EPICS was down and wiped out all the strip tools, but Evap stayed on. Data archivers showed the system was down at around mid-night on July 10 - no data was archived for 12 hours.
TGHT has stayed at 520A (max) for at least 4 hours since I started the Evap EPICS back.
Vacuum is currently at 7.7e-6 Torr.
The carbonization process is complete.
Auto-cool down in process - at 1A/min.

Marla Cervantes | Empty | P2N-02 | | Done | P2N test#2 | The assembly consists of two tantalum foils, 0.001" thick, which are radially crimped to form a cylindrical surface. The outside support are two P2N conditioning legs, and the inside supports are tantalum tapered rings. The solidworks geometry for this test is ITD0811 in PDM.
The P2N is attached to EVAP1 with copper legs and copper shims. A current ramp up to 600 A on the target wrapped with heat shields is attempted to benchmark the current/voltage increase in a bare target, so that we have reference values for future rampings with graphite and target material inside.
The heat shields consist on two layers of Ta sheets on the body of the P2N secured with Ta-wire and two layers of Ta sheets on one side of the P2N.

A P2N container with heat shields, and without graphite container was installed in the EVAP1
Chamber is currently being evacuated.
Wednesday, January 29, 2020, 10:12
Pressure IGP1=1.87e-6 Torr
Final desired current TGHT = 600 A
Manually tapped to 40 A.
Voltage increased accordingly in an stable way.
Wednesday, January 29, 2020, 10:33
Autoramp is set to 3/30s to 300 A
The voltage and vacuum were stable so the autoramp was kept at 4/30s and the final current was set to 600 A
Accidentally went up to 600 A (1.98 V)!
When updating autoramp to 600 A, did not realize that procedure status was Active.
NOTE: If the procedure status is "active" the heater autoramp, does not "ramp" the current input in "final value", it will go in one step to that current.
The current was manually ramp down to 300 A
TGHT=299.52A, 0.89 V
Wednesday, January 29, 2020, 13:25
After approximately 2 hours conditions IGP1=1.6e-6Torr, TGHT =300 A, 1V.
The current ramp was started again: 4A/30s to final value of 600 A
Wednesday, January 29, 2020, 14:07
After 15 min, TGHT=599.424A, and 1.983 V (unstable) (see figure "P2N-test2_final voltage")
The current was ramp down to 0 A at -5A/20s
EVAP1 was vented with aair and the container was removed,
the copper shims and legs did not present signs of damage
the body's tantalum sheet had wrinkles inside,
the tantalum foils unfasten a bit, but were adjusted. |

Yesterday, a second graphite cartridge was installed in EVAP1, it consists of the old, 3-body cartridge design, and was sanded on the outside to be able to fit a P2N container.
First I tried ramping manually, but the heating tripped because pressure was too high.
Then the parameters were set as previously, but it tripped again
IGP1= 2e-5 Torr
Good vacuum 8e-2 Torr
Bad vacuum 5e-1 Torr
Autoramp set to 1A/10s to 500A
Autoramped up to 700A @ 1A/10s.
Wednesday, May 04, 2022, 11:40
Another ramping trial, with different heating rate:
IGP1= 3e-5 Torr
Good vacuum 8e-2 Torr
Bad vacuum 5e-1 Torr
Autoramp set to 1A/20s to 700A
Autoramped up to 700A @ 1A/20s.
Wednesday, May 04, 2022, 15:50
IGP1= 3e-2 Torr
Good vacuum 8e-2 Torr
Bad vacuum 5e-1 Torr
Autoramp set to 1A/20s to 730A
Autoramped up to 720A @ 1A/20s.
Pressure dropping while current is increasing at autoramp rate.
Wednesday, May 04, 2022, 16:10
From 730A, once the pressure went down to ~1E-3T, the current was suddenly raised to 750A and 770A to see if significant pressure increase was noticed, but small bumps reaching 1.5E-3T were not considered a sign of further reduction.
The rampdown started from a pressure ~1E-3T, from 770A to zero with rate 2A/10s

John Wong | SiC | 38295-8 | HP-FEBIAD | Problems | Organics burnoff & Sintering | Wed May 18 13:12:24 2011: Target is wrapped with 3 Ta-heat shields and is installed in the evaporator which is being pumped down.
Wed May 18 23:11:42 2011: TGHT was raised to 40A and held for about 6 hours; Vac gradually came down to 2.1e-6 Torr. TGHT increased to 90A and pressure is going up, currently vac @ 2.9 e-5 Torr. Auto heating will begin soon at 0.5A/min --> 820A.
Thu May 19 10:23:34 2011: TGHT at 92A/0.32V, vac @ 4.47 e-5 torr. (See Attachment#1: heating_past_12hrs)
Tue May 24 10:22:59 2011: TGHT reached to max currrent 820A and held for over the long weekend. The cooling process began at 15:00 yesterday. Evaporator is vented. P/S off.
Mon May 30 17:03:01 2011
The end caps of the target after the sintering process were found damage; the caps were vaporized just like the previous SiC target w.o#38481-8. (See attachments#2: SiC000-003). After some investigation, it looks like some reaction had occurred when the target heater was ramped up beyond 550A. (See Attachment#3: SiC_striptool).
The yellow solid will be analyzed using EDX/SEM. More details will be posted later....
Wednesday, September 14, 2011, 10:16
SEM/EDX were done. See attachment #9 for the EDX results.
The formation of the yellow solid is the condensation of silicon. As seen on the EDX results, the solid is mainly Si, C and some trace of Al (could be from the loading rod).
The new D-end cap has be used to allow a better out-gassing.
