MCIS-

the Se was loaded into the oven last friday (21st).  During the weekend the presence of 76Se +11 to +15 was verified.

NOTE- the oven p/s on the cart is broken.  An attempt was made to remove it on friday.  It may be possible to remove, if the rack it is mounted on is loosened and turned.

SIS-

the Ionizer p/s control cable was removed to allow for local operation.  Keerthi tested the power supply in local mode on the weekend and found that the voltage did fluctuate.  This was confirmed by changes in the beam current.

Set-up pictures are located in -

The remaining connections were done on the MCIS.

A piece of 1/8" teflon was installed between the back of the sputtering tube/motor and the HV cage.

Ray confirmed the cart power supplies (heater and sputtering) Epics page readouts for Voltage and Current are okay.  The Heater p/s was left plugged into the cart receptacle.  The Sputtering p/s's are unplugged.

The MCIS:FC0 OUT limit was not actuating.  It was adjusted.

Keerthi tested the oven last night and was getting Se (14/10/24 it appeared to be Se, but the Prague magnet was not working.  Further investigation revealed it was not).  The oven supply is currently bypassed and ON.

Evigeny is working on the Alga and CPI amplifiers.  Both signal generators and the amplifiers are powered ON and connected.  Alga to the dummy load and CPI to the MCIS.

  491   Tue Oct 28 13:30:47 2014 Brian MinatoOtherOtherMCIS Update

MCIS-

the cleaning has been completed.  The oven assembly is removed and the gate valve closed.

The quartz tubes on the ground electrode have been installed with the larger diameter tube pushed as far downstream (toward the optics box) as possible.  The smaller tube has been positioned to extend 1-3/4" into the plasma chamber w.r.t. the insulator flange.

Currently the turbos are running and the source is pumping down.

Note-

there was a Controls problem when trying to operate the source.  They tracked the problem down to a bad ethernet communication cable.  A temporary cable is in place while a new one is being prepared.

  502   Thu Nov 13 16:34:29 2014 Brian MinatoOtherOtherMCIS Update

The ethernet cable from the CPI TWT amplifier has been temporarily moved to the Alga 50W amplifier.  The Alga had been experiencing loss of communication.  This has not been an issue with the CPI so this cable will be tried with the Alga.  A signal generator is not connected to the Alga.

  507   Wed Dec 17 13:17:13 2014 Brian MinatoOtherOtherMCIS Update

The MCIS was vented with nitrogen yesterday.  The Se oven was drawn back into the tuner.  It was removed with the tuner and blanked.

The standard quartz window was removed and replaced with a ceramic, test window supplied by CPI. (p/n VWU2054).  The system is currently pumping down.

  32   Tue Jun 23 18:04:30 2009 Damien GallopRoutineGeneralMCIS HV conditioning to 20KV

Supernanogan bias for this run is 16.32KV. After we were finished with source tuning, etc., we conditioned up to 20KV. Then beam was returned and 16O2+ tuned saved as 090623_1730.snapmcisfc6. Next step: Prepare MWS for dual operation. Source open now for source gas installation. Then Keerthi will develop a daul-mode tune, where the B1A bender only need be switched on or off to run either the MCIS or MWS source.

We noticed a double peak effect in the 16O3+ scan. I will set up the line for 17O3+ and see.

Scan #1: Double peak also visible.

Scan #2: Remove upstream slit altogether. Now profile is twice the size in the opposite direction of the double peak.

Scan #3: Widen emittance parameters in control panel.

Scan #4: Tweak MCIS CBs for FC0.

Scan #5: Optimize EL on FC6.

Scan #6: Lower EL by 10%.

Scan #7: Lower EL by another 20%.

Scan #8: Lower EL to 50% of full scale.

Scan #9: Tune for minimum spill with reasonable quantity on FC6. Save: 090915_1704.snapiosfc6

Final emittance rig control panel.

Development and the quest for gold continue.

Later... Mass scans in region of 197Au33 A/q=5.97, with graph of all theoretically possible charge states in the same A/q region. The thing to note in that last graph is how clean is the region (just left of A/q=6) where 197Au33 is predicted.

Later... Panning for gold ended prematurely due to a decision to end. The reason cited was DSB:MB14.

So. We are preparing for a few days of Supernanogan development. The present run plan is to obtain good emittance scans for higher charge states of 16O, 17O and 18. We may be limited by the loss of MCIS:TP1, but maybe not.

Set up on nom 18kV tune based on last recent save: 090831_1104.snapiosfc6. MCIS HV tickled up to prevent extracted beam surges.

First emittance scan of 16O3+ beam pix. First save: 090915_1053.snapiosfc6.

Also, here is a stripchart of the separator field and FC6 before and after the energy change. The field is nice and stable, and FC6 is consistent.

The 16O3+ DRAGON run just finished. MCIS Development begins this morning for a few days. The goal is to install and characterize the new sputter ion source.

Below are vacuum pics before and after closing MCIS:IV0. There was a bit of a spike during closing. All three turbos switched off. TP3 is down now.

Later... Keerthi requests we look at 16O7+ production as a measure of source performance. Done. Chart appended below, with source panels. Mass scan next.

A new sputter source was installed onto the Supernanogan. A wire of Au is installed in the source. Mass scans this morning with source at equipotential. Source patched to MWS EE supply and biased to ~1kV tunable. That makes a significant improvement in intensity. Beam at FC6 is 197Au24+ presently.

Source development in preparation for Au beam in progress.

379   Fri Dec 17 09:18:57 2010 Damien Gallop  MCIS Development

Development continues in the search for gold. A=197 Present A/q=5.94, which suggests 197Au+33. It could also be a tail of 12C+2. We'll see.

146   Mon Sep 28 14:16:47 2009 Damien Gallop  MCIS Cart down for TP1 Replacement

We are taking the opportunity to replace TP1 today. Edi Dalla Valle is on it. Also, Diagnostics has a WP in the queue for looking at the attenuators, so we have prepared IOS for venting.

Later... Cart was removed from cage for access. Pump was replaced successfully, and all volumes are under high vacuum now (17:00). In the end, IOS was not opened at this time.

131   Tue Aug 18 11:16:16 2009 Damien Gallop  MCIS "PV" PLC trip overnight

Another in the on-going saga of MCIS:PV1 trips occurred again this morning. The operators recovered most of the vacuum devices except for the IM section gate valves. We had an in-person discussion about them, the order in which they should be opened, and the existence of a hand valve in the IM roughing line. An ION note is needed.

Lots of other things were different, and beam was off. Restoring the tune basically restored beam. Whatever. Here are two emittance scans, one after restoration, one after further work. 18O4+ as before, but RF power arbitrary, and probably not identical to yesterday.

090818_0957ILTEMIT.txt

Ack! EL keeps tripping... Stay tuned.

Later... Jane is alpha-testing an application for our development. She is using the source presently. Development on hold.

15   Wed Jun 10 18:48:53 2009 Damien GallopRoutineGeneralKrypton source gas fitted

Krypton source gas teed directly into ion source. A Nupro valve and tee also added for 17O line. At present, the 17O gas bottle valve is closed. The Kr bottle has an integrated leak, so this bottle is opened to the system now. Pumping in progress. Pressure is already <3e-7 Torr. I will restart the source shortly.

36   Tue Jun 30 10:30:17 2009 Damien GallopRoutineGeneralInitial development setup

Setup teething pains... The Start button on the emittance panel worked this time. But ICR called, requesting a few minutes more for Marco. No problem. When I went to restart the scan, the button no longer worked. Restarting X11 made no difference. However, there is a significant update available for X11, so I am installing it now. I perceive that it works, yes, significantly faster than its predecessor. Good, all good.
