On Friday, June 22 the following work was carried out.

  • Further inspection of the source tray.
  • Testing of existing tray removal and installation tool...it works fine, there was just a specific method for proper coupling to the target module. There was no documentation for this tool, so it took a little bit of insight with the drawings and a little trial and error. A document should be written for this tool so its proper use is documented...I will do this.
  • Blank-offs installed on heat shield water lines.
  • New gaskets installed on window water lines.
  • Containment box re-installed.

Started refurb of TM3.

Planned activities:

Inspection

Water line blank off

Started 1:00pm

  • Video inspection before containment box removed - noticed discoloration on top right (if looking from h/c window) 4" insulator
  • Containment box cover removed
  • Containment box removed

As I am much older, wiser and handsomer then last time I removed this style of box, I realised there was a better, safer procedure for the removal...I will be updating the doc. accordingly.

End 2:25 pm

TM#3 has been moved from the south west silo to the south hot cell for the start of its second refurb/repair. The fields of the module when it was lowed in was 2msv/hr.

129   Wednesday, June 20, 2012, 11:39 Grant MinorSouth Hot-CellDevelopmentTM3N/ATM3 Planned Activites at South Hot Cell Jun 20 to 29 2012

(Copy of e-mail correspondence sent June 20th 2012)

After some discussions this morning I’ve decided on the following best path forward for TM3 at the Hot Cell leading up to the Canada Day long weekend.

General Goals:

-          Blank-off TM3 water line terminations (coil, heat shield, water-cooled window)

-          Test sliding tray removal tool to determine fit on TM3 chassis

We will skip the Conditioning Station leak tests and return TM3 directly to a silo for the following reasons:

-          We will have a visitor next week and this will impact Chad’s time available to do Hot Cell work

-          Helium pressure leak checks on the blanked-off circuits are only one small portion of a large set of diagnostic tests (leak, electrical, HV, etc.) that must ultimately be performed on TM3 to determine its fitness. This full set of tests must be carefully documented in a procedure and executed systematically when there is adequate time at the CS to do all of them, with results recorded.  There is currently not adequate time for this work between now and Canada Day.

-          If we were to detect a leak from one of these tests, it would not tell us anything about where the leak is in that given circuit (there are multiple possible points).  The service cap would have to be opened regardless, which we don’t have time for.

-          The aforementioned bullets above lead me to conclude that the extra work required for two module moves for one set of partial leak checks is not a value-added exercise: In other words, the module will have to go back to the CS, regardless of what we do over the next week for more tests.  The time savings of trying to squeeze it in next week are really negligible and it makes for a tight schedule for not much benefit.

Chad:  Please prepare a detailed work plan for your hot cell jobs including a list of the tools required and what leak checks you will do specifically after you have installed the blank-offs.  You may refer to existing procedures if you already have these written.  I would like to review this plan and I am expecting that an e-log will be filed daily and this work plan should be referred to as an attachment.

Proposed Schedule Jun 20 to 29

Wednesday Jun 20 (1 working day)

-          Setup for TM3 move from Silo to HC (Travis, David)

Thursday Jun 21 (1 working day)

-          TM3 moved from silo to HC (Travis, Don Dale, David)

Friday Jun 22 to Wednesday Jun 27 (4 working days)

-          Chad performs the following HC work on TM3:

·         Removes containment box

·         Installs water-line blank-offs

·         Checks Sliding Tray Removal Tool Fit

-          Vacuum leak checks of blanked-off lines at the HC (Chad, David, VG)

-          Chad buttons up TM3

-          In parallel - David performs block moves as required

Thursday Jun 28 (1 working day)

-          TM3 moved from HC to Silo (Travis, Don Dale, David)

Friday Jun 29 (1 working day)

-          Contingency

RH Group: Please move ahead with the work as outlined above.  Please comment if you have any concerns or proposed changes to this plan.  Thanks very much to all for your assistance,

Grant

  128   Tuesday, June 19, 2012, 16:18 David WangITWStandard OperationTM1Ta38TM1connected in ITW

We moved TM1 to ITW today, I connected TM1 to ITW, and started all turbo pumps this afternoon. TP4s is very difficult to bring to 38 KRMP now. I have to use soft start model and tried twice to get this pump started (1.5 hours). This pump always had a difficult start time during the past 2-3 runs. I talked with Friedhelm and we think it should be replaced after this run. I will issue an e-fault on this pump and try to get a new pump from vacuum group. It will take 2 hours to change this pump. I could do this job with another person help. Or, vacuum group could do it. Don can schedule a time for this job before next run. Anyway, it should work fine for this run.  The water interlock check related to TM1 is done. I will do the rest before blocks on. All TM1 water signals are strong and good. All vacuum gauge readings are good so far(below5.0xe-5 torr).

126   Monday, June 11, 2012, 14:41 David WangConditioning StationStandard OperationTM1Ta38Heat shield helium pressure test

Connected leak detector to TM1 and CS vacuum system. The vacuum readings on TM1 and CS:PNG1 1.3 xE-6 Torr, IG1 4.7xE-7torr, IG4(diagnostic box)1.5xE-6 Torr. Leak detector base pressure:0.0xE-4 torr, base leak rate: 0.0xE-9 atm.cc/sec. Applied 80 psi helium to heat shield circuit for 5 mins . There is no response on leak detector. The heat shield circuit is leak tight.

I connected vacuum system to TM1 and conditioning station and started two turbo pumps yesterday. The pumping an d vacuum readings  are verg good so far(all below 5xE-6 torr). Helium pressure test on heat shield circuit will be fulfilled next week.

120   Thursday, June 07, 2012, 11:58 Bevan MossConditioning StationStandard OperationTM1Ta38Module Move from SHC to TCS

TM1 was moved from SHC to the TCS. The mode took roughly 1 hour. During the move the north east corner of the containment box caught slightly on the flange of the vacuum vessel and then slipped off. The contact was minimal but should none the less be noted. After sliding off of the flange the module did not crash into the other sides of the vacuum vessel, this is why I believe the contact was minimal. It should be noted that the corner of concern is the one that is most difficult to see.

  119   Wednesday, June 06, 2012, 14:33 David WangSouth Hot-CellStandard OperationTM1Ta38leak check heat shield circuit

Chad and I did a leak check on heat shield circuit after target is installed on TM1.The leak detector pumping down is smooth. The base leak rate is 0.0xE-9 atm.cc/sec. The base pressure is 0.0xE-4torr. Chad checked helium flow downstairs and sprayed helium to each joints for 2 seconds. The first joints is good and there is no any response on leak detector.we double checked it again and got the same result. On the second joint, Chad sprayed helium 2second. After 15 second of spraying, the leak detector got a response which climbed to 3.2xE-8 atm.cc/sec max,and back to 2.5 XE-8 atm.cc/sec. Chad tried to tighten the fitting. During his tight, the leak rate response to 7.5x E-8 atm.cc/sec momentarily. After the tightening ,the leak rate back to 0.0x E-9atm.cc/sec whic is the base.So we sprayed the helium to the joint again. This time ,there is no any response on leak detector. We checked this joint  again and got the same result which is no response. Finally, Chad flush the helium around the target for 10 second ,and during 45 sec observation time there is no any response on leak detector. I would say the heat shield circuit is leak tight so far. I will do a helium pressure test on it once the TM1 is moved the CS.

  118   Wednesday, June 06, 2012, 13:36 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellStandard OperationTM1Ta#38Target Change Nb#6 - Ta#38

Nb#6 was removed from TM1...it looked very clean.

Ta#38 was installed onto TM1...fit well.

Isaac Earle did this change with supervision in an effort to cross train.

TM1 containment box was checked for damage from the "bump" it got during yesterday's move. There was new scratches on the shutter side panel. Picture to follow.

The front containment box panel was "difficult" to remove...it required a good pull to get off.

  117   Wednesday, June 06, 2012, 08:21 David WangITWStandard OperationTM1 TM1 disconnected in ITW

I disconnected TM1 in ITW yesterday morning. The general radioactive level in ITW over the TM top (300mm) is about 350 usv/hr. contacting level on TP1 and TP2 are 1.0-1.2 msv/hr. I took 0.22 msv dose .The module is moved to

south hot cell later and a shielding plug is put back to ITW. Everything is fine.

116   Tuesday, June 05, 2012, 15:06 Bevan MossITWStandard OperationTM1Nb#6Module move from ITW to SHC

TM1 has been moved from ITW to the SHC. The move did encounter some issues, one of the railings for preventing people from falling into the MAA was hit with the containment box. This caused the module to rotate. The module rotated ~90 degrees before the problem was noticed. The module was backed off from the post once noticed but had already freely rotated. The box was inspected with the cameras prior to being inserted into the SHC. No damage was detected. The error came as a result of over confidence. It did appear it was going to be hit but as the module moved closer I believed that there would be clearance. The angle of the camera has caused the module to appear it was going to hit thing before in the past but it actually (once the module was closer to the object) had several feet of clearance. This is not a mistake I will make again.

Chad Fisher, Grant Minor, and Don Jackson, have been alerted about this. Chad will complete another visual inspection in the hot cell. David will take swipes of the pole to ensure there is no contamination.
