chad fisher | North Hot-Cell | Repair | | | Model N Remote Arm #9342 Tong Cable |
Model N remote arm serial #9342 tong cable has been un-jammed from between pulley 3D (see picture) and casting (this is an ongoing issue with #9342 and 9352) and cable restrung and exercised to check motion. Tong system is now functional but exhibits excessive slack. Next step will be to check tension of the elevation/twist cables and adjust the pulley block if required (this pulley block houses both the elevation twist cable pulleys and the tong cable pulley 3D which is the site of the persistent cable hop)...I suspect adjusting the tension here will at least slightly improve the slack. In addition I will also investigate repositioning the tong drum screws (the procedure used to adjust the tong opening). |

- Started voltage ramp up. Using 250 V increments.
Tuesday, February 04, 2025, 12:07
- Current has got a bit noisy, starting at around 56.5 kV.
- Currently at 57 kV. Voltage is stable though.
- Current is about 151 uA on average, with spikes up to 164 uA.
- Held at 57 kV for about 5 minutes, no drops in voltage, so continuing ramp.
- 57.25 kV
- There is noise in the current each time the voltage is increased. It seems to calm down slowly, with the later noise/spikes being less frequent and lower magnitude.
- Average current is about 151 uA. Spikes at the start were as high as 169 uA, and after about 8 minutes they are about 160 uA.
- Held here for about 10 minutes before continuing ramp.
- I will try to get to 58 kV, and then back down to 57 kV to see if the current calms down and there is some sort of conditioning effect. If there is, I'm not sure of the mechanism since nothing is in vacuum.
Tuesday, February 04, 2025, 12:51
- Dropping down to 57 kV, the current was about 150 uA and there were no more noise spikes. Seems like conditioning. Going back to 58 kV and continuing ramp.
Tuesday, February 04, 2025, 13:09
- At 60 kV. Average current is about 187 uA initially, which could just be the average of the noise. It looks like it's dropping a few minutes later. About 10 minutes later, the current is 184 uA. 181 uA after 20 minutes.
- It's been stable for about 30 minutes now. No voltage fluctuations, noise in the current has been the same or decreasing.
- Current is about 177 uA after 80 minutes.
Tuesday, February 04, 2025, 14:36
- It's been 1.5 hours and the voltage has been stable the whole time. All is good. Ramping down.
Tuesday, February 04, 2025, 14:50
- Power supply off

- Ed has the voltage already up to 1000 V. Starting further ramp up in 250 V increments.
Wednesday, February 05, 2025, 12:45
- Current was quite stable with basically no noise, and increasing with voltage until 57.5 kV, when the current spiked from 180 uA to a peak of 308 uA and the voltage dropped a little bit for a single data point. Kept it here for a few second and then dropped it back down a couple steps. Currently at 57 kV and the average current is about the same as before (181 uA), but the noise is significantly higher (+/- 10 uA).
- Been at 57 kV for about 5 minutes and no change in the noise. Will try continuing ramp.
- 57.25 kV: Current is ~193 uA with +/- 20 uA noise.
- Gonna go with 250 V step every 5 minutes from here on until 60 kV.

- Seemed like it was having some trouble at 58 kV, and then at 58.25 kV it was fine for about a minute and just starting sparking constantly, and would not calm down after a minute. Some sparks caused a positive voltage swing up to 65 kV, and with currents as high as ~4000 uA.
- Ramped voltage down in steps back to 56.75 kV. It's still getting about 10-11 sparks per 5 minutes.
- Trying 56.5 kV. 8 sparks in 5 minutes, one positive.
- Trying 56.25 kV. 3 very small voltage drops in 5 minutes.
- Trying 56 kV. No voltage drops in 5 minutes. Current is on average ~204 uA, with +/- 20 uA of noise.
Wednesday, February 05, 2025, 15:02
- 1.5 hours at 56 kV. 2 small sparks over this time. Current was about 195 uA on average with about +/- 20 uA of noise. A spark will usually result in a change of the average current following the spark until the next.
- Ramping down voltage now. The amount of noise decreases quickly with voltage and is basically gone at 53 kV.
- Power supply off.
- Dumped data to https://isacwserv.triumf.ca/onlylocal/isacdata/ITE_HV_test_shutdown2025.txt
Conclusion: ITE seems good up to 56 kV. |

chad fisher | South Hot-Cell | Repair | TM2 | | Conductor Block Insulator Replacement |
Ceramic conductor blocks ITD0053 and ITD0054 were replaced on TM2. Initially, only ITD0053 was to be replaced but after removing it it was noticed that ITD0054 (the larger conductor block behind it) was also broken, fractured through the helicoil that retained ITD0053 (see attached picture).
Both the old 53 and 54 fell into multiple pieces upon removal (see attached photo).
Fasteners holding 53 and 54 to the mounting plate and each other had loose washer on them. I have never seen this done before and, after checking drawing ITA3560 (extraction column Assembly) and confirming they have not been called out, I removed them before reinstalling.

David Wang | ITW/ITE | Standard Operation | | | target pit CAD filter replacement in TH. |
Plant Group Gabril.T organized a target pit CAD filter replacement and testing yesterday. My group helped on this job. small 3T hoist was used for the job.Still the filter needs to be pushed manually on crane to south into position because of crane access limit on south. The replacement job went well. Later, Gabril reported his test result is good as well.

After waste transfer, I did a SHC field measurement from TH through top flange opening. The general field around manipulator maintenance working area is 550 to 650 usv/hr(0.4 to 0.5 meters above table). some area on work table where target fragile material stayed before have 1.0 to 1.3 m/sv (closing to contact measurement). The spreading of target material dusts deposited on table, and affected the whole cell field in my view. |
