Entry  Tuesday, June 21, 2022, 15:34, Matthew Gareau, SiC#42, SiC#43, , , TM2, , , Problems/Solutions, Multipin guide pin issues

While removing the SiC#42 it became apparent that the multipin guide pin had become loose again and was not allowing the target to dismount from the module.

The multipin shoulder bolts were removed and then the multipin was able to be pried off.

However the NHC manipulator were not able to reach the guide pin to remove it, which would be required before the SiC#43 could be installed.

The target module was then moved to the SHC where the guide pin could be removed and the installation of SiC#43 took place, along with the transfer of the parasitic attachment onto the SiC#43.

This problem seems to suggest that the multipin could use some redesign to ensure smoother target exchanges.

The original HS 45253-23 Had to be replaced due to a leak being discovered during a leak check. Reassembled in 45235-10

However post-TS https://elog.triumf.ca/TIS/Test-Stand/1014 & https://elog.triumf.ca/TIS/Test-Stand/1015, it was discovered there was electrical shorts, components stuck together, including the retainer to the ovens tube. This had to be repaired & rebuilt.

Repairs included opening ITD0542 inner diameter to 11/16"

increasing the slot gap on the HS for the target leg to bottom insulator clearance

Source Cup inner ID opened 0.030" as the short was found to be the tube touching the Cu wall.

Top & bottom insulators were also replaced pre-TS. Checked post TS. They held 540 OL & 1049 OL respectively afterwards.

Run in TS: https://elog.triumf.ca/TIS/Test-Stand/1018

Ta#37-LP-SIS (w.o#38634-5)

Filled with 400 Ta foils (25/pk), 4.0 cm in length.  Total mass + Ta wire = 42.32g.  The heat shield was assembled and tested, and the standard salts were added.  Target was installed in the test stand on Jun 1, 2011.

Fri Jun 17 09:19:46 2011: The following salts have been added: Li, Na, Rb @ 10uL, K @ 5uL, Cs @ 15uL, and Be @ 10uL.

Wednesday, July 06, 2011, 14:08:  TM1 is still under repairing.  It was tested at the test-stand. Target is on the shelve and ready to be used.

Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 15:58:  Salt added before going into the hotcell: Li,Na,Rb,K,Cs.  Target is ready to be used for TM1 test.

Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 10:48:  It was found that the extraction electrode had some arc marking on it (see attachment: EE).  Investigating...

Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 12:51: After further investigation on the extraction electrode,  we found some black and blue(or green) deposit on the outside surface and inside of the EE.  This deposit is most likely copper oxide, which formed during the HV test.  The EE was removed, and wiped clean with methanol.  (see attachment: EE_CuO).  This target will be used in TM1.

Friday, August 26, 2011, 09:48:  As per Friday Aug 26 TIS meeting, bNMR is very satisfied with the beam; the count rate is very stable.

Target wrapped with 3 Ta-heat shields

Target length = 11.2cm

Total UC2/C foils = 245 discs

Total U/cm2 = 15.27g

Standard salts = 10uL Na, 10uL Li

Tuesday, August 09, 2011, 14:27:

Target came out from the glovebox and transported to the cold lab for assembly.  During the assembly, one of the screw-heads for the heat-shield broke (see attachment#1: broken_screwhead).

The target was leak checked and fine.

Target is going back to the glovebox to be kept under Ar until RH is ready (see attachment #2: UCx#2).

 Tuesday, October 04, 2011, 10:21

UCx#2 run was finished last week.

Target was moved from ITW to south hot cell, and stored in a bucket under argon feed.

Friday, September 30, 2011, 14:10

After the test-stand, 10uL of Na and Li were added yesterday.

Target is now ready, and will be moved into the hotcell next week.

Wednesday, November 16, 2011, 15:51

After the target was finished and transferred into the hotcell, it was found that the target broke apart from the center block.  This might have happened during the end of the target cooldown. See link for more details:
