MCIS-
a new oven assembly was installed on the MCIS yesterday. The cart has been installed in the cage and is connected.
The power is connected to the cart oven as is the MCIS bias. it is currently on and being tested for Se
MWS-
Keerthi removed the Be electrode and installed the quartz beaker. There is quite a bit of a copper coating inside the source.

MCIS-
the cleaning has been completed. The oven assembly is removed and the gate valve closed.
The quartz tubes on the ground electrode have been installed with the larger diameter tube pushed as far downstream (toward the optics box) as possible. The smaller tube has been positioned to extend 1-3/4" into the plasma chamber w.r.t. the insulator flange.
Currently the turbos are running and the source is pumping down.
Note-
there was a Controls problem when trying to operate the source. They tracked the problem down to a bad ethernet communication cable. A temporary cable is in place while a new one is being prepared. |

MCIS-
cleaning out source to remove potassium and calcium.
Areas cleaned with scotch-brite and then wiped with methanol: plasma chamber, tuning chamber (ports opened for access), TP3 tube. The inside of the ground electrode tip has been removed and sand blasted clean. The inside of the ground electrode has been wiped as much as possible (very limited access).
The ALGA amplifier has been unplugged and moved. |

The nitrogen bottle needs to be replaced.
MCIS-
Does not appear to be producing very much Se. There is a lot of calcium and potassium.
Cart is removed. Unplugged CPI amplifier. No extra time for investigation. Set-up required for MWS.
note: one cart wheel is damaged. will need to service, or replace in s/d. other wheels will need to be check as well.
MWS-
Changed to Be plasma electrode for upcoming experiment. |

The remaining connections were done on the MCIS.
A piece of 1/8" teflon was installed between the back of the sputtering tube/motor and the HV cage.
Ray confirmed the cart power supplies (heater and sputtering) Epics page readouts for Voltage and Current are okay. The Heater p/s was left plugged into the cart receptacle. The Sputtering p/s's are unplugged.
The MCIS:FC0 OUT limit was not actuating. It was adjusted.
Keerthi tested the oven last night and was getting Se (14/10/24 it appeared to be Se, but the Prague magnet was not working. Further investigation revealed it was not). The oven supply is currently bypassed and ON.
Evigeny is working on the Alga and CPI amplifiers. Both signal generators and the amplifiers are powered ON and connected. Alga to the dummy load and CPI to the MCIS. |

MCIS-
the cart was moved into the HV cage. The facilities will be connected and an oven will be tested for the upcoming Se experiment.
Will take measurements for installation of key interlocks on cart power supplies.
SIS-
the filament assembly was removed for inspection. When increasing the ionizer current it would work correctly until about 20 amps. Then the current would stop (like an open cct).
MWS-
will prepare for Be later this week. |

Raymond Dube | Routine | General | Test with new Alga, ALPA 50W RF AMP |
We did a test yesterday with the new Alga Microwave RF AMP, model # ALPA 50 Watt, serial # 130684 to be used for the MCIS. We used the RF Generator from MISTIC and set the frequency to 13.80 Ghz, note that the RF Generator was/is limited to 16DB maxiumum RF output.
The RF cable that we used was from the 200W RF AMP, it has a 20DB SMA attenuator at the Generator end, so we could only get about 25 Watts maximum output. |

Raymond Dubé | Routine | General | OLIS Attenuators #2 fixed, #1 gone! |
Today Probe group (Scott K.) installed the OLIS Attenuator, they fixed the vacuum leak on Attenuator #2, Marco M. asked them to remove Attenuator #1 because it is not needed and confusing for Ops;
Attenuator #1 was an experiment that Marco M. asked for, it was the same as Attenuator #2 but with 45 degrees offset, the results were not good and he decided to remove it. |

Raymond Dubé | | | OLIS Bender Magnet PS (0-500 amps) |
Arthur and Derek had a look at the OLIS Bender Magnet P/S and found a problem with the Polarity Switch, it was set up upside down, they fixed that.
Note: We do not need a Polarity Switch for OLIS may be we should remove or bypass it, at the moment when the PS goes OFF we need to use the reverse Polarity to Bend the Beam the right way. |

Raymond Dubé | Routine | General | OLIS Surface Source broken Ionizer Coil |
We spent most of the day looking at OLIS to find out why the "Ionizer Coil" keeps breaking down, we found the following:
1. The FAN to cool R5 (ref: ISK4583D rev.7) a 25 Ohm 200W Resistor (2x50 ohm/100W ea.) was not ON, the nylon insulator (also the plastic tube across to the HV Terminal) was burnt and not holding the R5 resistor properly, I replaced the plastic insulator with a ceramic insulator.
Note that if the PE electrode is open it will charge up to the beam energy and start sparking. Also I used a red heatshrink tubing to prevent the BNC connector (it sits at Common) to touch the Cu pipe for the Plasma electrode water cooling.
2. Drawing for PE Polarity Switch: ISK4386D rev. 5
3. Drawing for EE:SS BOP (resistors & spark gap): ISK4584D rev. 1
4. Drawing for OLIS Surface & McroWave Source electrical diagram: ISK4583D rev. 7 |
