Monday, October 17, 2022, 08:07, David Wang, ITE/ITW, Repair, TM4, , A small leak on target station secondaryvacuum back up line by ITH MP1S.
|
A small leak in target station secondary vacuum back up line is observed. It affects ITH CG2S,CG1S and CG4SA. Current draw on TP1s and TP4S is getting higher(above 1A) because of it. An internal leak in ITH MP1S is suspected by first round investigation. Close watching on system and further investigation are needed. |

17-Oct-2022 Comment by David Wang: On OCt 14th, Replaced a flexible hose on MP1S pump exhaust port, but did not solve the issue. High frequency vibration was sensed by hand on MP1S pump inlet and outlet ports. Pump height and position in pit are adjusted slightly in pit to reduce vibration. After, ITHCG2 and ITW CG4SA got a huge improvement in past 3 days. All back up line pressure are stabilized at normal operation status. Still, close watching on this issue is needed to ensure the present status is stabilized in long term.
The issue was returned after shielding block installation Monday morning at 8:30am. Investigated further, I temporarily installed a turbopump used cooling fan on MP1s to improve pump heat dissipation. And a room fan is put outside on shielding blocks opening hole to increase air circulation into pit. Since then, everything is perfect. All secondary turbo pumps current draw is around 0.5 to 0.6A which is the best. I guess that short duo 10 pump life we observed in past could be related to high pump operation temperature in pit as well. We may increase the pump life if air circulation around the pump could be improved. A permanent solution is needed for it. |

ITW and TM2 primary and secondary vacuum vessel leak check is done. Leak detector is connected to ITW TP1. Base leak rate on leak detector is 0.0 x E-9 atm.cc/sec. See attachment for the result. No big issue. Two old leaks we found last year at location D and E disappeared in this check. We did Vacseal resin spray on them last year. It looks like the Vacseal spray works . From the result , I can see the o-ring between exit 1 module and T - flange is closing to the end of the life. There are two small leaks on this o-ring now at A and B location. We plan to change this o-ring next winter shut down. We do vacseal spray on them this year. The big O-ring between tank vessel and T -flange looks still ok. Two small leaks are found on location F and G on this O-ring. Not much we can do on them. The leak on location C and B were sprayed with resin yesterday after leak check. They are leak free after spray on check. I will double check them. Leak on location A will be resin sprayed after TM2 is removed and ITW is under vacuum. All TM2 internal water-cooling lines are helium pressurized (70 psi) for 5 minutes each. HS shows 2.5 X E-9atm.cc/sec leak rate. The rest lines are 0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec. |

Wednesday, January 25, 2023, 06:52, David Wang, ITE, Standard Operation, TM4, UCx#41, ITE primary and secondary vacuum vessel air to vacuum seals leak check.
|
ITE primary and secondary vacuum vessel air to vacuum seals leak check was done this week. One leak has been found on IG1S feed through to entrance module surface seal. It explains what we saw on ITE IG1S readings change(from low E-7 torr to 1Xe-6 torr) on December 22, 2022. This leak seal will be replaced soon.
2023-Jan -27. O-ring seal 229# was replaced on ITEIG1S feedthrough to entrance module surface sealing. Also o-ring seal 034# was replaced on the blank off cover beside the feed through to entrance module surface sealing. Since these o-rings are too close to each other. It is better to replace both of them to avoid misreading in leak check. |

In past two weeks, ITW/ ITE primary vacuum back up lines and BVs in ITW/ITE pit have been leak checked. ITW BV1 and BV2 on back up line side were leak. They are replaced with old leak free BVs. ITE TP2 NW25 SST flexible line right after pump were leak . It is replaced with new NW25 SST flexible line. Two leak were found on ITW side KF 50 O-rings connected to NW 50 SST flexible coupling. They were replaced with new KF50 o-rings. After job, both stations primary back up lines in pit were leak checked . They are good. |
