Now ramp cathode current up to 290 A. The total current out is 1.e-7 A.

116   Friday, June 29, 2012, 08:57 Pierre Bricault LP-FEBIAD    In progressContinue cathode heating

This morning the pressure was 3.5E-7 T. Current at 275 A is 30nA.

Continue cathode heating to 290 A during meeting.

Start seeing some electron current from the cathode around 275 A.

purged Ne line and started cathode heater ramp up to 295 A

Replaced grid containing ring (target side) with new ring. No contact between target and anode measured in lab.

NOTE: While closing up the VCR fittings the tube rotated causing the tube to flatten in a bend. This may reduce water flow on the heat shield circuit. (see attachment)

Wednesday, July 04, 2012, 15:33: Started roughing.

Wednesday, July 04, 2012, 15:57 : Started turbos

Wednesday, July 04, 2012, 16:03: Turbos at speed. Vacuum at 3E-5

Thursday, July 05, 2012, 08:39: Water supply open. Vacuum stable at 5.9E-7. Due to the kink in the heat shield cooling line, flow in the heat shield line is lower than other lines (visually inspecting speed of paddle wheels).

The helium bottle was found empty.

Rick will refill it and hook the leak detector on the system to find out

if we have a leak on the line.

Rick put the helium bottle back in the rack.

Waiting for status of the gas lines.

Lost communication with EPICS. Came in reset the ...

So far no luck.

165   Sunday, August 12, 2012, 22:07 Pierre Bricault      In progressFBIAD test

The reset restored the control.

But magnet supply does not put any amperage out.

Try turning it off and on. No chance.

I gave up. See tomorrow.

168   Monday, August 13, 2012, 14:26 Pierre Bricault      In progressFEBIAD test

I am done with the FEBIAD test (anode biased)

We will swap the bias now to the cathode and change the polarity to negative.

169   Monday, August 13, 2012, 14:56 Pierre Bricault      In progressFEBIAD test

One thing that seems to be strange regarding this FEBIAD is the best results are without any current in the coil.

Normally for the neon ionization the on-line source wanted to be at around 50 to 80 Amp. Not this one.

Is there anything special about this coil?

170   Thursday, August 16, 2012, 10:41 Pierre Bricault      In progressTest FEBIAD

Ray is finishing the electrical modifications for the FEBIAD with the biased cathode.

We found the source of the sparks. The disconnected target heater cables were resting on the Einzel lens cap.

175   Friday, August 17, 2012, 08:30 Pierre Bricault      In progressFEBIAD test with cathode biased

Yesterday Ray Dube has changed the configuration in order to run the FEBIAD with the cathode on negative bias.

There were a short between the gas line and the common. The box has been opened and the short removed.

This morning I am turning on the cathode heater to 290 A.
