Laura Lambert | | | | Maintenance | Noise levels checked - ear protection not required. | Tuesday, November 07, 2017, 11:58
Noise levels were checked with monitor by Terry.
Max readings in lab reached ~83dB but sat between 70-78dB in most areas.
This is under limit for requirement to wear ear protection [85dB].
To reach limit - noise levels would need to increase drastically.
Conclusion: ear protection not required in lab.
Recommended if working in there for long periods of time for personal preference, but not a requirement.

Luca Egoriti | Ta | | | In progress | IPF release tests | Wednesday, November 24, 2021, 10:38
A first, short "FullTa1" target was loaded into the evap1. It consists of a short container (10 cm) with lateral thickness of ~0.2mm. The ends of the target connect with the TGHT terminals through two copper adapters.
After pumpdown down to ~4E-5 T, the TGHT was ramped gradually to 200 A in the next ~5 mins, leaving the target at 200 A for about 10 mins. Then, the current was increased fastly to 450 A in about 30 seconds, and was left at 450 A for a minute.
Note: the one minute at 450 A started when the TGHT voltage drop across stabilized, considered a sign of temperature homogeneity across the target container
Wednesday, November 24, 2021, 14:34
The second short container "FullTa2" target has been loaded and heated, following the same procedure as above. In this case, the initial pumpdown went to a lower pressure (1.5E-5 T instead of ~4E-5 T) resulting in lower pressure throughout the whole procedure

Marla Cervantes | | | | | IGP1 patch | Thursday, March 31, 2021, 14:42
EVAP1's TGHT has been tripping even when the pressure is below the tripping limits. The temperature of the turbo pump and the TGHT's power supply were monitored discarding the possibility of tripping due to the overheating of these pieces of equipment.
Gelo has been monitoring the IGP1 during carbothermal reductions to pinpoint the tripping issue, below is Gelo description to the issue and the patch he implemented to fix it.
"IGP loses its STATON (On status) if the value from the device is not within the valid voltage window (0.7 to 10 V). IEVAP:IGP1 for some reason goes to 0V for a few seconds then goes back up to where it left off.
Prior to the latest software updated, I added a 2 second delay in the code so that any invalid signal <=2s will be ignored.
Here is the data that you sent me specifically looking at when it tripped. I also attached the data that you sent me. << File: 310321-P2N-3-CR (1).txt >>

TGHT Voltage and TGHT current are both read from the same PLC module, which tells me that the PLC module is not likely the issue since we were still reading other signals when IGP was reading 0.
For the new update, I adjusted the delay to 5 seconds since the signal drop seemed like it was about 2s and was enough to lose the IGP STATON bit which tripped TGHT.
The delay only applies for the STATON status which can also be described as reading OK status in this case. Any other trip will be instantaneous and work as normal.
STATON is “ANDed” with other trips. i.e. IEVAPIGP_LESS10MTORR = IEVAPIGP1_RDVAC < 10mTorr AND IEVAPIGP1_STATON."

Marla Cervantes | | 43630-6 | | Done | Graphite insert test 4 | Wednesday, March 27, 2019, 08:50
A graphite insert was set into a tantalum tube in the evaporator 2 for 3 days
The objective of the test was to determine the current and voltage required to reach 2000 C
Current 424.2 A, voltage 7.17 V, P = 3 kW
details can be find here https://elog.triumf.ca/TIS/Evaporator_2/433
The test will continue for 2 weeks in the EVAP1.
Good vacuum 5e-4 Torr
Bad vacuum 1.00e-4
Pressure IGP1 = 1.55e-6 Torr
The autoramp was set to 420 A, at 1 A/min,
Monday, April 01, 2019, 07:57
TGHT = 4.68 V, 424.32 A
IGP1 = 9.61e-7 Torr
Autoramop is set to -1 A/min to 0 A
Monday, April 01, 2019, 11:19
IGP1=5.43e-7 Torr
At TGHT = 223 A and 2.1 V the autoramp was increased to -2 A/min
Monday, April 01, 2019, 11:20
Sudden and unexpected pressure increment to 1.4e-5 Torr, might be a glitch.
Monday, April 01, 2019, 13:10
IGP1 = 4.34e-7Torr
The autoramp was stopped at TGHT = 17.28 A, 0.0625 V,
and it was lower down to 0 A manually
Results: The tantalum tube deformed in the contact points with the graphite insert |

Tantalum foil caps were added to a graphite insert (see picture caps)
The insert was set in a tantalum tube previously coated and wrapped with 3 Ta sheets.
The system was installed in the EVAP1, and it will be heated for a week at 2000 C.
Currently pumping down.
Thursday, April 11, 2019, 13:26
IGP1 = 9.9e-7 Torr
The current is tapped to 40 A
After 1hr the autoramp is set to 1 A/min to TGHT 500 A
The TGHT current remained at 500 A for week
until at April 18 at ~4:30 pm
a localized power outage tripped the EVAP1.
The EVAP1 was ventd with air and the tantalum tube was removed
The tantalum tube did not break. |

Luca Egoriti | Ta | | LP-SIS | In progress | Full target release test 2 | Friday, November 05, 2021, 13:23
Full target loaded with ~500 non-active foils plus 4 active foils.
Initial pressure when heating: 1.6E-5 T
Manually went to:
TGHT=125 A
TBHT=50 A
with increments of 5 A each. Pressure has little spikes but mostly unchanged (going down, actually).
Stayed at those values for 2 min
Friday, November 05, 2021, 13:37
Manually went to
TGHT=180 A
TBHT=80 A
maximum pressure 6.6e-5 Torr
Friday, November 05, 2021, 13:43
IGP1 = 2.45e-5 Torr
We are aiming at going to TGHT=580 A and TBHT=230 A in increments of 50 A each and leave it there for a total of 5 minutes after nominal parameters are reached
Friday, November 05, 2021, 13:55
IGP1 = 1.7e-5 Torr
Heating done, we stayed at 530A for a bit long (~15 sec) during the heating so the total heat time at 580A was interrupted at 4 mins 50 seconds instead of 5 mins. All good, max pressure during the heating was 0.013 T. |
