Just some notes on the install of SiC#30 on TM3 last month...It was installed with all new fasteners and torque values provided by Anders were used...of main interest is probably the main high current fasteners which were torqued to 150 in lbs.

SiC#30 has been removed from TM3. A quick exam of TM3 source tray did not  yield any obvious signs of damage.

9 pin connector on the target showed the usual sparking/arcing marks.

Heat shield has been removed from the target. Inside of heat shield has some unusual marks on it and quite a lot of black deposits.

Electrical check on TM#4 with SiC#29 has been done. The reading of the magnet coil and 60kV common is low at 750 ohms, normally this infinite. Awaiting further instruction on if this is a pass or fail. See attached PDF for the rest of the details.

Electrical check of TM#4 with SiC#29 attached. Results are pretty much the same as yesterday for the coil to 60kV common, and anode to 60kV common. See attached pdf for details.

By pressurizing the water lines with 70 psi helium David and I detected a major leak on the Coil 1 circuit. The response maxed out on the leak rate on the leak detector and we could also see a pressure increase on the leak detector. ISAC controls reported a change in vacuum at the same time (link).

The Heat Shield and Coil 2 circuit was checked before we moved to Coil 1. No response was detected on these two circuits. We would like to check the remaining circuits as well, but this cannot be done today due to the large amount of helium still present. The remaining circuits will have to be checked tomorrow morning.

All water circuits except Coil 1 were leak checked by David and Anders. No obvious signals were detected except some small possible responses. See attached notes for details.

SiC#29 has been moved to the spent target vault. The target was placed in Pail #109 and placed into slot 2B it was 24.7mS/hr upon removal from the south hot cell. See attached PDF of the vault details.

Entry  Tuesday, October 08, 2013, 14:58, Anders Mjos, South Hot-Cell, Standard Operation, , SiC#29, Target to Heat Shield electrical short

The SiC#29 CTL target has been taken apart with the help of Isaac and Chad. Electrical measurements were done between Target and Heat Shield as the target was disassembled. Work was done on October 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th.

The megger showed about 30kOhm at 50V with the following changes

  • Bolts for CTL block loosened
  • Above bolts removed
  • CTL block pulled away from Heat Shield
  • CTL block removed
  • Heat Shield lid removed
  • Bolts for target removed
  • Shims between target and insulators

The megger showed about 50kOhm at 100V with the following changes

  • Target removed. Measured between cathode restraint and HS.

The megger showed OL at 540V with No 3 insulator removed. A measurement on No 3 insulator while it was sitting on the HS showed 70kOhm at 120V confirming that the insulator can no longer hold voltage.

While taking off the coil retainer plate, Chad noticed that all bolts were not tight.
