Carla Babcock | | | Testing of spare FUG bias supply |
Tomislav and John Chow tested the spare bias supply located in the rack of the electrical services room. This is a FUG HCN 1400 M-60000, serial 11590-01-01, PO TR131986 but when it was installed online we found it could not go above about 40kV. It was replaced but not tested until now. Tomislav says:
"We started testing the FuG this morning, in manual mode it is possible to reach 60 kV, 59.75 according to the display and with the load we have 1.6 mA. From the DC HV point of view, at least in manual mode no problem.
When we looked at the HV through a 1000:1 voltage divider in the oscilloscope there is a situation, the coupling in graphs 4 and 5, attached, is AC, and it was taken at 55 kV. The 200 mV scale represents 200 V because of the divider. There is a strong noise of 200 Vpp at 55 kV, it can be interpreted as ripple of 0.36%, we usually ask in FuGs 10-5 or 0.001%. Also there are random peaks of 1 V in the divider (1000V in the output) that indicate a possible failure of the PWM circuit that generates the high voltage.
Because of issues like these Friedhelm replaced the old ITW power supply, these instabilities caused problems in the experiments, so I am not sure if it is necessary to continue testing this PS. We can only do a remote test that I do not expect to give different results from what we have now, maybe we will find an issue and it does not go beyond 40 kV, and we can check long term stability, the DC value should remain very constant for at least 8 hrs." |

Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 11:31
Hi All,
Hope you all find the TIS/RH elog useful :) There are a few things I want to share with you.
Did you know that you can make comments to the existing entries by using the "REPLY" function, so you can keep all the related entries in the same subjects? Yap! By doing that, we all keep the elogs organized :)
If you are using shared computers, please remember to log out when you finish with the elog. I suggest you to NOT check the "Keep me logged in..." box when you sign in.
If you have any questions/comments please feel free to let me know.
TIS/RH admin,
John Wong

John Wong | Under Process | | TIS New Users |
Hi All,
As requested by Pierrer Bricault, I have added the following users to join the Targets and Ion Source (TIS) elog:
Grant Minor, Bevan Moss, Don Jackson, Chad Fisher, Travis Cave, David Wang, Tom Lyth, Ron Kuramoto, Maico Dalla Valla, Ron Muller.
Here is the link: https://elog.triumf.ca/TIS/
Your login names and temporary passwords are your first and last name (no spacing & all low cases, eg. Maico's user and password: maicodallavalla). Once you're logged in, please change your password.
I have created a few more elogs for the Remote Handling group: RH-Cyclotron, RH-Conditioning Station, RH-Yield Station. All new elogs entries come with the default attributes, "TYPE" and "Category". These attributes and the dropdown options can be added and changed. See "Evaporator_1" logbook how I have created 4 attributes: Target, Number, Source, Status. There are also many other functions, see the attachment for a few examples. Try using the elog; let me know how you would like to change it to work better for you and the group, and I'll do my best.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
TIS-Elog Administrator,
John Wong |

Tuesday, July 19, 2011, 16:22: The planetary ball mill was in the coldlab, and now it has moved to the hot lab for the purpose of processing UCx targets. The ball mill is installed in front of the fumehood and near by the alpha filters. The legs are secured in the metal rings so the machine will not move away during milling. (see attachment). |
