John Wong | Empty | 38634-3 | LP-SIS | Done | Sintering TaC coating for UCx#2 | Monday, July 18, 2011, 15:53: Target oven was coated with TaC and let dry over the weekend. The target is now installed in the evaporator and currently being pumped down. No Ta-heat shields are required for LP target ovens.
Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 11:42: Evaporator had to be vented to remove the target because Ta-heat shields were actually required for UCx target at 2uA p+. Target heater was never turned on. After removing the target oven, it was rolled around Ta wire; this prevent the Ta foil to stick on the oven. Then 3 Ta-heat shields were wrapped around it, plus 2 shields on the back block. The evaporator has been pumped down over night, currently vac @ 1.30e-6 Torr.
Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 12:35: TGHT stepped up to 110A, pressure began to increase exponentially. Brought THGT down to 100A. Will being auto cooling soon.
Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 12:48: Auto heating beings. 2A/min, max current @ 520A.
Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 17:49: TGHT reached to 520A. Increased heater to 570A according to last year UCx procedures.
Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 19:46: TGHT held at 570A for about 2 hours. Cooling down has begun. Set rate at 0.5A/min for slow cool down.
Thursday, July 21, 2011, 12:20 : TGHT cooling rate increased to 2A/min at about 10:25 am. At 10:55am, TGHT p/s tripped off, and the water valve was closed. Not sure what was the reason. Rest p/s and water valve, and turned back the p/s and continue to cool down from 74A. (see attachment#1: striptool)
Thursday, July 21, 2011, 14:45 : TGHT off, chamber about to be vented into atmosphere. |

Target oven is filled with 240 discs of SiC/C, and wrapped with 3 Ta-foils.
Tot mass= 31.95g (SiC + C foil + Org)
Tot length packed @ 8.2cm
Target was installed in the chamber yesterday and has been pumped down to low 10e-6 torr.
Increased TGHT to 70A and vacuum is starting to rise, currently at 2.6e-6 Torr.
Max target current = 820A or until there is no further reaction.
Tuesday, May 08, 2012, 08:55
Pressue is slowly coming down after heating for a while at 70A.
Initiated auto heating at 0.5A/min. Parameter set for increasing current if <4.0e-5 torr, and backing off if >5.0e-5 torr.
Wednesday, May 09, 2012, 10:31
There seems to be a pipe leakage in the ISAC-I B2 level, and the cooling water for the evaporator #1 is connected to the pipe.
The TGHT was tapped down from 115A, and the p/s was turned off. The water valve is now shut, and Curtis B. is looking into it.
Wednesday, May 09, 2012, 13:44
As per Curtis, the drainage pipe was leaky, and it has been fixed. The evaporator is now turned back on. TGHT was tabbed up to 115A, and has remained at that current for an hour. The pressure is slowly raising, current at 4.6e-6 Torr.
Wednesday, May 09, 2012, 14:24
Initiated TGHT...
Saturday, May 12, 2012, 23:38
TGHT is ramping up very slowly (currently at 270A) due to pressure restriction. It has already taken over 4 days. (see attachment 1: TGHT 0_270A)
Changed the parameter to <5.0e05 Torr for stepping up in current and >6.0e-5 Torr for backing off current.
Sunday, May 13, 2012, 20:44
Pressure has started to come down to 3e-6 Torr. Increased heating rate from 0.5A/min to 1.0A/min.
Monday, May 14, 2012, 01:09
TGHT has reached to 820A and been holding at that current for about 3hr. The pressure is coming down steadily, currently at 1.6e-5 Torr.
Asked ISAC OPS (Ed P.) to initial the auto-cool down at 03:00h, at 2A/min.
The target should be ready by 10:00h.
Monday, May 14, 2012, 10:56
TGHT is now at 0A (see attachment 2). The chamber is now being vented. The target will be inspected.
Thursday, May 17, 2012, 12:51

Theses endcaps (4) were previously sinterred in Evap#2 but some surfaces were not fully sinterred. (See Evaporator2 E-log ID119: https://elog.triumf.ca/TIS/Evaporator_2/119)
The endcaps are inserted in a target boat wrapped with 3 heat-shields.
Chamber is currently being pumped down.
TGHT will be rampped up to 580A and heat for >4hrs.

IGP1 = 9.2e-7 Torr.
TGHT was stepped up to 35A and stabilized after half an hour.
Auto-ramp initiated at 2.0A/min, max setpoint = 580A.
Vacuum started to climb too fast, auto-ramp aborted.
Will step up manually...

Anders Mjos | Empty | | | Maintenance | Re-sealing of Glove Box | 2011-09-01:
- Glove box was leaking (air/argon) between base and box. Light was shining through.
- Removed old neoprene seal at base.
- Resealed glove box between base and box with DAP Butylflex. No light shining through after repair.
- Replaced rubber disks at 4 feed-throughs.
- Maico Dalla Valle replaced the inner ring on the glove ports. See dwg ITA2954 and ECO-2418.
- After the repair, the glove box has a significantly reduced leak, estimated to a few liters per minute at an air pressure of 0.5" H2O.
