The September Mini-Shutdown is now a memory. The few days available to OLIS were used for MCIS Development on 197Au. Productive. A 197Au34+ beam sat on FC6 overnight. The program ended Friday, at which point a 20Ne1+ beam from the MWS was established, and line tuning commenced. |

A 20Ne1+ beam from the MWS was established on Friday. Line tuning began Friday evening. A tune to the front of the SC LINAC was in place by Saturday. Tuning through was delayed by SC tank conditioning. When the LINAC is ready, tuning to TIGRESS will resume, expected today. |

Beam from MWS quietly sitting on FC6 awaiting tune checks to TIGRESS. Next experiments up are 26Alg5+ to TUDA and 24Na5+ to TIGRESS. So we are poised for source switchover to provide 24/26Mg pilot beams from the MWS. |

Source switchover in progress on WP#2010-10-12-1. Magnesium material installed into MWS. Pumpdown in progress. Leakup rate OK. Turbos on.
Later... Pumping going well. at 1e-6 by ~16:00. |

Source is running nicely. Hand-off to ICR occurred ~Wednesday night. Setup done overnight. 26Mg (PE is now on at nominal value) is selected presently; blue trace on Stripchart. |

MWS is producing 26Mg, presently parked. It was used over the weekend for TUDA tuning. |

MWS ran fine overnight. It was shut off this morning to investigate bias sparking issue, noted on FR#4894. The two MCIS turbopump controllers are displaying gibberish on their front panels this morning. There was one spark since yesterday, around 19:15 last evening. Due to a failure at ITW - see here and here, a proposal is made to deliver 26Mg to the experiment for data. |

The MWS was restarted yesterday, and a 26Mg beam re-established. ICR set up into ISAC-II overnight, and tuning to TIGRESS began this morning. Note the experiment change due to circumstances at the RIB targets. |

A 26Mg beam was handed over to TIGRESS last evening. It is 26Mg6+ through ISAC-I and further stripped to 26Mg10+ by the time they get it. Approximately 2.5pnA at FC6. |

Smooth delivery (from OLIS point-of-view) to TIGRESS over the weekend. An SCB RF amplifier failed yesterday and was replaced. Tuning was done. Source is stable.
There were a couple of bias sparks over the weekend, expected during Mg runs. The mag stability program got knocked off at some point. Restart OK. |

The TIGRESS run was scheduled to end at 08:30, but has been extended for 24h. The ICR reports that they are getting "good data" with the present beam. Why mess with what works?
We will expect to begin the MWS switchover tomorrow. |

The experiment ran overnight, smoothly, by the looks of it. Beam is on FC6 now, so they're likely done. EOB studies on Mg beam to commence shortly, with source teardown and switchover to Rb beam to follow..
Emittance scans in progress, first at as-delivered settings: 5mm slits. Save: 101027_1102>snapiosfc6
Emittance scans at 26Mg then 24Mg.
Next, go fishing for 85/87Rb in background. Not a lot of fish in this pond... Double-check tune at 24Mg: perfect.
Next up: comprehensive mass scan. Then most likely we will take down the source for clean-up and switchover to Rb beams. Abort due to technical difficulties.
Next up: I just noticed a readable beam at A/q=13.33. Well, that's odd. (We are running 40Ar support gas in the source.) Let's see if it's reproducible. Yep.
Now... IOS bias keeps tripping... Time to investigate... The FUG keeps blowing fuses on reset. But in local mode, it starts and runs just fine. We conclude that its CANBUS card is driving the FUG at full chat on reset. Anyway, F/R#4925. |

A controls issue with IOS:BIAS was found yesterday. Controls people resolved it today. MWS source was switched over and prepared for Rb beam. Leakchecking done: tight. Source should pump for a little while longer before energizing. At present, leak detector is attached to the IOS roughing line. Pic attached with IOS:BP1 alternately online and offline.
Note: Source gas hand valve is CLOSED. |

Later... Noticed that MCIS:TP2 was tripped off. After a couple of tries, it restarted okay. Hmm... |

MWS source switchover yesterday was successful. Leakchecking went well. A small leak on the intermediate section sealed with a snug on the two bellows fixing bolts. The microwave window required cleaning. It tested leak-tight. All good. Pumpdown curve to come. Meanwhile, source was restarted last night. First 85Rb is on FC6 presently. Although OLIS has run Rb beam in the past using the SIS, this is a milestone for the MWS. Development to proceed today.
Later... Here is the pumpdown curve to last night. Base pressure reached less than 3e-8Torr, which is a very good pressure for the MWS. Prepare to shut down leak detector, which has been pumping on the roughing line overnight.
Later... First piece of a comprehensive mass scan. Brings a tear to my eye. Save: 101029_1125.snapiosfc6
Later... Scans completed. Data file. Among other things, the following isotopes were observed:

Scans Details
Attached is a separate scan in the region of 40 to 45, done in two directions. Data file (raw).
Leave 85Rb on FC6 for the weekend, or as long as it lasts! !1.3nA presently with 2.5mm slits in. I have increased the support gas flow slightly. |

The source stayed up steadily over the weekend, with 85Rb on FC6. Not a lot of current, but pretty good for a first pass. More development today. Source settings shown below. As previously noted, the 2.5mm slits are selected. Also, the present IOS tune is for effect, not by the book.
Next up: Try some variations on the source setup. |

85Rb on FC6 overnight. After restarting the source yesterday following development, the beam intensity came back, but it's slightly unstable compared to before. Mag stability program is active.
Later... Work with the source for a while. Improved. Stripchart attached. Time will tell. Save: 101102_14:30.snapiosfc6. Turn it over to ICR now. |
Wed Nov 3 09:22:38 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 85Rb for Polarizer
|
Yesterday we handed over a 85Rb beam to ICR. It will be used for a LEBT run using the Polarizer line. Beam stayed on FC6 overnight. Note the source spark at around midnight, after which the bias current readback was higher. Real or artifact?
Later... Beam status over last couple of hours. Looks like tuning has begun. |
