Vented in air and removed from evap2 this a.m.

Weirdly TGHT had tripped off at 10pm on friday June 16th

TGHT = 58A when it tripped off.

Nothing else tripped.

Power supply was still on.

Water was still running

But, in the epics water control box it showed green boxes for TGHT, HS and CHILLER...but all said trip in yellow next to the boxes...odd...

Also noted, before removing from evap2, noticed both legs were bent and touching heat shield, will look further into this...

TGHT reached to 350A/5.5V, temp @ 1270C - much lower than expected; could be a short between the target container and the heat shield.  I actually had a had time adjusting the target legs to avoid shorting the cu-heat shield.

Tapped TGHT further up to 375A/6.07V, Omega Temp at 1340C.  Holding current for about 50 mins, re-measured with pyrometer - temperature matches.

Wednesday, July 12, 2017, 14:49

TGHT set at 450A/7.7A.  Temp at ~1550C.  See attachment for temp plot

Holding at temp for 5 days before cooling down on Monday July 17.

 Thursday, July 13, 2017, 17:52

TGHT tripped off due to bad IEVAP2:WFB1 water flow.  Not sure what was the cause.  Will leave the heater off for now and investigate this tomorrow.

 Friday, July 14, 2017, 11:48

Investigated the bad water flow situation.  It was due to a faulty water flow sensor.  The paddle wheel stopped turning until I gave it a tab.  We had a similar problem before with the water sensor, see elog ID 109.  It is probably the time to replace all the water sensors.

evap2 tripped twice yesterday.

1st trip) there was a power bump which caused a trip at ~4:20pm, this can be seen in the striptool image attached.

-TGHT spiked to zero, but immediately went back to the ~420A it was sitting at at the time.

-This did not initiate a full trip of everything, but a visual spike in the system can be seen

-Oddly this was not picked up in archives - happened so fast and must have been in the small time frame it was not picking up information

-Did TGHT actually drop to zero followed by then applying an immediate 420A?

-Or did it simple not register a reading due to power bump?

2nd trip) IGP1 stopped communicating at ~5:45pm, this can be seen in both the archives, striptool and evap2 control screenshot images attached

-IGP1 was fine, vacuum was good

-Registering good vacuum in epics - can see in screen shot vacuum was still good but IGP1 turned yellow as if turned off

-This resulted in TP followed by BV tripping off due to no longer getting a vacuum reading making the TP think there was a bad vacuum.

-Possible miscommunication with PLC?

-This is the same scenario that happened on mon - see elog i.d. 381

Will follow up when more information acquired...

 Thursday, November 23, 2017, 13:09

Removed from evap2 this morning.

Coating looks good.

  393   Thursday, November 23, 2017, 15:10 Laura Lambert 41882-4TARGET BOATDoneGraphite insert test

 Thursday, November 23, 2017, 14:54

Graphite insert loaded into previously TaC coated target boat.

One endcap removed to allow for outgassing: left side out, right side in.

Weight of graphite tube + single endcap = 10.2012g

Same Ta heats shields remain on container from sintering TaC coating.

Currently pumping down in evap2.

Friday, November 24, 2017, 11:31

IGP1 = 4.52e-7 Torr

IGP2 = 3.43e-7 Torr

OMEGA slope = 0.98

Good vac at 3.0e-4, bad vac at 8.0e-4 Torr.

HS water valves have remained open since the last time evap2 was used.

No leak check done.

Tapped up manually to 50A.

Vacuum stable.

IGP1 = 5.34e-7 Torr

IGP2 = 5.54e-7 Torr

Initiating auto ramp for TGHT @ 0.2A/min to a max setpoint of 300A

Once max setpoints achieved, will tap up manually to final desired temperature of 2000C

Uranium targets go to a max temperature of 1950C online, so graphite insert should be tested to 2000C

 Monday, November 27, 2017, 10:15

IGP1 = 2.5e-7 Torr

IGP2 = 1.9e-7 Torr

Reached 300A, 4.61V

OMEGA = 1298C

Tapped up manually to 485A, 8.46V

OMEGA = 1808C

Remained at this setpoint for a day

Tuesday, November 28, 2017, 15:41

IGP1 = 3.88e-7 Torr

IGP2 = 3.58e-7 Torr

Tapping up to 2000C...

Tuesday, November 28, 2017, 16:10

TGHT = 570A, 10.20V

OMEGA = 2005C

IGP1 = 9.64e-7 Torr

IGP2 = 1.05e-6 Torr

There was a minor drop in voltage at 540A, 9.58V - dropped to ~9.4V then slowly went back up to 9.58V [see photo]

Will remain at this setpoint overnight and cool down in the a.m.

 Wednesday, November 29, 2017, 08:48

IGP2 = 6.5e-7 Torr

Initiating auto-cool at 2.0A/min

 Wednesday, November 29, 2017, 16:15

Vented in air and removed today.

Will update tomorrow with results and photos.

 Thursday, December 07, 2017, 09:57

Each endcap is wrapped in a separate piece of graphite foil and placed in a target boat.

There are also 4 coated springs, 2 on each side of the stack of endcaps.

The boat is wrapped with 3-layers of Ta heatshields.

Chamber pumped down overnight.

OMEGA slope = 0.98

HS water valves opened, no leaks detected.

IGP1 = 5.9e-7 Torr

IGP2 = 4.0e-7 Torr

Tapping up manually.

Final desired temperature = 1800C

TGHT tripped off.

Turns out the vacuum limits have not been fully updated when they should have been and the old ones still apply.

IGP1 reached 8e-5 Torr which tripped off the system.

TGHT = 80A, 1.05V when the system tripped.
