5 pails were moved from the mini-storage vault into F-308's

At one point during the loading the mini-storage vault door would not close. Cause was a blown fuse, which was replaced and operations were able to continue as usual. Possible reason the fuse blow was a tilted pail that may have become jammed between the tray and the roof of the mini-storage vault.

[Edit 2022-12-01, Adam Newsome]: the pails which were removed were: 220, 227, 233, 235, 238

Entry  Wednesday, May 11, 2022, 16:29, Nadia Jorgenson, Spent Target Vault, Standard Operation, , , Routine mechanical inspection: storage vault Motor_wiring_ISAC_storage_vault.jpg

An inspection was performed on drive systems for the main storage vault by Dan McDonald, Travis Cave and Nadia Jorgenson. The functionality was not tested. Some areas for improvement noted, but otherwise nothing concerning was discovered.

Notes:

  • The wire insulation to the motor is showing wear and tear. Should be replaced in the future. For now was patched with electrical tape, see picture. May be beneficial to add an e-chain for the portion of the wiring that moves when door is opening and closing

  • Emergency close mechanism cable should be changed to have a 5/32” Nico Sleeve

  • Moving parts still need to be lubricated

  • Chain inspected (OK)

  • Gearbox inspected - OK

  • All drive system set screws checked and tightened

  • Sprocket alignment checked - OK

  • Limit switches checked - OK

  • Emergency close mechanism cable checked - OK

The emergency close mechanism for the Storage Vault door was tested by Travis Cave, Nadia Jorgenson, and Dan McDonald. The door was opened to its fully open limit, then closed with the emergency system.

The test was successful.

Entry  Friday, May 06, 2022, 10:12, Adam Newsome, Spent Target Vault, Maintenance, , , Annual Inspection of Mini-Storage Vault

The annual inspection of the mini-storage vault was performed today. The following items were checked:

  • Cabling and cable management
  • Connectors
  • Controls box - internal wiring and components, functionality
  • Limit switches - functionality, wiring, mounting
  • Motor
  • Bearings
  • Set screws
  • Miscellaneous fasteners (some loose, but were tightened)

Everything appears to be in good working order.

Note: in the near future, the bearings should be greased. This is planned to take place during the next inspection of the main storage vault.

Entry  Monday, April 04, 2022, 21:04, Carla Babcock, Conditioning Station, Development, TM2, , HV testing of IGLIS wires in TM2

TM2 is in the TCS without containment box for HV testing following the installation of the IGLIS wiring.

Not great results so far - sat at 42.5kV for nearly 2 hours, current around 200uA and occasional sparks. I did not have time to go higher, will do this tomorrow. The sparks could be conditioning but it looks a bit suspicious to me. We will see if the ramp up tomorrow is very easy and how high we can go. I have data from HV testing of TM2 in December for comparison.

The EZL was reacting to all sparks, so I went into the target hall to see if it was sparking on the module top, but there was no sparking there.

Possible mitigations:

  1. Re-do the connections on top of the service cap to remove the extra length on the wires inside the service cap and inspect the routing carefully to make sure nothing is in the wron place.
  2. Inspect the wiring in the source tray to see if there is evidence of sparking in a certain area.

Second round of testing Tuesday April 5 2022:

Much better results, seems most of the sparking was conditioning. Went right up to 42.5kV with no issues. Spent quite a while getting up to 50kV, and didn't leave it there for more than a couple mins. May be running into the limitations of the HV cage at this point. Bias current was much lower, something like 140uA at 45kV.

Third round of testing Wednesday April 6 2022:

Ramped easily back to 45kV, a little more sparking above that. Sat at 47kV for ~30mins with no sparks. Won't try to go higher in case of issues with the cage. Will try to condition up to 50kV in the station. Other than the possible low megger value between B and C, all looks good.

Entry  Monday, April 04, 2022, 10:44, Nadia Jorgenson, South Hot-Cell, Repair, , , Turntable Chain Repair Hot_Cell_Chain_1.jpgHot_Cell_Chain_2.jpg

Last week we repaired the South Hot Cell turntable chain/sprocket. Chain was loose and there was a few section where the chain was not lining up properly with the sprockets.

3 issues were discovered:

-        One of the pins was bent. It’s been replaced but is a temporary fix. Need to replace them with stronger pins.

-        The smaller sprockets near the motor were too far from the main turntable sprocket which was causing the links to not immediately line up with the teeth on the turntable sprocket. With too much slack in the chain, it’s likely that this is were the misalignment was starting. This was fixed by adjusting the motor position and the position of the yellow plate bolted to the floor.

-        The yellow plate that is bolted into the floor has oversized holes relative to the bolts/washers used. This allows us to adjust the position, but the washers are to thin and are being bent/pulled into the holes. Should be replaced with thicker washers that can withstand the tension and this will help prevent the plate from sliding out of position.

Entry  Friday, February 25, 2022, 10:22, Adam Newsome, South Hot-Cell, Development, , , Addition of E-Stops and Turntable Vertical Motion Limit Switch

Two changes have been made to the control system to the South Hot Cell:

  1. Addition of two emergency stop buttons: one located in the Target Hall on the wall adjacent to the hot cell, and one located on the control panel adjacent the operator station.
  2. Addition of limit switches to the turntable's vertical drive system to prevent over-travel at both the upper and lower limits.

The emergency stops will both stop all turntable motion: vertical and rotational.

An update to operating procedures: in order for the vertical motion system to function, the limit switch cable must be plugged in. When plugging in the vertical drive motor to the wall outlet as per normal operating procedure, it is now required to also connect the limit switch (which is mounted near the motor on the driveshaft) to the cable coming from the appropriately labelled junction box on the South wall (M12 connector).

These changes are based on electrical drawings IRH2083 - IRH2085 and mechanical assembly drawing ITA6739. The changes have been commissioned according to commissioning plan Document-218490. The commissioning report will be uploaded to DocuShare. The work permit for this upgrade was I2022-02-15--3.
