On each water circuit in side the service cap, there are 4 soldering stems which two of them are inside blue nylon insulator and other two are connected to service tray. Each stem has two soldering spots. See attachment pictures for detail location. I sprayed 15 psi helium on each soldering spots on stems  for 20second on each circuit. I sprayed tons of helium inside each blue nylon.No any leak has been found during the check. The leak detector base leak rate:0.0 XE-9 atm.cc/sec, base pressure:0.0X E-4 torr. The circuit which I checked are :TA+, Ta-, Tube+, Tube-, PQ (coil 2), RU( coil1), EE, MSP, GE. The HS and window circuit are opened at this moment so they can not be checked.

A silo and blue steel frame are removed out of TH this morning. They are transferred  through ante room, and moved to experimental hall TM assembly area for a long term storage. Swipes are done on the silo and frame before and during move. No contamination has been found .

All fasteners torqued to specification, steerer housing and assembly not installed yet. Weight of steerer assembly might cause rear to sag into place. Otherwise may attempt to split difference between the front and rear elements (alignment is on an angle in the horizontal vertical plane.)

Initial alignment check in the morning:

 

- Target mounting plate target: Horizontal: .002, Vertical: -.002

- Ground electrode (bore) target, with un-clamped target: H 0.0 V -.003

- Ground electrode target (with target clamped): H: 0.0, V: .010

 

 

@14:10: sighting Master target position WRT sighting axis, calculated using the edges of the brunson target center circle edges calculated to center. Target circle is .02" in diameter.

 

- Master target mounted with slight finger torque.

- Front of master target, H .002 V -.002

- Rear of master target, H: 0.0 V: .005 (circle target is .020" in diameter)

- Rear of ground electrode target, H: .002, V: 0.011

 

 

@14:49: Replace mount plate target.

 

- Target mounting plate target: H -.001, V .001

- Ground electrode target: H .002, V .011 (rear target was rotated 90 deg from in the morning as a check)

 

 

@15:21 Steerer cone re-alignment.

 

- Undid the six screws holding the steerer cone and steerers to the aluminum flange and adjusted cone tip to RIB axis. The ground electrode bore was deemed not to be adjustable to the RIB axis with the current build order.

*Steerer cone assembly torque is 23 in-lbs

- Steerer cone target, H: .001, V: 0.0

- Steerer cone target, H: .002, V: .002 (after rotating target 180 degrees)

 

 

@15:30 Replaced target mounting plate target.

 

- Mounting plate target, H: .001, V: -0.001


Will go ahead and finish mounting components to mounting plate and final check the alignment after.

Source tray is complete for brazing, gas line bracket is currently missing but can be made in parallel with tube bending operations.

Source tray water lines to be fabricated according to ITA6144 drawing set.

- Alignment between target mounting plate and steerer cone is holding within .002"

- Aluminum soldering jigs are installed in place of the ceramics with fasteners only torqued just past "finger tight".

The Source tray was inspected in the RH shop today by Anders, Friedhelm and Jens. The routing of the lines are satisfactory, however a design proposal to remove the ground electrode line will be made. This design will have to ensure a proper connection from the electrode to ground (using the window cooling lines). All other lines are OK at this point. Some fine adjustments are expected after brazing and soldering to maintain high voltage separation. Photos are available on DocuShare Collection-21401

Attached alignment check notes after brazing and fabrication.

First page lower half shows establishment of baseline using master jig

Second page top half shows the alignment of the target mounting plate jig and the steerer cone aperture.

Second page bottom half shows alignment of the master target jig. Master target jig needed the 9 pin and heat shield locating features removed to seat the target correctly.

Overall, source tray assembly sits .006" high on average (min .003", max .010"), .003" to the left with respect to ion beam axis.

Feibiad gas line for ITE and its adapter fittings for TM2 are tested today by installing them on a dummy water stem. No leak on VCO fitting, adapter o-rings, and all Swagelock fittings of this assembly. Manual valve on gas line works fine.  The positional check on gas line between TM2 and ITW will be fulfilled next Tuesday during module disconnection.

The second module lifting assembly ITA0490 is moved into TH and installed onto TM3 . It will stay with TM3. I adjusted the  CofG on the assembly. It is same to the first lifting assembly we are using now. After adjustment, The installation of assembly on TM3 are smooth.

Old resin can:  0.5 meter 360 degree rotation above silo area, 350u sv/hr.   On contact  3.0 to 3.5 msv/hr.  It was replaced during 2017 winter shut down, and stored in silo since then.

2a window RH clamp: 0.5 meter, 160 usv/hr.  On contact, hottest spot 3.5msv/hr, general,1.8 msv/hr. 

 Both of them were raise out of storage silo with TH crane. Pole monitor was used for field check.

TM3 old source tray, old target hall high active water resin tank, and  old 2A window RH clamp are transferred from TH to cyclotron lower vault basement 10 and 10A location for storage. They are placed beside and in front of old TM1 and TM2 source tray boxes which stored there in 2018.

Edi and I inspected roughing pump ITM MP1, primary backup pump ITHMP1, and secondary backup pump ITHMP2. We checked oil level and color on all pumps.  Refilled lubricant to ITMMP1. ITHMP1 and MP2 oil level is fine. ITH MP1 oil color is darker than MP2. But, both them are ok still. Shielding block has been restored after the job.

A fully built steerer sub assembly ITA2826 revision E was boxed and sealed and put on rack storage in ISAC B2 South Hot Cell area. It is contained in a blue bin and green tag. 

It is advised if this assembly is used, it should be inspected for damage before using in a source tray.

Five of used  internal leaked  TP BVs are serviced and repaired. Internal plunge  o-ring and case o-ring are replaced on all five BVs. Leak checked valves after  . They are ok to be used as spare parts.  The are active parts stored in TH now.

The spent target assaying turntable was repaired. It was tested today with a load exceeding the maximum it would need to handle during rotation (100 kg). It works as expected and is ready for operation.

  2460   Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 12:37 Adam NewsomeAssembly/Bench TestDevelopment  Modifications to wire ropes for pails within existing F-308s

Based on a request from CNL (attached), modifications were made to the wire ropes protruding through the tops of F-308s to add a crimped loop which acts as a lifting feature. Tests were performed (report attached) on 10 sample units to validate the strength of these loops, since each loop could not be tested in-situ once the pails were already packed in F-308s. CNL has reviewed and approved the test report.

Wire ropes within the following F-308s, which were staged for shipping as of June 20, 2023, were modified to include the lifting loop:

  1. 06
  2. 13
  3. 15
  4. 16
  5. 19
  6. 20
  7. 21
  8. 22

Each lifting loop was:

  • Crimped according to the same procedure, using the same parts and tools, as the 10 sample units
  • Measured using a tape measure to confirm the 3" size specified by CNL
  • Checked using a go/no-go gauge provided from the crimp tool manufacturer
  • "Pull tested" by hand as a quick check to confirm the crimps were successful (not a quantitative and official test, but a secondary qualitative "feel good" check)

As of the time of writing this e-log, TRIUMF believes these F-308s to be ready to ship.
