Tried to see the background before 33S installation. Found few problems: MCIS:YCB1 does not hold more than 58V.

Very difficult to transport the beam without YCB1. Need to find a solution. Open and fix it is not an option even though we have a ready spare. It will take two weeks to get the vacuum back.

Outgoing TIGRESS experiment was the occasion for another ISAC milestone, 8MeV/u through the SCC for the first time just around midnight last Friday, May 21st. This also represented the first 8MeV/u beam to an experiment. And we can proudly say that OLIS beam was used. TIGRESS run ended at 08:30 as scheduled. Attached is a trar graph of beam on FC6, snapped periodically throughout the run. As before, you can see a small daily variation likely related to temperature of NA-LCW. There were reports of HPL tests this past Thursday and Friday. Evidently no effect over here.

Finally got something going. YCB1 short to the ground. YCB common plate connected to YCB1 power supply. We were lucky. Polarity was right. Ran the source with no 33S.
Saved file as “backgroundNo33S.dat” No optics set yet. SO2 connected not open yet. 33S 17% is in the oven, but not heated yet.

PE set point is ok but read back is half of the real value.

IOS:EE found damaged. It has been replaced with IOS:SSEE-Michael B.

2mm diameter Ti was installed to set the optics. Later 0.0005 in thick foil will be installed for real efficiency studies.

Klixon at the OLIS bemding magnet is not funtioning properly.

Small peice of titanium wire is installed and running aroung 100pA of Ti+7 at FC6.

OSAC are OPs taking data.

Small piece of titanium foil 0.0005" thick is installed and running around 100pA of Ti+7 at FC6.

IOS:SSW failed unexpectedly. No reason found. Came back on easily.

High Voltage cage is on at ~17:43pm

Interlock cleard and HV (10kV) is on at 17:53pm

Supernanogan is tested for Al+6 beam production.
A 8nA of mass 4.5 is seen. Background pressure is not good enough to
produce more Al+6. Attempt to increase Al beam current with higher sputtering
voltages resulted in fast destruction of the Al sample.
Decided to move to the microwave ion source.
Clean all the Mg and installed Al liners and the Al PE electrode.

Source is now pumping down. Damien, Please start the source as soon as you arive. Try to keep PE current below 500mA. Optimum is ~200mA

Source started at 800W of microwave power and 2cc/min neon gas easily. New magnetron produces more power than the old one.

We should try to keep MW power under 500W during running and use only 800W for ignition.  EE left off for the night.

Removed titanium from the back plate and clean the source.

But left the PE titanium insert since Bob and Marco badly want the 12C++ beam from the source fast.

Background 12C++ was only 400pA so installed a small canister with CO in it with bellow atm. pressure.

Now source is running with ~2nA current.
