There was an external water leak in ITW during the last beam running time. The leak started after the shielding blocks transfer(May 22). It cause a constantly water level drop on S-tank(0.5 "/day average). Today , after the blocks are moved , the leak source has been found. Water seeped through a fitting on ITW dump circuit pressure gauge. The leak water slowly flow around the TM1 on the tank flange. most of them are dried out, but left some stain on dump module and tank flange. By closing the supply and return water valves on the ITW dump circuit, the leak is stopped now. We will fix this problem after the module is moved out and the radioactive field is low.  See attachments.

990   Thursday, July 09, 2015, 14:02 David WangConditioning StationDevelopmentTM1 TM1 is pumping down at CS

TM1 and CS  vacuum system are connected. All turbo-pumps are started. The new TP1S works fine also. The pumping down looks good so far. During the TM1 and CS roughing down time, Joe .M noticed a Rn-220 level surge up in TH . Then, the Rn220  level slowly dropped back. Anders suspected this Rn-220 surging is related to the TM1 roughing down at CS. We decided we will stop the pumps , vent the CS , and roughing  again tomorrow. During the same time Joe will monitor  Rn-220 level in TH to see if the surging is repeatable. We want to learn more on this TH Rn-220 issue.

The roughing pump was replaced with a more leak tight pump due to the discovery of Rn-220 migration while roughing on TM1 in TCS

  1065   Thursday, September 10, 2015, 08:55 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellRepairTM1 TM1 Window Leak Diag.

Vacuum leak check on the window line circuit of TM1 took place yesterday and again to confirm this morning. Both days the response to helium is in the area of a soldered reduction fitting at the top of the containment box above and to the shutter side of the extraction column (see attached picture). To verify this morning each joint in the system had a 1 second shot of helium and then timed for 1 minute to wait for a response. This area responded both times tested at about 40 seconds...no response at any of the other locations.

1068   Tuesday, September 15, 2015, 08:24 David WangSouth Hot-CellRepairTM1UCx 13Leak check on TM1 window circuit soldering stems in service cap.

I did a leak check on TM1 window circuit  2 soldering  stems in service cap.The round side panel was opened for the job. I sprayed helium on the stems for 10 seconds. The leak detector got a tiny response(from 0.0xE-9 atm.cc/sec to 2.0xE-9 atm.cc/sec). The test  repeated again. The second time, LD climbed  to 1.2xE-9atm.cc/sec. It looks like there is a very tiny leak on the stems soldering spots. But , this is not the same leak we found from SHC helium spray which LD climbed to 1.4xE-8atm.cc/sec with only one click helium spray by Chad.

Because of the high air flow at SHC when the round panel is removed, The result is not conclusive. The same test is done at silo without  airflow. We found a big leak on this soldering stems . See later e-log.

  1069   Tuesday, September 15, 2015, 11:06 chad fisherSouth Hot-CellRepairTM1 TM1 Window Gasket Replacement

Replaced the custom silver gaskets on the entrance window panel of TM1 this morning...this has eliminated an sign of leak at this joint, however there appears to still be a leak somewhere...a good distance from the vcr joints of the window as we are getting a drift response.

Chad sprayed helium to soldering stems in containment box which we suspected with leak last week. With 1second click  on helium, after 80 seconds waiting time , the LD started to show leak up to 3xe-9atm.cc/sec.

Chad sprayed helium close to service tray and vacuum chase. with 1second click on helium , after 30 seconds waiting time, the LD started to show leak up to 2Xe-8 atm.cc/sec.

After this test, we knew the leak is somewhere in service tray or service cap, but not the soldering stems in containment box we suspected before. The further investigation is needed.

1182   Tuesday, March 29, 2016, 08:38 David WangConditioning StationStandard OperationTM1 TM1 water lines helium pressure check at TCS

TM1 water lines helium pressure check at TCS is done. 70 psi helium was applied to water circuits. Leak detector base leak rate 0.0 x E-9 atm.cc/sec, base pressure 0.0 x E-4 torr. The result shows as below:

Ta+   0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec 3minutes stabilizing
Ta-  0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec 3minutes stabilizing
Tube-  0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec 3minutes stabilizing
Tube+  0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec 3minutes stabilizing
MSP   0.0 X E-9 atm.cc/sec 3minutes stabilizing
EE   0.0X E-9 atm.cc/sec 3minutes stabilizing
HS  not tested without caps.
Window  E-5 range, leak on stem as we knew before.  10seconds to E-5

The results is good so far as we know the window line is leak on stem in service cap. The HS will be tested later with target on.

The service cap air to vacuum seals also have been checked. The PNG1 panel and side round panel close to shutter are leak. The o-rings on them need to be replaced.

On March 30th -2016, I doubled checked the air to vacuum seal on the TM1 service cap. The side round panel is leak free actually. The PNG1 panel is leak at the bottom side. Confirmed.

On march 31th-2016, The o-ring(1-1/ 2275) on TM1 PNG1 side panel has been replaced today. The o-ring slot and mating surfaces are cleaned, and new  o-ring is installed. The panel is put back to TM1 and all bolts are tightened.
