C. Fisher, A. Schmidt, A. Tam

UC#48 Handover satisfactory

  • Target taken out of glovebox and tested for fit
  • The left most triplet conductor leg was seen to be slightly misaligned, but the test fit showed that the bolt still threads on with some flexing from the suspect target leg.

Target inserted into NHC successfully

  •  tight fit with IGLIS means some rubbing of the two conductor legs did occur with the tool port tunnel
  • NHC target tray used, so tray from transportation was left in anteroom
  • HVAC vacuum pressure dropped below threshold for a minute while toolport door was open.
    • Operations chained off SHC doors and RPG got involved to ensure the safety of everyone in the area

Target Install successful

  • A moment of rough handling of the target occurred when tilting the target towards operator in preparation for install
  • The suspected misaligned conductor leg did not initially accept a screw, but the use of a T-handled allen key and using a different screw from the package worked
  • Leak checks successful
  • Electrical checks successful

Replacements of NHC tool cart has been built, but some modifications may be made before it is inserted into the hotcell

UC#48 Removal 10:20am - 11:35am

  • Upon loosening of right-side water line, some leakage was observed (photos attached)
    • As soon as this was noticed, VCR nut was tightened and lines were purged for an additional 10 minutes
    • Second attempt removing water line nuts successful
  • Multipin connector disconnected smoothly
  • Most 3/8" bolts loosened with very little resistance. Target Tube Conductor Leg bolts remained tight (Use of torque wrench and washers may have aided in this result)

Post Irradiation Examination

  • Target brought down onto a plastic container carefully to avoid handling damage before photos
  • Photos taken of target from all six sides
    • Target is noticeably clean for an irradiated target

Disposal

  • Multipin removed and placed inside empty 5 gallon pail
  • Argon filled for 40 minutes before removing tube and closing lid
  • awaiting spent target removal procedure

129   Wednesday, June 20, 2012, 11:39 Grant MinorSouth Hot-CellDevelopmentTM3N/ATM3 Planned Activites at South Hot Cell Jun 20 to 29 2012

(Copy of e-mail correspondence sent June 20th 2012)

After some discussions this morning I’ve decided on the following best path forward for TM3 at the Hot Cell leading up to the Canada Day long weekend.

General Goals:

-          Blank-off TM3 water line terminations (coil, heat shield, water-cooled window)

-          Test sliding tray removal tool to determine fit on TM3 chassis

We will skip the Conditioning Station leak tests and return TM3 directly to a silo for the following reasons:

-          We will have a visitor next week and this will impact Chad’s time available to do Hot Cell work

-          Helium pressure leak checks on the blanked-off circuits are only one small portion of a large set of diagnostic tests (leak, electrical, HV, etc.) that must ultimately be performed on TM3 to determine its fitness. This full set of tests must be carefully documented in a procedure and executed systematically when there is adequate time at the CS to do all of them, with results recorded.  There is currently not adequate time for this work between now and Canada Day.

-          If we were to detect a leak from one of these tests, it would not tell us anything about where the leak is in that given circuit (there are multiple possible points).  The service cap would have to be opened regardless, which we don’t have time for.

-          The aforementioned bullets above lead me to conclude that the extra work required for two module moves for one set of partial leak checks is not a value-added exercise: In other words, the module will have to go back to the CS, regardless of what we do over the next week for more tests.  The time savings of trying to squeeze it in next week are really negligible and it makes for a tight schedule for not much benefit.

Chad:  Please prepare a detailed work plan for your hot cell jobs including a list of the tools required and what leak checks you will do specifically after you have installed the blank-offs.  You may refer to existing procedures if you already have these written.  I would like to review this plan and I am expecting that an e-log will be filed daily and this work plan should be referred to as an attachment.

Proposed Schedule Jun 20 to 29

Wednesday Jun 20 (1 working day)

-          Setup for TM3 move from Silo to HC (Travis, David)

Thursday Jun 21 (1 working day)

-          TM3 moved from silo to HC (Travis, Don Dale, David)

Friday Jun 22 to Wednesday Jun 27 (4 working days)

-          Chad performs the following HC work on TM3:

·         Removes containment box

·         Installs water-line blank-offs

·         Checks Sliding Tray Removal Tool Fit

-          Vacuum leak checks of blanked-off lines at the HC (Chad, David, VG)

-          Chad buttons up TM3

-          In parallel - David performs block moves as required

Thursday Jun 28 (1 working day)

-          TM3 moved from HC to Silo (Travis, Don Dale, David)

Friday Jun 29 (1 working day)

-          Contingency

RH Group: Please move ahead with the work as outlined above.  Please comment if you have any concerns or proposed changes to this plan.  Thanks very much to all for your assistance,

Grant

  130   Thursday, June 21, 2012, 14:00 Travis CaveSouth Hot-CellRepairTM3no targetmodule move

TM#3 has been moved from the south west silo to the south hot cell for the start of its second refurb/repair. The fields of the module when it was lowed in was 2msv/hr.

  131   Thursday, June 21, 2012, 14:30 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellRepairTM3N/ATM3 Refurbishment Start

Started refurb of TM3.

Planned activities:

Inspection

Water line blank off

Started 1:00pm

  • Video inspection before containment box removed - noticed discoloration on top right (if looking from h/c window) 4" insulator
  • Containment box cover removed
  • Containment box removed

As I am much older, wiser and handsomer then last time I removed this style of box, I realised there was a better, safer procedure for the removal...I will be updating the doc. accordingly.

End 2:25 pm

  133   Monday, June 25, 2012, 07:53 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellRepairTM3N/ATM3 Refurb. Work

On Friday, June 22 the following work was carried out.

  • Further inspection of the source tray.
  • Testing of existing tray removal and installation tool...it works fine, there was just a specific method for proper coupling to the target module. There was no documentation for this tool, so it took a little bit of insight with the drawings and a little trial and error. A document should be written for this tool so its proper use is documented...I will do this.
  • Blank-offs installed on heat shield water lines.
  • New gaskets installed on window water lines.
  • Containment box re-installed.

135   Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 14:10 David WangSouth Hot-CellRepairTM3 TM3 heat shield and window circuits leak check is done.

Chad and i did a leak check on TM3 heat shield and window circuits. Both circuits are pumped easily down to the bottom leak rate and base pressure on the leak detector. There are two VCR caps on heat shield circuit. Chad sprayed helium on both of them   ( tested individually,2 seconds every time ) . There is no response on leakdetecor during 45 seconds waiting time. On window circuit there are 2 VCR joints. Chad sprayed helim on these joints(2seconds for each), and no response on leak detector. All joints  are double checked(sprayed twice on each of them). The result is they are leak tight.
