2N-SIS    Problems/SolutionsWater leak on coil neg (H and F)

Determined on Friday April 16th that the water leak was on the coil negative circuit. This was determined by circulating water through once circuit at the time. Only HF and GE tested (not Extraction Electrode).

  878   Wednesday, June 09, 2021, 11:51 Aaron Schmidt      Problems/SolutionsTPS:CB2 issue.

Tuesday, June 08, 2021, 08:25: IV4 open. Optics set minus TPS:CB2. Shows as green 'on', set to 500V, however read back shows as 0 V.

Wednesday, June 09, 2021, 08:37: HV off. Attempts made to restart TPS:CB2 unsuccessful. Controls notified.

Wednesday, June 09, 2021, 11:49: Card replaced by controls. Verified "Ok"  in " LB Mode": RDVOL, RDCUR, RDDAC all similar. Operational again.

891   Tuesday, August 03, 2021, 11:55 Fernando Maldonado      Problems/SolutionsSwapped emmittance meter voltage cables.

After not being able to get beam through the emittance meter. I diagnosed that the plates was not biased (reason yet unknow).

I swapped the cables from the plates such that it looks like the picture below. With this, I was able to take an emittance scan with the previous parameters.

Varying the optics affect the shape and position of the emittance so I believe this is a real signal.

Keeping this configuration until I finish my measurement.

892   Thursday, August 05, 2021, 08:49 Fernando Maldonado      Problems/SolutionsCANBUS snooper set up to investigate random optics turnining off

Problem: Some devices turn off unexpectedly and sometimes without any obvious trigger. In the past, the only time this was an issue was during mass scans. Now with the automation of measurements, this is a major problem as it prevents longer parameter scans.

Thursday, August 05, 2021, 08:00: Kevin setup the CANBUS snooper by hooking it up on the magnet card loop port.

This device tracks the network so if any error happen it will be captured.

Thursday, August 05, 2021, 09:39: Test unsuccessful. No device turned off (I should be happy XD)

Thursday, August 05, 2021, 09:40: Will run the test another time

A PC was setup near the old magnet power supply (20210806_150334.jpg ). One of the software run smoothly but the other more useful one fails to connect to the usb adapter.

Friday, August 06, 2021, 14:52: Fixed issue with  the usb adapter. With this, the CANBUS traffic can be store and inspected to catch any error on the communication (Annotation_2021-08-06_144737.png).

Friday, August 06, 2021, 14:53: Loggers are running.

Friday, August 13, 2021, 11:07: I forgot to input the feedback  from Kevin:

"33 errors out of 10,300,00 transaction seems statistically insignificant to me. "

From the devices tripped,

"Most of the tripped supplies are located on the front side of the rack, the original test stand controllers"

So maybe the issues could be

"Compatibility issues with the old and new? The newer supplies are all daisy chained, should we upgrade these to the tap boards?

Should the old controllers (original test stand appear to be MK supplies) be upgraded (do we have enough)?"

893   Saturday, August 07, 2021, 18:07 Fernando Maldonado      Problems/SolutionsFC0 lasrge oscillation and RMPs offset. Both started today. [Got solved by itself]

Saturday, August 07, 2021, 18:02: As mentions in previous entries, the FC0 current oscillates with no change on ion source parameters.

Hence, I came on-site to see if there was an issue with the hardware. Nothing obvious.

Last night there were some sparks that might have cause some issue.

RPMS are shifted toward negative current reading, similar to what we observed when testing TM4 sourcetray.

To rule out hardware issues I swapped the signals from FC0 to FC6 and visceversa.

When the output of FC0 goes to the FC6 controller the readout makes sense, and this behaves as expected with gas on/off.

When the output of FC6 goes to the FC0 controller there is no readout coming out. This suggest, at least to me, that some damage or error is happening on the DAQ side.

I will reboot the ioc expecting to see something.

Things sort kind of Ok but I don't trust it. FC0 reading makes a bit more sense. RPMS remains with an offset

Saturday, August 07, 2021, 20:31: The FC0 reading increase from 7.54e-11 A to 1.64e-8 A starting at 19:32. Also, the RPMS baseleves are not offset anymore, the -10 rd when using the 1 nA scale is back to 0 (normal)
