At 5:00 this morning, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Mike passed from this life to his eternal reward. He has left us a great legacy. May he rest in peace.

Development and the quest for gold continue.

Later... Mass scans in region of 197Au33 A/q=5.97, with graph of all theoretically possible charge states in the same A/q region. The thing to note in that last graph is how clean is the region (just left of A/q=6) where 197Au33 is predicted.

Later... Panning for gold ended prematurely due to a decision to end. The reason cited was DSB:MB14.

Development continues in the search for gold. A=197 Present A/q=5.94, which suggests 197Au+33. It could also be a tail of 12C+2. We'll see.

Source development in preparation for Au beam in progress.

Entry  Tue Dec 14 09:15:58 2010, Damien Gallop, , , MCIS Development

Beam development started yesterday. Looks like the HERACLES run, which started Thursday, ended yesterday morning.

Development should continue today. Looks like Supernanogan went through a plasma mode change overnight and settled into a new mode.

The previous 12C2+ development run from the Supernanogan ended Friday morning. Starting Friday afternoon, the Supernanogan was prepared for an upcoming SEBT development using krypton beams. The source was ready overnight. There were some teething pains over the weekend. An A/q=5.71 beam is sitting on FC6 presently. The beam schedule shows an experiment change on Thursday morning.

Later... Some notes about krypton.

Naturally occurring isotopes:
Kr-78   ( 0.35% , 2.0E+21 ) Kr-80   ( 2.25% ) Kr-82   ( 11.6% ) Kr-83   ( 11.5% ) Kr-84   ( 57.0% ) Kr-86   ( 17.3% )

Some A/q values:

  • 40/7 = 5.7143
  • 80/14 = 5.7143
  • 82/14 = 5.8571
  • 82/15 = 5.4667
  • 83/15 = 5.5333
  • 84/15 = 5.6
  • 86/15 = 5.7333

Keerthi's mass scans from Saturday:

  1. Background scan
  2. Krypton scan (note multi-peaks in A/q = 5.7 to 5.75 range)
  3. FC6 at A/q=7.3333

Last moments of beam development for SEBT commissioning. Attached is an FC6 plot and the present optics and 1mm slits. Decision was to not do a vertical emittance scan at this time, but proceed with 15Kr development, up next. Before we shut off, one last emittance scan coming up.

Later... Emittance scan with 2.5mm slits (default position setting used) in progress... Done. 101203_1017ILTEMIT.txt. Looks a little boxy... Both raw and cleaned-up versions attached.

Next: Emittance scan with 5mm slits... Done. 101203_1039ILTEMIT.txt. Looks a little more boxy... Both raw and cleaned-up versions attached.

Next: Repeat scan with original 1mm slits and scanner settings... Done. 101203_1104ILTEMIT.txt. It reproduced. Both raw and cleaned-up versions plus scanner panel attached.

Next: Quick look at 16O beams before shutting off...
