A P2N container with heat shields, and with a UO2/C loaded graphite container was installed in the EVAP1
Chamber is currently being evacuated.
Thursday, January 30, 2020, 08:56
Pressure limits:
Good vacuum 1e-1 Torr
Bad vacuum 5e-1 Torr
Initial pressure:
IGP1=1.52e-6Torr
Current ramp set to 1A/min to 10 A, voltage is stable.
Current ramp increased to 1A/10s to 100 A. The pressure started raising around 80 A.
Current was kept 5min at at 100 A, voltage was stable
Thursday, January 30, 2020, 09:32
Current ramp set to 1A/20s to 150 A (same pressure limits)
Pressure keep increasing during heating
Thursday, January 30, 2020, 09:53
Current was kept at 150 min during 5 min, the voltage is stable, pressure started to stabilize:
IGP1 = 0.027 Torr
TGHT = 0.418 V
Ramp set to 1A/min to 200 A.
Thursday, January 30, 2020, 10:02
Pressure decreasing:
TGHT= 153 A
|
Thursday, January 30, 2020, 10:15
At 155 A while pressure decreasing, the power supply tripped off,
Controls has been notified, waiting for instructions.
|
Thursday, January 30, 2020, 11:51
Controls respond "It looks like the power supplies were tripped by either the pirani gauge (IEVAP:IGP1) or the Nuclear vent or by both. But, it did not look like that the interlock tree latched the bad condition when the power supplies tripped. I modified the PLC to properly latch the cause of the trip." and gave green light to restart the carbothermal reduction. |

A loaded graphite cartridge was set in a tantalum boated and wrapped with 3 tantalum sheets (Friday May 22, 2020)
The set up was installed in the EVAP1 and pumped down during the weekend.
IGP1 = 7.10 e-7 Torr
Good vacuum = 1e-1 Torr
Bad vacuum = 5e-1 Torr
Current ramp is 1A per 10s from 0A to 120A
Tuesday, May 26, 2020, 19:15
Heater (TGHT) tripped after being at 120A about approximately 10 min.
The pressure was below 500 mTorr when the trip occured (around 20 mTorr) . Pressure did not appear to have gone past 200 mTorr but was dropping fast at the time of trip.
Will try again tomorrow after consulting with Gelo.
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 10:26
Trying again while monitoring Power Supply reading ( Darwin Remotely and Marla onsite)
IGP1 = 7.7 e-7 Torr
Good vacuum = 1e-1 Torr
Bad vacuum = 5e-1 Torr
Current ramp is 1A per 10s from 0A to 120A
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 10:49
Reached 120A on TGHT
TGHT= 0.92V
IGP1 = 3.6 e-06 Torr and rising
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 12:46
TGHT = 120.2 A, 0.98V
IGP1 = 6.85e-6 Torr
Starting ramp at 3A per 10s up to 550 A or up to pressure drop start
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 14:21
Heater tripped again at around 0.14 Torr and approx 440 A
Will start again hoping pressure stable enough to not trip heater.
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 14:22
IGP1= 1.05e-6 Torr
Ramping to 120 A at 1 A per 10 s
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 15:12
Starting ramp on TGHT at 3A per 10s up to 550A or pressure dip.
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 15:35
Changed vacuum settings (paused ramp and restarted)
Good vacuum 1e-2
bad vacuum 5e-1
Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 16:30
TGHT = 549.4 A, 5.35V
IGP1= 2.1e-5 Torr
Reached 550 at approx 4 pm
Thursday, May 28, 2020, 00:31

Bad vacuum = 5e-1 Torr
Current ramp is 1A per 10s from 0A to 120A
Wednesday, June 03, 2020, 09:59
After about 20 minutes at 120 A, TGHT tripped again exactly as before.
Will restart ramp at 1A per 10s from 0A to 120A . Will set good vacuum to 1e-2 Torr
IGP1= 4.3e-05 Torr
Wednesday, June 03, 2020, 10:57
IGP1 = 9e-4 Torr
Pressure peaked around 4e-3 Torr and now trending down

Suspect that the thinner Ta shields make a difference. Suggest to add a fourth shield and process the previous cartridge in a tube rather than a boat. Treat for four hours (pressure max) and then test increasing the current to see if there is a pressure bump. If no pressure bump then lower current to deposit 1900W for 8 additional hours.

Cartridge with 175 discs (including 5 analysis discs) loaded into a graphite cartridge.
To be reduced inside a Ta container tube. Tube wrapped in 3 Ta foil heatshields
Will keep at reducing current for 4 hours and then 10 hours @ 425A
Good Vacuum: 5.0e-04 Torr
Bad Vacuum: 5.0e-02 Torr
Initial pressure was 6.36 e-07 Torr
Autoramped to 56A @ 1A/30s
Outgassing bump observed starting at 50A and at 56A the maximum pressure was ~1.9e-05 Torr
Monday, December 19, 2022, 10:47
started autoramping at 1A/30s to 90A
Monday, December 19, 2022, 10:50
observed that pressure not increasing radically, therefore ramping up faster. 2A/30s
Monday, December 19, 2022, 10:58
Second pressure bump observed at 90A, 1.0V
leaving at this current until pressure drops
Monday, December 19, 2022, 17:15
ramped to 280A and left at 280 until pressure started dropping
ramping again to 500A @ 2A/30s
Monday, December 19, 2022, 17:26
Stopped at 330A due to pressure hike. Will allow pressure to drop then continue ramp.
Monday, December 19, 2022, 18:00
restarting ramp @ 2A/30s
Monday, December 19, 2022, 18:11
Pressure started dropping around 350A corresponding to additive gas-off. Will rampt to 500A @ 2A/30 seconds and then at 1A/30s to 530A
Final current was 548A, 6.7 V. Will test increasing current after 4 hours (11 pm)
Monday, December 19, 2022, 23:10
