Keerthi found and fixed a couple more vacuum leaks last night. Present vacuum at IOS:IG1 = 4.4e-7 Torr. Electrical and water services installation in
progress right now.
Later... Most of the services installed. Water tested: mostly OK, but persistent leaks on fiddly source body seals. Let Keerthi adjust these tomorrow. |

4He2+ "alpha" CUSP source under vacuum: IOS:IG1=7.3e-7 Torr. Electrical installations today.
I3 development source also at vacuum: 2.7e-6 Torr, which is better than when we started. TP gauge: 1.0e-7 Torr.
Later... Begin leak checking. Note: IOS:BP1 needs servicing. Its base pressure is ~30mT. |

Today we installed the CUSP "alpha" source on the MWS port at OLIS. It is vacuum-tight. Looking good. Also we installed remaining components
on the prototype I3 source yesterday and pumped overnight. Vacuum there is good too. Next week is looking like a marathon source week. I also understand
that a new target for ISAC tested well at the ISAC Test Stand today. A hat trick. |

Pumps were switched off last night. IOS was vented to Ar and swiped clean this morning. MCIS ready for disembarking from F-cage. IOS:IV0 defeated so
that we could vent the IM with IOS as one volume.
Later... Supernanogan cart is parked at its service dock. TP1 & 2 are up. |
Wed Nov 18 23:46:14 2009, Keerthi Jayamanna, , , OLIS development started
|
All turbos in the OLIS and MCIS are off. No controls for the MCIS. Pumps switched of by pulling the CG cable.
All the gate valves are off. All bypass are removed |
Tue Nov 17 09:18:37 2009, Damien Gallop, , , 21Ne4+ to DRAGON for charge distribution studies
|
After their EOB with 17O3+ yesterday, DRAGON switched to 21Ne4+ running for charge distribution studies. Keerthi changed over the source gases for that
around 08:30 yesterday. Things went well. Beam intensity dropped off and leveled off overnight. I tweaked up the source just now. Current at H2:4 moved
from xe-10 to ~1.5enA. A stripchart is attached. Orange trace is H2:4, and green is COL0, which reflects total beam from the source. |

DRAGON declared EOB at around 08:00 today. Source and beam were switched to 21Ne4+ for calibration studies. |
Fri Nov 13 10:26:07 2009, Damien Gallop, , , 17O3+ beam to DRAGON continuing
|
Beam and energy changes continued over the weekend. The ICR reports that things are going swimmingly, and that the users are happy. Scaler counts are
up some 30% or so from Tuesday. All good. A source and line touch-up Wednesday (Remembrance Day) morning and a tuning effort following an energy change
during the day on Wednesday produced strong and stable beam running. |
Tue Nov 10 09:36:39 2009, Damien Gallop, , , 17O3+ beam to DRAGON continuing
|
Beam ran well overnight. Last evening Vacuum Group diagnosed and repaired a catastrophic leak in the ILT cross region. You can see in the attached plot
how venting that section caused elevated pressures in IOS, most likely due to the direction in which IOS:IV7 is installed. Most often it is the IOS section
that is vented, and the neighbouring sections remain at high vacuum. So this gate valve would be installed looking downstream so that venting on the upstream |

|
Beam delivery continued through the weekend. As noted on Saturday, current dropped precipitously due to source gas pressure. We have 2.3e-6eµA
this morning. |
Sat Nov 7 12:21:35 2009, Keerthi Jayamanna, , , 17O hand valve status
|
17O+3 at FC6 became 550nA.
17O hand valve found to be closed. Probable cause may be the cold weather.
After opening the valve beam came back. 2.6uA of 17+3 at FC6. |
Fri Nov 6 11:17:54 2009, Damien Gallop, , , 17O3+ setup to DRAGON
|
As noted, we handed over the beam to our users yesterday by noon. Setup to DRAGON is continuing. The report this morning that beam is great. Good. |
Thu Nov 5 09:45:03 2009, Damien Gallop, , , MCIS online with 17O3+ on FC6 overnight

Beam was quiet overnight. Keerthi touched up the tune this morning, and it is quieter yet and a little more of it too.
Later... Handover to Sophia occurred as scheduled. Save: 091105_1203.snapiosdragon
An IOSIOC reboot occurred sometime over the lunch hour. The usual suspects went down, plus the field stability correction power supply went to |
Wed Nov 4 09:46:07 2009, Damien Gallop, , , MCIS online with 17O3+ on FC6 for development 9x

Beam stayed up overnight nicely. Development today. RF scans in progress now.
Later... scanning done for the moment. Controls is looking at a PLC issue that has been on the books for a while. I have given the okay to turn
on and off MCIS:IG1 at will. |
Tue Nov 3 09:25:31 2009, Damien Gallop, , , MCIS online with 17O3+ on FC6 overnight

We completed 33S operation last night, and roughed in a setup for 17O. We had 17O3+ on FC6 overnight; chart attached. It grew nicely. Keerthi is working
with the beam now. |
Mon Nov 2 17:42:54 2009, Damien Gallop, , , MCIS online with 17O3+ on FC6
|
As noted earlier, we have opened the OLIS cage and set up the source gases for 17O operation. It will take a while for the SO2 to pump away and for the
17O2 to equalize within the source body. Meanwhile, we have restarted the source with a preliminary 17O3+ beam on FC6. Without a doubt this will be unstable
for a time, and the source may blink out also. |
Mon Nov 2 09:32:40 2009, Damien Gallop, , , MCIS on with 33S5+ on FC6 over the weekend
|
Beam came up nicely on Friday, and stayed up quuietly over the weekend. Note the absence of periodic spikes in the separator field readback since
the last IOC reboots.
Later... I have asked ICR to make us a nice emittance scan. (They are running beam at 8pi presently as well.) |
Fri Oct 30 09:44:49 2009, Damien Gallop, , , MCIS on with 33S5+ on FC6 overnight
|
Controls finished with IOSIOC work yesterday. ICR had restored most optics. I restarted the source last evening. As you can see below, the beam grew
nicely overnight. Sometime today I will ask ICR to reboot IOSIOC and see if everything stays up now.
One more thing. The chart shows the last couple of days' running. Prior to beam-off for IOSIOC, we observed periodic spikes of about 45m each in |

Yesterday there was an IOSIOC reboot for a purpose. It was an opportunity to demonstrate to Controls that IOSIOC reboots materially affect the IOS section.
Controls responded to an ICR fault report on it, and have not reported back to ICR so far. The source was off overnight and remains off now. I have informed
ICR that if nothing happens this morning, I will restart the source after lunch. |
