UCx 32# P2N target in vault slot 1B is repacked is morning for Ferran to take out his samples( in two small plastic containers) stored in pail last July when Chad did the spent target job. The job went well.  Old pail # is 254# and new pail # is 233. It is put back to 1B in vault.

  20   Thursday, August 18, 2011, 13:12 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellStandard OperationTM1UCx #2UCx #2 Installation

UCx #2 has been installed onto TM1.

Installation went well except the left leg got bent slightly sometime between testing on the jig and installation onto the module (probably during removal for the argon filled bag). Leg was gentle offered into place and its clearance with the heat shield double checked with both a mirror and goose neck camera. Leg was close to ther heat shield but appeared to have clearance. Anders and John Wong viewed this and deemed it ok. Video images of this clearance were recorded.

Leak checking was also completed successfully:

Base pressure on the leak detector was a constant 0.0 x 10-4, Stable leak rate was an unwavering 0.0 x 10-9.

Both heat sheild circuits were checked twice (starting with the highest gland) and sprayed with a 2 second burst of helium into the test hole in the nut. No reponses were seen after 1 minute an any of the circuits.

Bevan Moss and David Wang performed an electrical check which they relayed to me that the module with target installed had passed.

On Tuesday, January 24th UCx#18 was removed from TM2 and Ta febiad dummy installed. I encountered the same issue mounting the new target as last time. Was able to determine that the issue is the routing of the waterlines to the right-hand (as viewed from the operator) high current tube heater. The lines interfer the the target mounting plate (bottom right hand corner).

May 7th, 2025 - Aaron Schmidt, Aaron Tam

UC#49 Handover - good

  • April 30th - Initial fit check was performed
    • This is a new procedure that allows time for any potential modifications to be made.
  • May 7th ~9:00am Target taken out of glovebox and tested for fit
  • Target legs and mounting bolts all thread in nicely. Bottom 2 conductor leg mounting holes have slightest misalignment.
  • Target bagged, and brought to ISAC Hot-cells anteroom

Target inserted into NHC - successful

  •  Target loaded onto cart without issue

Target Install - Complicated

  • Gas line gasket dislodged upon fully inserting target onto source-tray guide-pins
  • During the attempt to remove target from source-tray, East manipulator tong cable hopped off a pully
    • This is the same slave manip that was recently replaced ID: 2799
  • Attempts to reinstall the gasket proved unsuccessful, and gasket was ultimately lost under the source-tray
  • 3 more gaskets were inserted into the Hot cells, with the same unsuccessful outcome
    • gaskets lost underneath source-tray
  • One attempt to install a side loading gasket was tried
    • stopped after the first try as the tool is liable to fling the gasket to a critical area
  • Aaron Schmidt made a new tool to install a male-side gasket
    • This proved to be successful (photo shown)
  • The rest of the install procedure was successful
    • without the East manipulator functional, west manipulator was used
    • west manipulator has a smaller tong opening to avoid cable hopping
    • Finishing at 3:00pm UC target exposed to air for ~6 hours

June 17th, 2025 - Aaron Tam, Brady Borrmann, David Wang, Travis Cave

UC#48 Removal 10:20am - 11:35am

  • Upon loosening of right-side water line, some leakage was observed (photos attached)
    • As soon as this was noticed, VCR nut was tightened and lines were purged for an additional 10 minutes
    • Second attempt removing water line nuts successful
  • Multipin connector disconnected smoothly
  • Most 3/8" bolts loosened with very little resistance. Target Tube Conductor Leg bolts remained tight (Use of torque wrench and washers may have aided in this result)

Post Irradiation Examination

  • Target brought down onto a plastic container carefully to avoid handling damage before photos
  • Photos taken of target from all six sides
    • Target is noticeably clean for an irradiated target

Disposal

  • Multipin removed and placed inside empty 5 gallon pail #141
  • Argon filled for 40 minutes before removing tube and closing lid

June 19th - Aaron Tam, Chad Fisher 9:15am-10:30am

  • UC#48 removed from Pail#141 and placed into Pail#303
  • Small metal parts and compressible waste was also placed into Pail#303
    • 1 target tube conductor leg bolt was left in Hot cell. This was placed into pail#141 till next spent target pail loading
    • previous pail clamp lever was left out to be loaded another time
  • Plastic bag was a little short and was standing proud of the top of the pail (will cut longer bag next spent target) (Short bags are unable to tuck into itself)
  • Skill issue with clamping the lid solved by Chad Fisher

  2794   Thursday, April 24, 2025, 12:53 Aaron TamNorth Hot-CellStandard OperationTM4UC#48UC#48 IGLIS Install onto TM4

C. Fisher, A. Schmidt, A. Tam

UC#48 Handover satisfactory

  • Target taken out of glovebox and tested for fit
  • The left most triplet conductor leg was seen to be slightly misaligned, but the test fit showed that the bolt still threads on with some flexing from the suspect target leg.

Target inserted into NHC successfully

  •  tight fit with IGLIS means some rubbing of the two conductor legs did occur with the tool port tunnel
  • NHC target tray used, so tray from transportation was left in anteroom
  • HVAC vacuum pressure dropped below threshold for a minute while toolport door was open.
    • Operations chained off SHC doors and RPG got involved to ensure the safety of everyone in the area

Target Install successful

  • A moment of rough handling of the target occurred when tilting the target towards operator in preparation for install
  • The suspected misaligned conductor leg did not initially accept a screw, but the use of a T-handled allen key and using a different screw from the package worked
  • Leak checks successful
  • Electrical checks successful

Replacements of NHC tool cart has been built, but some modifications may be made before it is inserted into the hotcell

 November 26, 2024 - Aaron Tam

Handover from TPO and inspection

  • Completed
  • Some modification to the center Inner-Outer conductor had to be made (hole enlarged as tab was slightly short)

Target Insertion:

  • Successful

Target Mounting:

  • Upon fully seating UC#47 on service tray locating pins, the gas line VCR gasket came off
    • Operator doesn't have line-of-sight to this area, so there has to be healthy clearance (Foreshadowing)
    • Gas line VCR gasket reinstalled using manipulators
  • 2nd seating of UC#47 on service tray locating pins, the gas line VCR gasket came off again
    • Some alignment interference with the gas line coupling is the cause of the gasket falling off during placement (photo attached)
    • Gas line on service tray was loosened, raised to highest position and fastened (Photo attached)
    • Failed to re-install VCR gasket (Plastic separated from gasket material)
  • Target removed from Hot cell to reinstall gaskets and make modifications to the gas-line coupling
    • Gas line coil plastically deformed to give less of a spring action so the coupling can stay down under friction until it is time to couple
    • Target carefully inserted into hot cell without disturbing spring/friction of gas-line coupling.
      • This had to be repeated several times. Once for the waterline gaskets coming off, and a few other times to insert the target/tray without disturbing sprung coupling
  • Target mounted without issue after the above steps successfully

Gas and Water Services:

  • VCR connections coupled
  • Leak test passed
    • leak test faster today because module had been left in silo for a long time to dry out.
  • Gas line no-longer needed, so was not checked

Electrical Services:

  • Conductor bolts installed
  • All bolts (including mounting bolts) checked for fit with mirror
  • Coil conductor bolts torqued to at least 130inch-lbs
  • Electrical test completed

Containment box panel reinstalled

Cleared area around module for craning out.

UC#3 was removed from TM1 this morning. Upon removing the oven heater bolts BOTH legs fell demonstrating that both sides of the oven tube have broken off from the central block.

Target was put into a can under argon for disposal after the module is removed from the cell.

The source tray looked to be in very good, clean condition.

UCx#19 still had water in it at pressure and sprayed when the VCR was undone. It was quickly re-tightened but not before significant water pooled beside the main Mykroy standoff and table. Contacted Anders would suggested to soak it up with some wipes and continue, which I did.

New target fasteners including high current. High current fasteners torqued to 130 in lbs.

UCx#16 did not show the standard arcing marks on the 9 pin connector.

In regards to the 9 pin connector on number 17, it was by far the best fitting TM4 target with 9 pin as it required no "fiddling" during installation.

  894   Tuesday, April 21, 2015, 17:14 Isaac EarleSouth Hot-CellStandard OperationTM1UC#12UC#12 Installed in TM1

On Friday April 17th, UC#12 target was installed in TM1.  One of the copper water lines was bent slightly as the target was lifted into the module which caused ~15 minute delay due to difficulty getting the VCR nut threads to engage.  Other than this the install went smoothly.

During replacement of the containment box panel two of the threaded holes were found to be stripped.  One on the top at the center, the other in the bottom right corner.  These two holes were left without fasteners (see attached photo).  It is unknown at this time whether these holes were already stripped, or if they were stripped during this installation.
