chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Repair | TM2 | | TM2 Waterblock Clean Polish |
Fiberglass that fell out yesterday was put back in place (as well as possible).
Cleaning took place this morning with excellent results. Cleaning was performed with red scotch brite on the cleaning tool, air pressure at 40 psi while running, with one 60 second cycle. Three blocks (EE, HS and Window) needed a second pass to remove the indium.
Polishing commenced with 2000 grit wet sand paper. Paper was wet with isopropynol. 60 second cycles for double seal blocks, 30 second for singles. The 2000 grit pass was completed.
Polishing will finish tomorrow morning as well as removal of optics tray from source tray in preparartion for insertion of the source tray into the module tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning.
First picture is Tube heater Circuit D block before cleaning and second picture is after cleaning.

Both halves of the water block jigs have been removed and the module is now ready for base vacuum leak and electrical checks.
During removal of the jigs the fiberglass that had been "shoved" by hand in between two of the lines in the early 2000's fell out again. |

Master target jig installed to locate attachment bracket ITA3389 as well as conductor insulator block b (aluminum / for soldering version) and oven conductor blocks (ITD0353 and 03356).
There were NO ITA6145 fasteners or TGN0076 either. Standard 1/4-20 x 1" fasteners have been used in there place for now. Keith is following up with getting the missing fasteners into the shop.
Oven conductor blocks will have to be lapped before lines are attached as they both have dents on the high current mating surfaces.

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Standard Operation | | | TM2 Tray Build Status and Problems |
Final assembly of the source tray for TM2 was started this morning.
Sliding tray was received from keensert installation and cleaned.
Mounting plate/ionizer tube location jig was rechecked against assembly ITA3136...Mounting plate was loosened, jigs for centering the ceramic shields installed and fasteners re-torqued to 57 in lbs.
Upon attempted assemble of ITA3536 and 3537 (support frames) it was noticed that the countersinks were not deep enough...the heads of the screws protrude and would interfere with/damage the support insulators. These items have been given to Dan to have the counterbores adjusted...drawing should be changed to insure a small gap.
Also, one of the support frames has marks on its side that may be a high voltage issue.
Upon inspection of the components in question (ITA3540 & 3538) it was found that they have been made to spec and model; however the spec& model does not allow for adequate theoretical clearance given tolerances. Countersinks will be adjusted and changes documented.
"Pitting" will attempt to be lapped.

Countersink problem with supports has been remedied. Scratches, dings, and pitting has been buffed out and supports re-cleaned and re-assembled.
Friedhelm was consulted regarding the appearance of fine scratches on the main stand-off insulators...the best two matching ones were chosen and assembly continued.
Alignment will start tomorrow.

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Repair | TM2 | | TM2 Tray Build |
On Tuesday morning I attempted to complete assembly of the source tray for TM2 however discovered that 3 1/4-20 x 0.25 titanium helicoils had not been installed into the mounting plate as they should have been. Checked and asked around for them but to no avail. I have ordered some, they should have been here yesterday.
Also, I have noticed that the threaded portion of the target pins ITA0328A appear to be too long and as such may be (are indeed) touching the supports. I am going to remove 1/32" or appropriate to remedy this problem (drawing shows 0.035 clearance). |

Missing heli coils installed this morning.
Threads had to be chased with tap for 1/4-20 heli coil and missing countersinks hand applied to allow for installation. Care was taken to ensure no "swarf" was spread and operation was super clean. Chased holes blown out with canned air and a vacuum placed on the other side.
Final assembly can and will now continue. |

TM2 Tray Alignment is complete except for verification with alignment tray.
First attempt results were:
Front Target: Low 0.011, Left 0.011
Rear Target: Low 0.013, Left 0.002
Final iteration:
Front Target: Vertical 0, Horizontal 0
Rear target: Vertical - 0.003 low, Horizontal 0
Pictures were very hard to get but are below...camera is impossible to get square to lens so pictures are not entirely representative of looking through transit.

Gas lines extensions installed yesterday were too long and gas lines touched top inside of containment box. They have been removed and the gas lines re-installed in their original manner. Gas lines have been "adjusted" as to clear the tube heater lines, which was the original issue. |
