TM1 was moved from SHC to the TCS. The mode took roughly 1 hour. During the move the north east corner of the containment box caught slightly on the flange of the vacuum vessel and then slipped off. The contact was minimal but should none the less be noted. After sliding off of the flange the module did not crash into the other sides of the vacuum vessel, this is why I believe the contact was minimal. It should be noted that the corner of concern is the one that is most difficult to see.

In the AM today David and I used the crane to raise the ground plate sheet metal into place. This afternoon when I attempted to return the crane to its usual place I discovered that the crane no longer worked. Upon further inspection it appears that the PLC has lost power. I will follow up on this Monday morning. The crane is not supporting any load at this point.

Turns out I am just not very observant. David had turned the main break to the crane off as a result when he turned it back on this morning the crane magically started working again.

TM4 with NiO#1 was moved from ITE to the SHC today. The move went well with no issues.

  195   Tuesday, October 09, 2012, 14:53 Bevan MossConditioning StationDevelopmentTM4UCx#5Module Move

TM4 was remote moved from the SCH to the TCS today. This was the first time the module was moved with the framework for the cage in place. The ion gauge on the service cap is closer to the cage than anticipated and as a result the pins for the gauge were sheared off. Discussion as to how to repair the gauge (both short term and long term needs to be had). We will try and rough down the TM tonight, it is not believed the vacuum will be affected.

  242   Wednesday, February 06, 2013, 14:34 Bevan MossConditioning StationDevelopmentTM4CS Test Target #140kV All Common w/o Water Test

Today the module was biased to 40kV in the conditioning station. The current draw was 0uA. Sparking started at 27 kV. I have attached the recording from the strip tool of the vacuum while we were testing. After consulting Pierre if we should take the module to a higher voltage it was decided not to. The purpose of this test we to check the interaction between the module, cover, new cooling line, EE and EINZEL cables. This test was considered a success and although there are no anticipated problems care should be taken when taking the module past 40kV for the first time.

 Hello Ray and Yi

Completed a HV test with the water flowing today.

8.96 Mohm

56.4 PSI across the load

16.5 GPM through the loads

some sparking occurred see attached file.

module was biased with all items tied to common to 40kV. Leakage current was less than 100uA.

This was a very successful test.

  247   Friday, February 22, 2013, 13:13 Bevan MossConditioning StationDevelopmentTM4CS Test Target #1Broken Turbo Pump

Today while putting the cover on the cord that goes to the controller was bumped. This bent the connector down and caused a vacuum leak. I tried to tighten the bolts in the hope the leak would go away but it did not and I sheared one of the bolts off. David is inquiring with Edi if the pump can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced. The good news is that the interlocks work exactly as planned. Upon detecting a leak they shut the turbos down and closed all of the valves they even beat the turbo controllers for overload.

David believes we can rotate the pump slightly to avoid this problem in the future. Hopefully repairs can start on Monday.

The conditioning station will be shut down for the weekend.

Today David and I moved the module from ITE to the SHC. Move went very smoothly, David operated the cameras and has had basic training in how to manually lock out the controls.

Dave Morris and I investigated the Faraday Cup today. It was found to be plumed in the wrong direction (fails in). This is not an issue for the conditioning station as there is nothing down stream from the cup. Dave will change the controls to reflect this.

TM4 with CS Test Target #1 was moved from the SHC to the Conditioning Station. All went well. The welding cables came a little close to the cage, David will bend them in more in the future.

The conductivity of the cooling package is above 5Mohm which is the minimum limit for the PS. This was achieved at 11:55. See attached picture.

  267   Monday, March 18, 2013, 12:03 Bevan MossConditioning StationRepairTM4CS Test Target #1Turbo Pump 1 Failure and Venting

Over the weekend Turbo pump one failed. It was attempted to restart the turbo in soft start but that also failed. Although the Vacuum was good enough to operate both Turbos are required to pass commissioning. As such the pumps were turned off at ~10:00 today. Venting started at 12:00.

  268   Monday, March 18, 2013, 12:39 Bevan MossConditioning StationRepairTM4CS Test Target #1TGHT PS Failure

The Model of the Power Supply (PS) is TSQLG 480-20/1500 and serial number is 2755.02.01.01.09.

We went to test the PS and supplied the required 480V and turned the local switch to on. At this point nothing happened, the controls screen didn’t light up nothing. We tried to run the PS in remote mode as that is what it had previously been set at and again there was no response. At this point I called the electrician the check that we were in fact supplying 480V. He checked all the way to the contactor inside of the PS (see attached picture). He also checked the 3 larger fuses and 6 smaller ones, they have not failed.

I have inquired with Jens Lassen who is more familiar with these PS and he has not had this issue before. He is going to have another look at the PS with the electrician specifically checking the 24VDC for the control board. Any further information or checks you could provide would be very helpful.

This PS is needed for commissioning of a system and unfortunately this failure has come at a very in opportune time.  Although the PS is show to be several years old we have not actually used it aside from some minor tests ie does it turn on (it has previously).  I have phoned the manufacture to determine what else can be check and what the next steps are. Werner requested that I send an email (completed) so he could give it to their engineers.

Turbo Pumps have been started and are in normal operation. TP1 which has recently been replaced was started in soft start and had no issues. TP2 was started normally and tripped prior to reaching speed. It was left for a while and restarted. When restarted it was still at 17KRPM, it reached normal operation.
