Entry  Thursday, October 26, 2017, 09:56, Anders Mjos, ITE, Repair, TM4, SiC#37, Leak on multi pin connector feedthrough

On maintenance day Tuesday, the roughing of the target station could not go below 1.5 Torr. A brief troubleshooting on Tuesday was unsuccessful in determining the cause. Leak checking continued on Wednesday by David and Anders. A leak was finally found on the multi pin connector feedthrough due to the seal between the connector and flange on top of the nylon insulator. Upon re-tightening the connector, the leak could be stopped and the module pumped down to allow starting of turbo pumps.

The Source tray was inspected in the RH shop today by Anders, Friedhelm and Jens. The routing of the lines are satisfactory, however a design proposal to remove the ground electrode line will be made. This design will have to ensure a proper connection from the electrode to ground (using the window cooling lines). All other lines are OK at this point. Some fine adjustments are expected after brazing and soldering to maintain high voltage separation. Photos are available on DocuShare Collection-21401

Yesterday Aaron, Isaac and Anders inspected the EZL connection from the service chase to the optics tray using the goose neck camera in SHC. No issues or shorts could be identified. Containment box was not removed.

Today David and Anders opened up two panels on the service cap and inspected the EZL connection. No issues or shorts could be identified. Photos available on DocuShare.

Next step will likely be to remove the containment box and inspect the optics tray.

The containment box was removed yesterday. One of the main insulators on the source tray had cracked at the rear close to the bolt to the source tray mounting plate (see photos using link above)

Troubleshooting continued this morning with disconnection of the optics tray from the module. The banana plug copper tube connection was removed form the optics tray side. With the connection removed, the measurement showed open line on top of the module indicating that the problem is on the optics tray
