2021-05-20: 5 spent targets have been loaded into F308's. We transferred two more spent targets into mini storage this morning for next week loading.

2217   Tuesday, May 25, 2021, 15:59 Matthew GareauNorth Hot-CellDevelopment  Removed boot from left hot manipulator

Myself and Isaac removed the boot from the left hot manipulator.

- opened the hatch in the TH to get access to the top of the boot

- released the latch on the boot and loosened the boot from above

- closed TH hatch

- with the right manipulator we were able to detach the rest of boot

This test proved that we can remove a boot from the manipulator without having to enter into the hotcell.

Due to the physical restraints that the boot causes for the operator, we have decided to not reattach the boot with its current design.

A new design will be investigated to allow the boot to be fixed without twisting, which is the source of the problems.

2231   Wednesday, July 07, 2021, 11:59 Adam NewsomeSafe Module ParkingMaintenance  Annual Electrical and Mechanical Inspection

An annual electrical and mechanical inspection was performed on the SMP today by Adam Newsome, Dan McDonald, and Jason Zhang as per Work Permit I2021-07-07-3. The following items were checked:

  • Check condition of wiring for physical/radiation/UV damage
    • OK, no signs of significant damage
  • Check for cable tray debris or damage
    • There were multiple shards of plastic in the cable tray - they were removed and disposed of
  • Check inside control panel: components and wiring, labeling
    • Labeling intact, components in good condition
    • One COM wire for the relay array was loose - it was tightened
  • Verify camera views
    • This was not inspected but has recently been checked, and is checked prior to remote operation
  • Check connectors for damage
    • All connectors OK
  • Check pendant for damage and verify labeling intact
    • Pendant OK
  • Lid open/close test
    • Lid was opened and close multiple times - smooth operation, no concern
    • Lid close logic was checked - OK
  • Vessel rotation and limit switch check
    • Both CW and CCW limits were checked, functioning
    • No concern on rotation - chain drive, rotary limit switch, and cable reel all functioning normally
  • Lubricate chains
    • Done
  • Inspect tensioners
    • Done - OK
  • Tighten fasteners
    • Done - OK
    • Note: some concern over socket head screws in slotted parts - they should have washers. Not a critical issue but worth checking into.
  • Visual inspection
    • All OK

Overall the inspection was successful.

2241   Wednesday, August 11, 2021, 11:15 Adam NewsomeSpent Target VaultDevelopment  Mini-Storage: Cable track for e-chain installed

A cable track was installed between the mini-storage vault and the silos, for the purpose of implementing a retractable cable chain (e-chain). This will allow for cables to be managed during door opening/closing, so that remote control operation of the door will be possible in the future. See Work Permit I2021-08-11-2 (Aug 11)

Holes were drilled into the motor mounting plate (IRH2089) to allow for mounting a limit switch on the plate. See Work Permit I2021-08-17-7 (Aug 17)

Preliminary testing was completed in which the e-chain was fixed to the door with a C-clamp. Local and remote functionality were checked, and limit switch functionality was verified. Everything is working as expected. A final test will be conducted once the e-chain is fixed to the door and cabling routed through it. See Work Permit I2021-08-19-1 (Aug 19)

The e-chain has not yet been fixed to the vault door - holes will be drilled in-situ after preliminary testing is complete to confirm positioning.

Edit [2021-09-23]: the installation is complete and has been tested.

2250   Thursday, September 23, 2021, 19:04 Adam NewsomeSpent Target VaultDevelopment  Mini-Storage: Remote Capability

Remote capability was added for the mini-storage door control. The control signals originate from the Opto 22 Module box that is used for the SMP remote control (this is located just above the storage vault).
The controls signal assignment document has been updated and can be found in C:\PDM Vault\PDM_Vault\_models\isac\isac1\wpn-3919 - safe module parking\Electrical

In order to operate remotely:
- Plug the mini-storage control box power cable into a wall outlet (adjacent main storage vault, under stairs)
- Plug the motor output cable into the mini-storage door motor
- Unplug the local pendant from the box
- Plug the cable that comes from the remote module box into the connector that the pendant was plugged into (M12, 5 pole Murr connector)
- Using the remote control program from the ISAC RH control room, click on the Mini-Storage option and then click buttons for open and close to operate the door (note: it is important to verify both opening and closing functions work before attempting any remote operation).

Remote and local functionality have been tested and verified working.

It is recommended to mount the mini-storage control box in a convenient area near the mini-storage (possibly on the wall adjacent the main storage vault).

Please contact me if you have any further questions.
