Missing heli coils installed this morning.

Threads had to be chased with tap for 1/4-20 heli coil and missing countersinks hand applied to allow for installation. Care was taken to ensure no "swarf" was spread and operation was super clean. Chased holes blown out with canned air and a vacuum placed on the other side.

Final assembly can and will now continue.

On Tuesday morning I attempted to complete assembly of the source tray for TM2 however discovered that 3 1/4-20 x 0.25 titanium helicoils had not been installed into the mounting plate as they should have been. Checked and asked around for them but to no avail. I have ordered some, they should have been here yesterday.

Also, I have noticed that the threaded portion of the target pins ITA0328A appear to be too long and as such may be (are indeed) touching the supports. I am going to remove 1/32" or appropriate to remedy this problem (drawing shows 0.035 clearance).

TM2 tray alignment was confirmed with the alignment tray this morning:

Front target 0.000 vertically, 0.000 horizontally.

Back target 0.003 low, 0.000 horizontally

Also, the master target jig was installed and measurements taken:

Front master target - 0.007 high, 0.000 left/right

Rear Master Target - 0.007 high, 0.000 left/right

Rear tray target - 0.003 low

TM2 Tray Alignment is complete except for verification with alignment tray.

First attempt results were:

Front Target: Low 0.011, Left 0.011

Rear Target: Low 0.013, Left 0.002

Final iteration:

Front Target: Vertical 0, Horizontal 0

Rear target: Vertical - 0.003 low, Horizontal 0

Pictures were very hard to get but are below...camera is impossible to get square to lens so pictures are not entirely representative of looking through transit.

Countersink problem with supports has been remedied. Scratches, dings, and pitting has been buffed out and supports re-cleaned and re-assembled.

Friedhelm was consulted regarding the appearance of fine scratches on the main stand-off insulators...the best two matching ones were chosen and assembly continued.

Alignment will start tomorrow.

831   Thursday, January 08, 2015, 10:34 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellStandard Operation  TM2 Tray Build Status and Problems

Final assembly of the source tray for TM2 was started this morning.

Sliding tray was received from keensert installation and cleaned.

Mounting plate/ionizer tube location jig was rechecked against assembly ITA3136...Mounting plate was loosened, jigs for centering the ceramic shields installed and fasteners re-torqued to 57 in lbs.

Upon attempted assemble of ITA3536 and 3537 (support frames) it was noticed that the countersinks were not deep enough...the heads of the screws protrude and would interfere with/damage the support insulators. These items have been given to Dan to have the counterbores adjusted...drawing should be changed to insure a small gap.

Also, one of the support frames has marks on its side that may be a high voltage issue.

Upon inspection of the components in question (ITA3540 & 3538) it was found that they have been made to spec and model; however the spec& model does not allow for adequate theoretical clearance given tolerances. Countersinks will be adjusted and changes documented.

"Pitting" will attempt to be lapped.

823   Monday, December 15, 2014, 15:55 Grant MinorConditioning StationRepair  Access to ISAC TCS TK2 Expansion Tank - Fall Arrest

Hello all,

Access was required this morning to the TCS TK2 Expansion Tank to open a valve and re-fill the tank.

As the access path to this tank lacked any form of Fall Protection, Fall Arrest was employed.

Worksafe BC Part 11 Section 11.2 requires fall protection to be employed at elevations greater than 3 meters.  The expansion tank is located at an elevation far exceeding this regulation.
http://www2.worksafebc.com/publications/ohsregulation/part11.asp

The worker, Allon Messenberg, was fitted with a harness, personal self-retracting lifeline / lanyard with shock-pack, and carried two steel rope ring-ended slings with him to tie off to the structural beams overhead.  All products used were DBI-Sala safety products, which are kept in the Remote Handling machine shop Fall Protection Equipment lockers.  Several RH group members have keys to this locker, including me.

Three configurations were required to gain access to the tank (photo attached):
Configuration 1: Traversing the section between the 2nd floor offices and the ventilation duct.
Configuration 2: Traversing the section between the ventilation duct and the "cross point" of the structural beams.
Configuration 3: Tied-off to the "cross point" of the structural beams and working within the reach limits of the personal SRL and shock-pack.

Transitions between the three configurations required brief moments of un-clipping from the harnesses.  This will be solved in the future via the use of additional carabiners and lanyards.

Operations has advised me that they have observed either TRIUMF workers or contractors working in this area without wearing Fall Arrest equipment.  My request is for staff and operations to stay vigilant in observing access to this area.

Any work performed in this area without the usage of fall arrest must be reported in an NCR.

I welcome any comments from those who have ideas for improving the safe method of access to this tank.

The cooling package is described in the TCS operating manual, Document-103881.  Page 8 states clearly that Fall Arrest is required to access this valve.

Regards,

Grant
