All TPS optics, with the exception of TPS:Q4 cannot be turned off. E-Fault#6395 for Controls.

Same for the TSG optics: CB1, VCB1 and CBC.

Talked to Evgeniy and Kazuya. Optics are OFF now.

Venting the Test Stand.

TiC#3 will be ready to be removed in few minutes.

Please note: water is still ON.

Target looks OK. The right leg was a bit much out of center and will be adjusted in the lab.

The torque required to loosen the bolts were measured (from left to right):

Target legs: 48 and 30 in lbs

Tube htr: 25, 30 and 25 in lbs

Prepared the Test Stand for Controls to investigate E-Fault#6389.

Evgeniy increased the current limit on the power supply TSH:TGHT from 2 rotations to 7 rotations, after talking to Ray Dube.

I turned on the HV at 30kV and started the Auto-ramping.

  234   Thursday, November 22, 2012, 12:52 Aurelia LaxdalTest-SiCHP-FEBIAD     E-Fault#6389 re-directed to PS

Evgeniy and Kazuya investigated the problem with TSH:TGHT readbacks and they came to the conclusion that the PS is faulty, and the PLC reads correctly the signal sent by the PS.  Kazuya is redirecting the E-Fault from Controls to PS.

Ray Dube estimated few weeks (4-6) to send the PS offsite for repairs. This needs to be scheduled. For the time being, one can use the Test Stand with the PS setpoints, displayed on its front panel, as a reference.

  244   Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 13:27 Sebastian Raeder       9 PIN connector

A Sub D 9 Pin connector on a HV insulator was installed on Port Q of the target box at the teststand. The insulator is leak tested and OK, vacuum is below 2E-7 T

The feed through is connected (1to1) to the upper 9 Pin connector of the target tray. Since the existing upper 9 Pin connector was damaged from a previous FEBIAD test, this connector was replaced. For wiring 4 twisted pair Capton insulated and shielded wires (identical to ITE and TM4) of about 50cm length are used.

1to1 connection for pins 1,2,4-9

Pin 3 is NOT CONNCTED

The pin pairs 1&2, 4&5, 6&7, 8&9 each use a line of twisted pairs

Monday, December 17, 2012, 22:21

Connection to the HV added. The wires end in the HV cage on a screw terminal with labels 1--12. The numbers 1,2,4-9 are used in corresponding notation to the sketch above. Since 3 is not connected at all this terminal is used for grounding the wire shielding.

As cable 2 Capton isolated pairs of wire (1&2, 4&5) and two "normal" pairs for thermocouple (6&7, 8&9) reading are used. So all connections have shielded twisted pair cable, while  (6&7, 8&9)change the cable type at the 9Pin connector

new ion guide laser ion source installed. Pure target container without targetmaterial and without surface ion source.

Heat up to 580A for heat test of all components. Distance between target and repeller < 1mm

13:15 start heating TGHT, 1A per 30sec vacuum below 2E-7T

14:50 reached 200A at TGHT (1.5V readback same as frontpanel), vacuum now 2.9E-7T, proceed on to 400A

16:10 TGHT 350 A (setpoint, readback stopped at 269A) and 3.4V readback, sudden increase in vacuum from 4E-7T to 5.5E-7T and larger fluctuations, give it 10min

16:22 vacuum back to 4.4E-7T but some occasional vacuum spikes , proceed to 400A

17:00 at 400A / 4.13V, vacuum hit 2E-6T in between which delayed the heating, now decreasing, will goto 410A for half an hour and then 385A over night

Dec 12th

8:30 3.3E-7T Vac at 385A, goto 420A

8:50 7.5E-7T Vac at 420A, goto 450A

Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 14:31

580A reached,  Vacuum dropped from 1.8E-6T to 5.8E-7T in 2h

voltage read back is wrong as well Panel readings are 572A/6.99V (read back values in EPICS are 248A/ 4.6V)

Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 14:47 6.5E-7T at 592A/ 7.31V (Panel readings)

Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 15:01 there is no contact of the target to HV GND (especially the repeller), the target can still be biased to 5V

Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 19:48     5.9E-7Tvacuum is slowly going down now

Thursday, December 13, 2012, 00:23   5.5E-7T, start cooling down

Short summary on results of first heating teest with the Ion Guide Ion source:

The Ion source is still in good shape, nothing was effected by the heat. Just some deposition in the repellers and the exit electrode

The capton wires used for  wiring the electrodes had some problem with heat and went black and got brittle - for the next test we will ad a Ta schield at the side of the source to prevent radiation inside the source.
