Monday, November 27, 2023, 17:22 Both turbos are on, leaving vacuum over night.
Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 09:28 after pumping over night IG1 is at .15e-6 T. Water cooling on.
Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 14:34 HV test started. Sparks on the TC seen at BIAS/EE/EZL 31/-1.8/15kV. TC values recovered after sparks, TP6 tripped during sparks as well. Venting chamber to reposition TC.
Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 17:37 I couldn't manage to close properly the side door of the chamber... waiting for help tomorrow.
Wednesday, November 29, 2023, 10:51 Roughing started earlier in the morning. IG1 at 1e-5 T. Ramping up bias.
Wednesday, November 29, 2023, 11:41 HV tests lead to 45kV sparks on the TC. Nothing seen on the RPi.
Wednesday, November 29, 2023, 13:22 The ballast of TMSRP2 was opened to attempt to improve the roughing in the beam line section. Things appear to be somehow better now, TMSTP6 and TMSTP2 are on now.
Wednesday, November 29, 2023, 16:00 IG1 is at 3.58e-6. HV tests starting again.
Wednesday, November 29, 2023, 23:36 HV tests ended earlier in the afternoon. No spark up to 55kV when gauge in the HV cage started sparking as usual.
Wednesday, November 29, 2023, 23:38 TGHT and TBHT ramp up in preparation of mass scans in the morning. 1A/30s up to TGHT:400A, TBHT:160A
Thursday, November 30, 2023, 09:05 TGHT and TBHT ramp up in preparation of mass scans in the morning. 1A/30s up to TGHT:580A, TBHT:230A
Thursday, November 30, 2023, 12:12 Mass scans started earlier in the morning. 1st scan completed at 0.1A/s, repeating it again now with 0.05A/s.
Thursday, November 30, 2023, 15:04 HV tests again up to 55kV. 2 sparks inside the vacuum, to be checked if they affected TC measurement with the pi. Gauge still sparks in the upper HV cage.

Monday, December 04, 2023, 12:21: This morning, increased BIAS to 30kV. Ran mass scan with adjusted beam tune up to FC0. This mass scan was repeated with inactive quadrupole elements up to FC0 to compare with Friday. 2023-12-02_RBsalt_SIS_test1.txt and 2023-12-02_RBsalt_SIS_test2.txt
Tuesday, December 05, 2023, 14:12 HV tests restarted, TC wire brought closer to the ground wall. IG1 at 2.3e-6 T. Ramping up HV.
Wednesday, December 06, 2023, 13:48 Both yesterday and today the TC wire was not close enough to spark even at 60kV. Venting the chamber one more time to bring the TC closer.
Thursday, December 07, 2023, 10:18 Vacuum at 5e-7T we see sparks at about 47kV. Lost control of epics during sparks, PS shut off manually. Everything recovered after.
Thursday, December 07, 2023, 13:32 After spark tests at ~55kV, Pi seems not to be affected by the sparks. Tests without the power surge components yielded similar results. We discovered that the sparks on the TC are partially diverted by spark gaps and probably other elements in the top HV cage.

PS went current limited at AnodeBias=300V and show 3A on the PS Screen, the multimeter read the same.

PS goes to limited current even at 2V.
Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 09:10: Problem persists even at lower TBHG (330A).
The output cable was removed and the power power supply seemed to behave better. This could mean that there is a short inside the unit, in the past the anode cable had melted into the cup.
Planning to ramp down the TBHT and see if the behaviour remains. If it does, I would ask to remove the unit for inspection.

Fernando Maldonado | | | | | | | Problems/Solutions | Burnt cables on top of the test stand | Tuesday, June 25, 2019, 16:15: While inspecting the 9-pin connection with Ferran, it was noticed how two braided cables were burnt out pretty bad to the point they were separated in half (see attached pictures). Additionally the plastic insulator for the anode wire was melted.
Tuesday, June 25, 2019, 16:30: Braided cables need to be changed and anode wire redone.
Tuesday, June 25, 2019, 17:16: Wondering if this happened during TM4 source tray conditioning given the following entries in the elog (entry 725):
Monday, June 03, 2019, 09:51: BIAS down to 50 kV. Burnt plastic smell lingering. Wait*
Tuesday, June 04, 2019, 10:29: Note* Minute fluctuations of Anode current have ended after the spark. Also slight 'Burnt' smell noticed around the test stand area.

Thursday, June 27, 2019, 09:45: The cables showing burnt marks were changed with new ones on Wednesday 26th. The grounding cables were insulated with yellow heatshrink. The anode wire connection was redone. |

Fernando Maldonado | P2N | | | | | | Done | Re-wiring on service cap. | Monday, July 15, 2019, 15:54 : TBHT high current cables moved to Coil feedthroughs.
Coil high current cables moved to TBHT feedthroughs.
Resistor across Coil feedthroughs E and F are now moved between TBHT feedthroughs A and B.
Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 09:00
A braided cable between F and H was changed due to the burnt aspect it had. Most likely this cable was burnt along the previous ones (see entry 740) but since it was uniformed blacked and not broken I didn't noticed it.
Resistor/Varistor between TGHT and TBHT removed.

Fernando Maldonado | P2N | | | | | | | P2N 1200 A test | Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 10:27: The idea of this run is to have the full 600 A from TGHT and the full 600 A from TBHT.
This will done based on the rewiring done previously (see entry 745)
Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 12:16: Jumper cable F-H burning while target was at 600 A total. Ramp up aborted and auto-cooling started to remove the jumper.
Jumper removed.
TBHT cables on both positive coil FT.
Jumper E-G removed.
High current cable connecting F-H.
Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 16:49
Current ramped up to 300A + 300A on TGHT and TBHT in parallel, for an equivalent of 600A on the target. No burn to anything noticed, PS ramping nicely together. Stopped ramping up and started ramp down for the night. |

Fernando Maldonado | | | | | | | Problems/Solutions | RMP0A and FC6 gains signal redirection to another channel | After submitting a fault report (FR - ISAC Fault 12461) a Work Permit was issued (WP - C2019-07-19-1),
Controls tunnel the faulty signal to another ADC by removing signal no longer used at the Test Stand.
Test successful with a constant current power supply in the range 1 nA-40 nA.
TBD: does this work with beam? |

Fernando Maldonado | | | | | | | Problems/Solutions | Test stand inspection | Wednesday, August 07, 2019, 15:12: Arthur helped inspected the electric connections on the TS.
One of the coil positive waterlines was touching a HS waterline. Manually adjusted them to have a better clearance.

Fernando Maldonado | | | | | | | Problems/Solutions | 9-pin connection modification | Thursday, August 15, 2019, 16:17: Q FT undone to remove the connection to the 9-pin
The idea is to change the cables to have individual signals. This will allow 4 thermocouple readings.
NB: The FT is not vacuum tight as of now (gasket needs to be replaced and flange needs to be tight) |
