  303   Tue Jun 29 09:16:33 2010 Damien Gallop  24Mg5+ to TIGRESS

Delivery to TIGRESS has begun. Beam from the source looks perfect. Looks like happy times for them. The plan is to eventually deliver 24Na5+ via the CSB. Maintenance Day for the radioactive lines is in progress now.

Later... This is about as good as it gets for magnesium beams from the MWS. Attached are screen shots of the source setup.

  305   Mon Jul 5 11:58:49 2010 Damien Gallop  26Mg6+ for TIGRESS

Beam was switched from 24Mg5+ to 26Mg6+ on Canada Day. Also, the source blinked out on Saturday. Remote restart okay. Source is running well.

Supernanogan maintenance continues. MCIS optics module was reassembled last week and installed this morning. Also a section of wveguide was replaced using a specially prepared section. TBD: MCIS:DB1 top place assembly, pump, then reinstall the cart into the cage if possible.

Later... solid target chamber installed with germanium powder, in preparation for an upcoming run. MCIS:DB1 is assembled. Volume is under high vacuum now. Leak detector also set up in preparation for checking tomorrow.

  306   Tue Jul 6 08:57:33 2010 Damien Gallop  26Mg6+ for TIGRESS EOB

Photo-finish for TIGRESS this morning, apart from a cavity trip at around 6:00 a.m.. The MWS is running very well. Some EOB activities underway presently.

Plan for today: MWS pulldown for Mg removal and cleanup. If feasible, we will install the Supernanogan into the OLIS cage as well.

307   Tue Jul 6 19:10:33 2010 Damien Gallop  OLIS Maintenance

Source pulled down for Mg removal and cleanup. Done. Supernanogan refurbishing of MCIS optics complete, plus a comple of other items. Opened joints leackchecked and okay. MCISIOC was in a partial state, where devices worked but not interlocks. It turns out that Controls knows about this. Msg to investigate in the morning. Meanwhile, MWS is up with a 16O1+ beam on FC6 presently. FYI, the vacuum pumpdown curve during leakcheck and startup operations.

  308   Wed Jul 7 15:21:36 2010 Damien Gallop  16O1+ for SCC Commissioning

A 16O1+ beam from the MWS is being used for SCC development and commissioning by agreement. Some sideshows getting there.

Later... At approximately 13:15, some event, a bias spark, it appears, took out a number of devices, most of which IOPS reset. The FUG blew a fuse on startup. Replacement OK. However, there remains an interlock light on the IOS:BIAS panel with no apparently unsatisfied interlocks showing. Controls is checking now (~15:00). Cause appeared to be an old version of a startup script on IOSIOC. The script has been updated so that this particular fault should not recur. Source restarted okay, but it took some doing to get the separator magnet back. It is still not optimized, but Marco can take it from here.

  309   Thu Jul 8 09:38:36 2010 Damien Gallop  16O1+ at 32.64keV for accelerator commissioning

Beam idle overnight. Source conditioned and changed a bit. Slight tweaking required to bring it back to stable.

  310   Fri Jul 9 10:00:03 2010 Damien Gallop  16O1+ at 32.64keV for accelerator commissioning

Source drifted overnight. Operators made a slight correction to silence an alarm. I have tweaked this up. Shown below are before and after. Marco believes present beam is unstable. I will see if I can tweak up the intensity, and perhaps that will satisfy all requirements.

Later... ~13:00 this is just about as good as it gets. Stripchart of the last couple of hours plus current excellent source parameters appended below.

  311   Mon Jul 12 10:55:14 2010 Damien Gallop  16O1+ at 32.64keV for accelerator commissioning

Beam used sporadically over the weekend. Note temperature response in beam. A power bump occurred at about 10:00, knocking out OLIS. It was challenging to come back to where it was before.

312   Tue Jul 13 18:33:04 2010 Damien Gallop  OLIS Maintenance and Development

A source switchover day was negotiated, with a goal to provide 12C2+ beam. As a practical matter, it's been an OLIS Maintenance Day, at least for the morning. Controls installed a cable to provide remote reset capability for the OLIS Enable interlock panel. However, it did not perform as expected first time, so Controls has elected to pursue this another time. Meanwhile, the remote cable is at the rear of the OLIS Enable panel, ready to be connected next time.

This morning, Keerthi started the Supernanogan, and established (evidence of) initial 12C2+ and 74Gen+ beams from it. Maintenance concluded around noon, and beam development resumed. Goals: Find clear 74Ge and 12C2+ peaks.

  313   Wed Jul 14 09:23:19 2010 Damien Gallop  12C2+ for TIGRESS

OLIS is set up for 12C2+ delivery, with about 13enA on FC6 from the Supernanogan source presently. Beam was reasonably stable overnight, and should condition out better over time as well. Initial tuning into ISAC-I is planned to begin this morning.

  314   Fri Jul 16 10:22:35 2010 Damien Gallop  12C2+ for TIGRESS

Tuning to TIGRESS is continuing. There is a full expectation that they will take RIB over the weekend.

As it stands, the beam schedule shows switchover from TIGRESS to TITAN on Sunday evening. For a couple of reasons, it would make sense to move that time into Monday or so.

  315   Mon Jul 19 10:56:53 2010 Damien Gallop  12C2+ for TIGRESS

Beam from the Supernanogan remains on standby for TIGRESS pilot beam. There were a couple of source trips over the weekend, at least one a consequence of a power bump that took out a few other things too.

We have had a couple of pending work permits in the queue for a while. One is for germanium beam development, and one is for OLIS leak checking. The benefit of carrying out this work is assured delivery of 74Ge for the upcoming TITAN run, rescheduled to begin Wednesday. Note that if a leak is found and repaired on the Supernanogan side, there will be a minimum of three days pumping required before sufficient vacuum will be achieved to generate multi-charge ions.

316   Tue Jul 20 09:38:45 2010 Damien Gallop  OLIS Maintenance

Our work permit to leakcheck the Supernanogan and IOS was signed this morning. The source is off presently, and work is underway. The 12C2+ beam was not used overnight.

  317   Thu Jul 22 09:25:21 2010 Damien Gallop  74Ge1+ to TITAN

The Supernanogan is producing 74Ge using the heater source, a first for the Supernanogan. Development done over the last couple of days and completed yesterday. Tuning using mass 76 (76Ge or 76Se?) was done last night. Energy is set at 12.24kV, same as previous 12C2+ run. Beam is being used as TITAN pilot beam for their 74Kr run.

  318   Fri Jul 23 13:00:04 2010 Damien Gallop  74Ge1+ to TITAN

Beam remained on FC6 overnight. Beam was used for a tune check this morning. At noon today beam was switched to 4He.

Later... Outcome of 4He development with Supernanogan: beam comes with other isotopes. e.g. 12C3+ and 16O4+. Verdict: 4He1+ beam is better produced with the MWS.

Later... By request, set up source for 74Ge beam again. ~30pA on FC6 by ~midnight.

  319   Mon Jul 26 09:41:46 2010 Damien Gallop  74Ge1+ to TITAN

Beam is sitting on FC6 presently. Good source operation over the weekend. Some pics to come. RIB delivery to TITAN ended at 08:30 this morning. OLIS is scheduled for a beam switch tomorrow morning.

Later... A power bump knocked us out cold again. It appears that the Safety Enable bit was lost.

320   Tue Jul 27 08:55:49 2010 Damien Gallop  OLIS Maintenance

Today we switch from 74Ge1+ to 4He1+, about as wide a switch as we've done at OLIS. We will use the MWS for the 4He.

Later... sources lit. First mass scan attached. Intensity is pretty low for now.

Later... MWS optimized better. Optimal He gas pressure is somewhere between zero and the leakthrough rate on the flow controller set at zero. Stripchart attached. ICR will play with source and beam as it is for now.

Later... ICR has found a few enA in there, and vested parties are happy with the beam.
