We spent most of the day looking at OLIS to find out why the "Ionizer Coil" keeps breaking down, we found the following:
1. The FAN to cool R5 (ref: ISK4583D rev.7) a 25 Ohm 200W Resistor (2x50 ohm/100W ea.) was not ON, the nylon insulator (also the plastic tube across to the HV Terminal) was burnt and not holding the R5 resistor properly, I replaced the plastic insulator with a ceramic insulator.
Note that if the PE electrode is open it will charge up to the beam energy and start sparking. Also I used a red heatshrink tubing to prevent the BNC connector (it sits at Common) to touch the Cu pipe for the Plasma electrode water cooling.

3. Drawing for EE:SS BOP (resistors & spark gap): ISK4584D rev. 1

I updated 2 drawings that show the OLIS skimmers.
A. ISK4363D for the OLIS Skimmers BOP connections, we have 7 skimmers cables (6 wires per cable) going in and 16 skimmers channel going out to Controls.
B. ISK4365D that shows the skimmers cables location along the OLIS beamline.

OLIS Shutdown has been in progress for a week. IOS is vented, was swiped clean and opened. DB3 was craned out, a precision job. Note to whover reinstalls this box: Request Lu Sun to do it. He knows exactly how to tension the ropes so that the seals are not at risk of damage. Upstream optics in DB1 were also removed in the standard three sections. No problem removing them. Photos and commentary to follow. Bellows downstream and ahead of separator were removed, and separator box liners were removed. They had shifted since being installed, probably during pumpdown. The level of beam implantation was minimal, so the consensus is to leave them out altogether. This was a test running period for them anyway. Straight-through end flange was removed for this job, then restored again. Likely it will come off later for alignment checks. Inspection of the Y-box optics from DB1 viewpoint shows them to be in pretty good condition. Slight discoloration observed on downstream insulators, but all elements hold HV very well, so we will leave them alone.
Rough short-term schedule: Pull Sgan cart and move to its dock. Work on source gas panel. Refurbish IOS:DB1/3 optics over the next week. Then refurbish the MWS and restore its original source body and 2mm apertures. |

Supernanogan cart removed from Faraday cage to dock today. Some beam safety tests on FC6 in progress presently. FC3 was already removed for replacement.
Optics Photos: Lots taken; selected ones here as time permits.
3-Way Switch (DSCN7285.jpg & DSCN7286.jpg) looks pretty good. There is some discoloration on a downstream insulator, but far from worrisome. The elements hold HV just fine.
Q1 (DSCN7312.jpg& DSCN7316.jpg) looks good too. Insulators survived well. Note the interesting halo pattern on the backside of the downstream skimmer plate.
Q2 (DSCN7317.jpg) is in good condition with some plating on insulators.
Q3 (DSCN7330.jpg & DSCN7350.jpg) is complex. Some marked plating has occurred on a few of the insulators from the backside. There is an interesting deposit of metallic material, probably magnesium, on the backside of the downstream skimmer, right behind the quads. A similar depositing is also visible in last year's Shutdown photos. The water-cooled collimator in front of the quads has significant beam etching, which could have been present some time ago (cf. a year ago, DSCN6876.jpg). |

Preparations for rewiring the DB1/3 optics have begun. Sgan gas manifold work is in progress. Note: IOS:MP1 is scheduled for refit service shortly. We received major rebuild kits a few days ago, one to replace the kit used when the previous MP1 failed last fall. It is not likely this pump requires it; only the standard seal kit. |

Partial disassembly of DB1 optics today. Shielding of insulators is definitely working and indicated for unshielded insulators. Discussion of possibilities in progress. Wiring looks good, but one Kapton wire snapped at the connector upon disassembly (no force required). |

We prepared stuff last night. This morning we vented IOS to argon, then swiped. Clean. Lu and Ajit craned out DB3 for us. Nice job, as usual. We will remove it and its neighbors to the ISIS Lab for refurbishing. OLIS Shutdown is scheduled to go until March 10th. |

|
The OLIS 1 week shutdown has been completed (WP 2015-04-13-1).
General-
Y-Box insulators were inspected and look good. Beamline optics were inspected.
MWS-
The La disk was removed. Source housing was cleaned and re-asssembled with a beaker installed.
MCIS-
The cart was installed in the HV cage. Kr gas pack was installed on the cart and the transfer tube was opened up to MCIS vacuum.
SIS-
Source PE and EE assembly was removed and opened up for inspection. A new source was assembled (1/4 Ta tube and 0.040 Ta Oven & Ionizer wires) and installed. Lithium Nitrate Anhydrous (ALFA #13405 TR#205938) was inserted in the oven.

Two weeks of OLIS Shutdown have begun. The plan is to complete refurbishing this week and pump next week, with 36Ar+6 beam ready at the end of it. IOS is vented and open. The Supernanogan cart is out, vented and open. Plasma chamber cleaning and refurbishing in situ are in progress. The IOS upstream optics DB1-3 have been removed for refurbishing on the bench.
Later... Supernanogan MRO completed and closed. Pumping underway by ~15:30. Leakup curve appended below. |

MCIS pumped well overnight. Source development imminent.
Later... possible IOS intervention. Spin down turbos in anticipation... Meanwhile, MCIS pressure was at 7.8e-8 Tott at the start, and dropped to 7.4e-8 Torr immediately upon closure of MCIS:IV1. Note that IOS:IV0 remains open with interlocks bypassed. |

MCIS continues to pump well. IOS DB assembly planned for today.
Later... DB assembly complete and IOS under vacuum. Present pressure: 1e-6 Torr at ~18:00. All optics hold voltage. |

IOS pumped well over the weekend. Present pressure is 1.5e-7. MCIS pumps off for setup.
Later... Supernanogan is online with better than 250enA of 36Ar7+ on FC6 presently ~17:00. Note: MCIS:TP3 is off by intention for this run. |

Supernanogan is online with 36Ar+7 on FC6 overnight. Looks good. Note: The source gas arrangement (enriched 36Ar) utilizes double buffer canisters and calibrated leaks, and requires MCIS:TP3 off.
Controls is preparing to perform an IOSIOS reboot for the sake of new code for ILT:RPM8 or something like that. |
