After trials with 2000 grid wet paper I have moved up to "red" scotch brite. This seems to have worked the best so far although it took two minutes to remove the ring that the other materials could not remove (see picture).

I have moved to next circuit. Currently at 3 minutes and 30 seconds with scotch brite but significant ring remains.

Polishing of the water block sealing surfaces has commenced. First attempt was on block B with low nap brown polishing pad (the least aggressive pad prepared) and isopropyl for 30 seconds. This cleaned a little but did not remove the "ring" which I believe is water scale. I will step up to 2000 grit wet sand paper and iso next.

Transfer fixture has been remotely disassembled to the point where the ball nut lock plate assembly can be inserted into the tool port and the plate replaced by hand in the tool port without having to enter the hot cell. Straight head screws will be replaced with SHCS to facilitate easier re-assembly and future disassembly.

The old TM#2 source tray and TM#4 optics tray have been removed from the vault and placed into the spent target storage on tray 9 which is meant for source trays.

  1879   Friday, March 01, 2019, 09:57 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellRepairTM2 TM2 Source tray removal

TM4 optics tray was installed onto the old TM2 source tray yesterday and tray filled with non-active metal scrap. Tray inserted into transfer frame 95% yesterday. During insertion the ball nut of the transfer jig became unfastened from its drive plate. This will have to be fixed before the jig can be used reliably again however we were able to finish the job...the transfer jig is 20 years old now so it is not entirely suprising that it needs some attention.

Today the Tm2 tray final install into the transport tray occurred by driving the tray drive screw and bringing the tray into the transfer frame the last inch 1/2 or so. "Feet" (ITA2380) had to be removed from sliding tray assembly to fit in the box however upon attempting this is was immediately clear that one of the screws was stuck and must have been cross threaded during assembly. As as result the entire drive bracket (ITA2375) had to be removed form the source tray to allow final insertion into the box.

11 handles from spent target transfers, 1 plastic bin box, Ta LP test target TRI coil, 1 aluminum box, sockets and extensions from spent target transfers and 5 obsolete legs from previous source tray replacements were amoung the items disposed of with the spent source tray.

1873   Thursday, February 21, 2019, 15:10 Isaac EarleSafe Module ParkingDevelopment  Seismic requirements for SMP

Dragan Mitrovic, TRIUMF structural engineer, was consulted earlier this week regarding seismic requirements for the SMP assembly.  Installation location, overall dimensions, total weight, and the center of mass for assembly IRH1670 were provided to him by e-mail.  On Feb 20th he communicated verbally that he had analyzed the assembly for seismic loads, and concluded that this equipment does not require anchoring or any other form of seismic restraint.

Update (May 30, 2019): Confirmed with Dragan that the approach he used for analysis was that specified in the BC Building Code (both 2012 edition and updated 2018 edition).
