Tom Kauss inspected target hall crane below hook attachment pins and plates ITA6550-01. He certified the use of these pins and plates. The inspection of these pins and plates was in Target hall crane annual check list. It was issued as a calibration index by Isaac Earle in 2022-Feb-08.  After inspection, The inspection tag  was issued and attached to pin. Tom has an inspection record on this job. See attachments.

2303   Thursday, February 10, 2022, 12:24 David WangITWStandard Operation  ITW HV test without mdoule.

Carla did the test. and reported the result as following: HV testing of ITW is complete. It was pretty well behaved up to 59.5kV, and sat at 59kV for 30mins with no sparks (that EPICS caught). There was some strange behaviour of the current between 51kV and 53kV - it was jumping by 20uA or more - but there didn't seem to be any voltage response, and it went away after 53kV (though it returned on the way back down). The test was done in Feb 02.

2304   Thursday, February 10, 2022, 12:42 David WangITEStandard Operation  ITE HV test woithout mdoule was done.

Carla did the test. That is what she wrote in Feb 04th:  "I am done with the HV testing at ITE - the results were the same as at ITW. It stayed at 59kV for 30 mins with no issues. Trying to go above 59.5kV is probably possible but a bit more risky. ITE also has a band, from 54-56kV, where the current jumps around like crazy".

2307   Thursday, February 17, 2022, 13:24 David WangSpent Target VaultMaintenance UCx #34Repackage of UCx #34in NHC.

UCX34# in pail 258(Vault lot 7C) has been repacked today. It is an investigation to find a possible leak source of radioactive Iodine in vault. The new pail number is 268. It is back to vault 7c . I wrote down the information in log book. The job is smooth today. I retrieved UCx 34 old pail and liner to TH. The liner from UCx#34 only has 3000 counts.  I bagged it. It could be used later. However, the pail has 500K counts contamination on bottom outside rim. It may accidently be slided out of plastic bag and touched the NHC table during the repackage. I bagged it and store it in silo area. When we do drum clean up, I will throw it in the drum.

2309   Friday, February 25, 2022, 10:22 Adam NewsomeSouth Hot-CellDevelopment  Addition of E-Stops and Turntable Vertical Motion Limit Switch

Two changes have been made to the control system to the South Hot Cell:

  1. Addition of two emergency stop buttons: one located in the Target Hall on the wall adjacent to the hot cell, and one located on the control panel adjacent the operator station.
  2. Addition of limit switches to the turntable's vertical drive system to prevent over-travel at both the upper and lower limits.

The emergency stops will both stop all turntable motion: vertical and rotational.

An update to operating procedures: in order for the vertical motion system to function, the limit switch cable must be plugged in. When plugging in the vertical drive motor to the wall outlet as per normal operating procedure, it is now required to also connect the limit switch (which is mounted near the motor on the driveshaft) to the cable coming from the appropriately labelled junction box on the South wall (M12 connector).

These changes are based on electrical drawings IRH2083 - IRH2085 and mechanical assembly drawing ITA6739. The changes have been commissioned according to commissioning plan Document-218490. The commissioning report will be uploaded to DocuShare. The work permit for this upgrade was I2022-02-15--3.

  2312   Monday, April 04, 2022, 10:44 Nadia JorgensonSouth Hot-CellRepair  Turntable Chain Repair

Last week we repaired the South Hot Cell turntable chain/sprocket. Chain was loose and there was a few section where the chain was not lining up properly with the sprockets.

3 issues were discovered:

-        One of the pins was bent. It’s been replaced but is a temporary fix. Need to replace them with stronger pins.

-        The smaller sprockets near the motor were too far from the main turntable sprocket which was causing the links to not immediately line up with the teeth on the turntable sprocket. With too much slack in the chain, it’s likely that this is were the misalignment was starting. This was fixed by adjusting the motor position and the position of the yellow plate bolted to the floor.

-        The yellow plate that is bolted into the floor has oversized holes relative to the bolts/washers used. This allows us to adjust the position, but the washers are to thin and are being bent/pulled into the holes. Should be replaced with thicker washers that can withstand the tension and this will help prevent the plate from sliding out of position.

2318   Friday, May 06, 2022, 10:12 Adam NewsomeSpent Target VaultMaintenance  Annual Inspection of Mini-Storage Vault

The annual inspection of the mini-storage vault was performed today. The following items were checked:

  • Cabling and cable management
  • Connectors
  • Controls box - internal wiring and components, functionality
  • Limit switches - functionality, wiring, mounting
  • Motor
  • Bearings
  • Set screws
  • Miscellaneous fasteners (some loose, but were tightened)

Everything appears to be in good working order.

Note: in the near future, the bearings should be greased. This is planned to take place during the next inspection of the main storage vault.

The emergency close mechanism for the Storage Vault door was tested by Travis Cave, Nadia Jorgenson, and Dan McDonald. The door was opened to its fully open limit, then closed with the emergency system.

The test was successful.

2320   Wednesday, May 11, 2022, 16:29 Nadia JorgensonSpent Target VaultStandard Operation  Routine mechanical inspection: storage vault

An inspection was performed on drive systems for the main storage vault by Dan McDonald, Travis Cave and Nadia Jorgenson. The functionality was not tested. Some areas for improvement noted, but otherwise nothing concerning was discovered.

Notes:

  • The wire insulation to the motor is showing wear and tear. Should be replaced in the future. For now was patched with electrical tape, see picture. May be beneficial to add an e-chain for the portion of the wiring that moves when door is opening and closing

  • Emergency close mechanism cable should be changed to have a 5/32” Nico Sleeve

  • Moving parts still need to be lubricated

  • Chain inspected (OK)

  • Gearbox inspected - OK

  • All drive system set screws checked and tightened

  • Sprocket alignment checked - OK

  • Limit switches checked - OK

  • Emergency close mechanism cable checked - OK
