On May 16th 2013 the module was HV conditioned all day. As a result the maximum stable voltage has been increased to about 47kV (~4kV more than last test). A maximum voltage of 49kV was achieved but the module was very unstable. Attached is the data from the testing. Note that occasionally the sparking caused the PS to reset, it was turned back on and the voltage increased back to what it was (or lower) quickly.

Broken tong cable on SW manipulator (serial #8106) of SHC was replaced today.

Following ISAC Hot Cell entry procedure, Document 157554, SHC was entered and wrist and tong cable were replaced with a pre-run/assembled wrist, cable and tong. It is standard to try and pre-make/load a new cable into a spare tong assembly to reduce time spent in the HC. This marks the first time a wrist has been replaced. Rationale for replacing the wrist at this time is that internal spacer A-14118 which the ting cable rides over has had grooves worn into it. This is a result of regular wear and tear but could be causing premature wear on the tong cable. Replacement is a preventative measure. This is the original wrist and spacer from the original install in 1998. The wrist that was removed will be rebuilt and swapped out with the original one on the SE manipulator (serial #7986) at a later date.

Parts replaced today are: New - Bottom half of wrist joint (CRL-13950), New - Tong cable (CRL-14230) and used tong assembly (CRL-18062)

Procedure took about 40 minutes. Dose received was ~0.046 uSv

South hot cell was entered to check to replace cable if needed. Wrist cable showed no signs of fraying or broken strands.

A tong with new cable pre-installed is now in the hot cell for next time this job needs to be done. There is also another spare tong cable not installed in a tong located in the box of manipulator repair equipment located inside the hot cell.

Both manipulator slave ends were lubricated whilst inside.

The broken cable on the east manipulator has been replaced.

The handle will need some adjustments which will take place first thing tomorrow.

Broken cable has been replaced however a cable has hopped some pulleys inside. After two hours in cell the job was stopped with cables still off pulleys. Alternate tooling will have to be made and the job will continue Monday.

Entry  Monday, May 05, 2025, 09:18, chad fisher, North Hot-Cell, Maintenance, , , Manipulator Remote End Replacement 9352 with 9764

Remote end 9352 replaced with end 9764 due to signs of an issue with the tong cable (tong opening excessively large and slack in cable on one side). Upon replacement tong opening on 9764 also opened larger then the remote end was set to. Everything is operational but this phenomenon indicates the handle cable system on operator side must be where the excess is coming for. This is further indicted but the position of the locking screw on the handle cable drum on the operator side, typically ccw of the hole location but now cw of the locking hole location. When there is a two week period between target changes in the NHC I would suggest swapping this operator arm with the spare.

Disassembled the master side of the right manipulator this morning to check the wrist cable. The cable on the master side shows no sign of wear or fraying suggesting that the slave side cable may be the item that is wearing. during disassembly of the master I did notice some loose parts that could have been the source of the audible concern but should not have contributed to the slippage felt in the gripper. I will try and schedule Tuesday for entry into the hot cell to address the slave cable.

Hot cell was entered for preventative mait. on left manip. field measurements around the cell were taken in prep. for window removal in January and left/south light bulb changed.

Hottest item in the cell was the conductor block end of the TM4 febiad coil line. It was 70 mSv/H on contact and seemed to be the major source of field in the hot cell. The waterblock end of this line did not apper to be hot.

Aaron and I completed assembling (re-assembling) the clean spare on Tuesday, February 14th to assist in determining a procedure for replacement of the 'Z' motion cable on the south hot cell manipulators.

The anchor point in the slave end of the clean manipulator could not be found as the manipulator stand is too low and does not allow full extension of the slave end.

Did some poking around on the in-situ manipulator in the south cell and was able to find the anchor point viewing it with the in cell camera (see blurry attached photo).

Was able to then find reference to the "cable clamp" in the parts list and drawing for the slave end. Also, confirmed there is not a procedure in the manual for a CABLE 'Z' motion system as we have, only a tape driven system. The procedure should however be very similar safe this mystery anchor point I discovered today and how readily this anchor point can be worked in.

East manipulator on the south hot cell is showing signs of eminent wrist/tong cable failure. Some slight slippage was noted yesterday and confirmed by a snapping sound and more slippage tomorrow.

Aaron and I successfully completed a run through on the procedure to replace the 'Z' motion cable. I will be writing up the procedure for review and we will be performing more run through-s for practice before the actual job.

Bearings for the main storage vault door were lubricated on 2023-07-28. It is unknown when this was last done. It is suggested that this be a recurring maintenance task every two years.

Entry  Wednesday, September 04, 2013, 18:53, Grant Minor, South Hot-Cell, Repair, TM3, , Maico's measurements of new c-seals and bench-tested c-seals c-seals_GStanford_file_chronological_4Sept2013.pdfGuyStanford_cseal_file_scanned_30Aug2013.pdf

Today Maico measured the thickness of three indium-plated inconel c-seals, presumably Ultra-Seal P/N 50606.  These seals had NOT been in the Hot Cell.

Uncompressed (new) "thin" c-seal

OD .435"

ID .300"

Thickness .094"

Uncompressed (new) "thick" c-seal

OD .438"

ID .280"

Thickness .096"

Compressed (used) "thin" c-seal (Beginning of Life bench test compression only, not long term compression)

OD .438"

ID .294"

Thickness .079"

Maico commented that he measured the thickness of a few other compressed "thin" c-seals and they all had .079" thicknesses.

The seal space when the blocks are bolted together (shown on ITA2342 Rev F) should be .070" (steel insert CB) + .002" (recess on module side)  + .002" (recess on source-tray side) = .074"

Thus the compressed seals seem to have .079" - .074" = .005" spring-back.

C-seal drawings from Ultra-Seal and Garlock in chronological order from Guy Stanford's design file are attached.  Guy's whole design file is also attached for reference.

TCS:MP1 was tripping of intermittently yesterday. It was found by Dave Morris that the current sensor was not set correctly causing the pump on status to flicker at times. Dave adjusted the settings yesterday. The system should be operational and is currently running normally.
