I have installed a new control computer at the M9 solenoid control panel |
Tue Nov 28 10:32:04 2006, Doug Preddy, Quench Recovery, recovering after looong power outage
|
The power has been out for about 24 hours. Recovering coldbox, solenoid and
beamline vacuum.PLC is down for the vacuum system. Started compressor and
am flowing warm helium through the soleniod to warm it up while the vacuum

Wed Nov 15 17:05:49 2006, Willy Andersson, Quench Recovery, powerleads cold, energizing solenoid
|
Powerlead temperatures have bottomed out, energizing solenoid to 300
amps, ramp rate 60. |

Wed Nov 15 11:09:28 2006, Doug Preddy, Quench Recovery, Compressor tripped off
|
Compressor tripped this morning at ~8:45. I restarted the compressor, but
turbine 1 would not spin up. I let it warm for an hour and it started. I
started flow to the solenoind in parallel cold return. |
Tue Nov 7 10:35:32 2006, Doug Preddy, Normal Running, Maintenance day
|
I ramped down the solenoid power suplly and shut off flow to the power
leads. I will allow them to warm up and (hopefully) recover the flow rates.
I am also regenerating the M9BCP@ cryopump. |
Fri Nov 3 12:09:51 2006, Doug Preddy, Normal Running, Fine tuning
|
The power lead temperatures have been climbing at a rate of ~ 0.02K very 8
hours. The negative lead started to show some rippling this morning. The
positive flow had dropped from >250mm to 240mm. I cycled CV142 and the

Leaving system cooling in // cold return mode, cooldown rates still good.
Had flow on to powerleads since re-starting cooling flow to solenoid.
Either I (when I return to work later this morning) or Doug will do the

02:30 this morning got page from operations.
Looked at system online, appears that there was a powerlead overtemp
that caused the quench. Compressor still running. After arriving to

Switched to series mode about 6 hours ago. Cooling continued including
power leads until LHe level at about 50% and powerleads appeared stable. |
