On Sept. 14 2022, a 10kOhm 30W resistor was installed in each target station faraday cage, in line with the HV bias supply. This was an effort to reduce the current draw from the BIAS supply and protect the power supply controls cards which have been repeatedly breaking due to HV sparks (we think). In the end we still broke cards after the installation, so it doesn't seem to have helped. See below for details on the electrical side:

At 30kV, HV currents are around 100-150uA, meaning the voltage drop over the resistor is around 1.5V. When operating at higher voltages, with higher current draw, the voltage across the resistor could be over 2V and we could get into a situation where it would have an effect outside the normal adjustments needed on the mass separator. We made this decision based on the fact that the power supply's setting resolution is on the order of 1 x 10-4.

When the resistance of the water changes, this affects the current draw from the power supply and this in turn affects the voltage over this resistor. Based on some sample numbers of running times, there is not much variation in the current except from sparks and if there is some issue, like water leaking between HV and ground. During normal running, the voltage change across the resistor should be less than 0.5V during normal operation. This is on the same order as the 8 hour stability of the power supply.

pin 14 to 60kv bias has 20 Kohm @250V Megga check. The rest check on ohmmeter and megga @250 are either OLor over 25Mohm which are good.

Edi and I inspected roughing pump ITM MP1, primary backup pump ITHMP1, and secondary backup pump ITHMP2. We checked oil level and color on all pumps.  Refilled lubricant to ITMMP1. ITHMP1 and MP2 oil level is fine. ITH MP1 oil color is darker than MP2. But, both them are ok still. Shielding block has been restored after the job.

During the weekend condition The TM4 spark at 30KV without vacuum response. It is confirmed the spark is from the top TM4 this morning.The flexible cables in a  black wire sleeve which is used for febiad X pin connection drooped too close to the TM4 surface plate, and caused the sparking. The problem is fixed by Anders and David. The cables is put back where it should stay.  After test, no sparking on the top.

Monday morning June 20th: TM2 with SiC # 42 was moved from ITW to NHC.

Monday afternoon: TM2 with no target was moved from NHC to SHC due to 10 pin connector guide pin loose issue. The guide pin has to be moved out in SHC due to NHC manipulator configuration limit .

Monday afternoon: TM2 with SiC # 43 was moved from SHC  to ITW.

all module moves are smooth.

  TM4 internal water lines helium pressure leak check at ITW : 70psi helium 5 minutes on  each circuits. Base leak rate 0.0X E-9 atm.cc/sec. Base pressure 0.0X E-4torr. Only B line(Oven -) has a tiny 1.5Xe-9 atm.cc/sec response on LD during the check . All others all perfect good.

Using SHC electrical test cables routed to to TH,  We tested TM4 steerer  4 polarities. At 100v megga test, left, right , up and down to ground are all OL. TM4 steerer has no short.

TCS leak check: TCS IG1S1.6 XE- 6 torr. LD  0.0XE-9atm.cc/sec.We used a long pole to spray helium to TCS vacuum seals on diagnostic box and vessel body. Lots helium have been sprayed around the check area.  no leak has been found.

A safety walkaround was completed for the ISAC Hot Cells and Target Hall Areas.

The resulting spreadsheet can be found on DocuShare as Document-242733.

Main deficiencies identified:

  • Hot Cells:
    • Overdue fire extinguisher inspection
    • NHC oil level depleted - to be filled
    • SHC breathable air certification expired (may have been checked but just not updated - to follow up)
    • SHC left manipulator tong cable snapped (planned May 22 repair)
  • Target Hall:
    • NHC depression indicator calibration expired and reading is 0 (requested mech services to check this in Oct 2024)

Action has been, or will be, taken on all deficiencies.
