David Wang | Conditioning Station | Repair | TM3 | | sparking on TM3 serice cap top. |
Sparking was found this morning inside HV cover on TCS in TH while TM3 was HV conditioning at TCS. The TCS bias was set to 50KV when I found this spark. It sparks between HV cover front side wall to a KF 25 clamp on HS water terminal. The KF 25clamp is used in this situation on HS water line top because the HS line is opened inside module, and we need a vacuum seal on the top of this line. Actually, The clap is much smaller than the corona ring on HS terminal, and the corona ring is more close to side wall. But there is a 90 degree straight corner on this clam. So the spark happened between the side wall and this 90degree corner on the clamp. We can not change the clap now since it will break vacuum. So, we decide to do HV test without HV cover installed onTM3 at TCS. A work permit is issued for this. Lock out procedure: Document-70039 is clarified in WP. |

Keith C Ng | Assembly/Bench Test | Standard Operation | | | spare source tray build alignment |
Spare source tray build continued.
Initial alignment check in the morning:
- Target mounting plate target: Horizontal: .002, Vertical: -.002
- Ground electrode (bore) target, with un-clamped target: H 0.0 V -.003
- Ground electrode target (with target clamped): H: 0.0, V: .010
@14:10: sighting Master target position WRT sighting axis, calculated using the edges of the brunson target center circle edges calculated to center. Target circle is .02" in diameter.
- Master target mounted with slight finger torque.
- Front of master target, H .002 V -.002
- Rear of master target, H: 0.0 V: .005 (circle target is .020" in diameter)
- Rear of ground electrode target, H: .002, V: 0.011
@14:49: Replace mount plate target.
- Target mounting plate target: H -.001, V .001
- Ground electrode target: H .002, V .011 (rear target was rotated 90 deg from in the morning as a check)
@15:21 Steerer cone re-alignment.
- Undid the six screws holding the steerer cone and steerers to the aluminum flange and adjusted cone tip to RIB axis. The ground electrode bore was deemed not to be adjustable to the RIB axis with the current build order.
*Steerer cone assembly torque is 23 in-lbs
- Steerer cone target, H: .001, V: 0.0
- Steerer cone target, H: .002, V: .002 (after rotating target 180 degrees)
@15:30 Replaced target mounting plate target.
- Mounting plate target, H: .001, V: -0.001
Will go ahead and finish mounting components to mounting plate and final check the alignment after. |

Keith C Ng | Assembly/Bench Test | Development | | | spare source tray build |
After re zeroing alignment telescope to master jig and adjusted parts into place:
Orientation: X = Left -, Right+; Y = Up +, Down -
Front wire target
X = 0.000, Y = 0.000
Rear wire target
X = 0.000, Y = +.008" (high)
All fasteners torqued to specification, steerer housing and assembly not installed yet. Weight of steerer assembly might cause rear to sag into place. Otherwise may attempt to split difference between the front and rear elements (alignment is on an angle in the horizontal vertical plane.) |

Keith C Ng | Assembly/Bench Test | Standard Operation | | | source tray alignment/build |
Source tray is complete for brazing, gas line bracket is currently missing but can be made in parallel with tube bending operations.
Source tray water lines to be fabricated according to ITA6144 drawing set.
- Alignment between target mounting plate and steerer cone is holding within .002"
- Aluminum soldering jigs are installed in place of the ceramics with fasteners only torqued just past "finger tight". |

David Wang | Conditioning Station | Standard Operation | TM4 | | small leak on TM4 Ta(-) water line. |
A small leak has been found on TM4 Ta(-) which is marked as "B" on terminal blocks. The LD base Leak rate is 1.2XE-8 atm.cc/sec. 70psi helium has been applied to Ta(-) water line for 3minutes. The leak rate went up to 2.5xE-6 atm.cc/sec and stabilized there. Anders found a helium response on RGA helium reading during the same time. This confirms the leak is real. Other lines are leak checked today also. They are good still. All TM4 water lines were leak checked in ITE in 2017 January. They were all good at 0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec. See attachment e-log. |

Carla Babcock | South Hot-Cell | Repair | TM3 | TiC#8 | short on multipin wires to TBHT discovered |
With the new TiC#8 target installed on TM3, there was a ~7kOhm connection between TGHT/TBHT (A/B/C/D) and HV common. The standard electrical check on the module showed standard values, so it was assumed the problem was inside the target.
Started removing bolts/water connections one by one to see if any of them had an effect on the measurement. Found that disconnecting the multipin on the target from the mating connector on the source tray resolved the issue. Determined that the only way this could happen is if a spark cut through the insulation covering the multipin wires. Because of the way they are routed, they can touch the water lines and they are definitely touching waterline C, TBHT-. We do not typically check continuity of multipins to all water lines, just to HVC, so did not see this in the standard electrical check. Measurements verified that pin 2-4 was touching water line C, creating a short from TGHT/TBHT to HV common when the multipin connector is attached, since the pins are shorted to HVC inside the connector when they are not used.
Issue was solved by removing the target into the ante room, removing connector 1 all together since it was not used, and removing the grounding on the other pins, leaving only pin 2-2 connected for the anode.
In future we will change the IGLIS wiring so pin 2-4 is not used, and redesign the cable routing so it cannot touch the blocks. For the immediate term, we will add to the electrical check a check of each pin to TBHT/TGHT/COIL. |
